I’m gonna say something. It’s gonna be obvious but I’m gonna say it anyway. I fully clicked on this video bc I saw a dude that looks like you do, reviewing a book like Gardens of the Moon, and I went “no way, this is jarring”. Then I saw the name of your channel, and realized you are fully in on that aspect of the unexpected combination. I respect that. Liked, subbed, belled.

I think it’s okay for people new to fantasy or even reading fiction to start the series. I’d only read ASoIaF and Harry Potter before and loved the series from the first book. Maybe I wasn’t super familiar with conventions and tropes in the genre, so wasn’t expecting it to follow a specific narrative structure. I think that can trip some people up when starting the series.

I agree for those that already are in love with the genre but I feel like this could definitely throw some people off if it was their first

I just finished this book. I am in love. I love the characters, I love the world, I love the warrens, I love the intrigue... I love it. So much. And supposedly it gets better! "Because it's Kruppe it works". This is so true.

I finished GotM last week and just started Deadhouse Gates. I loved GotM so much. I found myself attached to different characters who ended up in opposition to other characters I felt attached to as well (like the bridgeburners). Erikson is an extremely talented writer, imo Your review was great too. I think, if you continue putting out content of this quality, you'll grow to become one of the larger "booktube" channels. Keep grinding

I'm glad you like the first book as that is where most people give up on the series because it is pretty confusing for the first time readers. In my opinion from here on out the series just gets better and better, at least in terms of writing there is a huge jump in Deadhousse Gates I'm sure you noticed as you said you're reading it. And if you are wondering how the series is structured: 1st book Gardens of the Moon (1st plot thread) 2nd book Deadhouse Gates (2nd plot thread) 3rd book Memories of Ice (sequel to Gardens of the Moon) 4th book Hose of chains (sequel to Deadhouse Gates) 5th book Midnight Tides (3rd plot thread) 6th book Bonehunter (sequel to House of Chains) 7th book Reaper's Gale (sequel to Bonehunters and Midnight Tides) 8th book Toll the Hounds (sequel to Memories of Ice) 9th book Dust of Dreamss (sequel to Reaper's Gale) 10th book The Crippled God (sequel to Dust of Dreams)

@@TheJackedNerd. The word you are looking for is convergence, lol. Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice take place at the same time and MOI follows the events of Gardens. Eventually there is a lot of crossover, but the first three books are mostly set up.

ok FINALLY finished this book and HOLY FUCK I loved it by the end. I actually loved the start and figuring how things worked and knowing what words to look out for, however mid way the book seemed a bit "weird" regarding Paran's character and how he is randomly in love with Tattersail and has an undying urge to kill lorn??? Anyways the last few chapters were truly epic and the epilouge left everyone in a very great place.

He was...changed a bit after. There's a conversation about that. SPOILER "Healing body And mind need to happen together. I'm not sure what he'll be like with the god just healing the body " or something to that extent...so he's a little off after coming back.

I recommend that if you are using your hands with your speech, it would probably be best if you do not use auto-focus- just try to get it to focus on where your face would be and then try to keep your head in that range. It doesn't really matter if your hands are in focus.

First book is kind of hard to read until you understand how the world and the warrant system work also you can never be sure who is good and who is bad :D Until the end of the series I was not sure if Tayschrenn is man or woman. Caladan Brood is Ascendant so you never can be sure how powerful is he or some of the other true the entire series.

Gardens of the Moon is both a mess and a masterpiece. His approach to "show, don't tell" makes the reader completely ignorant of the plots all the way through, since there is basically no exposition. However it does set up for major payoffs and this is masterful.

If you are interested in some interesting space sci-fi epic, I recommend you look into Neal Asher's Polity universe. Most sci-fi where A.I. has conquered the human race falls into the category of Evil A.I. overlords in a dystopia. The Polity is the space colonized human race managed by A.I. rulers and most of the human race have just integrated their multi-century long lives into this without problem. In fact there are many A.I. with bigger personalities than the humans they live with. Conflict often comes from "Black A.I." (rogue intelligences considered equivalent to human sociopaths) extraterrestrials including the infamous war against the Pradar Empire, the virulent technology left by the extinct "Jain" aliens and the cryptic bio-machine entity calling itself "Dragon". All the while the definition of a human life is stretched to many modified variations.

The most interesting concept in the whole series is the idea that A.I. created by humans view themselves as the next humans- the way toward true human evolution or its extension. A few are ready to leave the human race in the dust, and others see humans as the parent race they, as the children of humanity, must care for until humans inevitably find their way to joining them transcending physical mortality, and other A.I. purposely attached themselves to physical representation to be closer to humans. There's one story about a war project where the A.I. running a drone factory during the Prador War was given the personality of a mother in the hopes it would be more engaged in the drones she created but when the enemy backed her into a corner laying siege, the A I. went mad as she was producing drones just fast enough to watch them die in front of her trying to defend her. Needless to say, the reigning A.I. 'Earth Central Intelligence' wanted that incident buried.

@@TheJackedNerd. There are several series in the Polity universe. Most are trilogies. The Agent Cormac saga is longer though with 6 books. The books span more than a millennia with humans finding ways to live for several centuries. But if you wanted to read them chronologically start with the standalone book Prador Moon which details first contact with the Prador aliens and how the infamous Prador War that echoes consequences throughout the series begins. The next book is a prequel to the Agent Cormac saga called Shadow of the Scorpion and introduced the main character as a child being told by a giant scorpion-shaped war drone that its human comrade (Cormac's father) has died in the war.
