Hey cousin, very nice. I am curious though, why didn't you simply aneal the tangs or even the entire blade to drill holes? You did, of course, heat treat and temper after the fact.

I could have, but cutting them out is way easier and faster. The final grain of the steel should still be really good for a skinning knife. Might be different for a bigger knife like a chopper, but the steel is plenty hard now for a small blade. Should hold a great edge for a long time.
