It wasn't by choice, it was apart of getting bailed out. The government basically said if you want our money you need to drop Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saturn, and Hummer. Incidentally part of that clause was how they could no longer manufacture any of those vehicles in the future. However GM found a loophole by releasing the new Hummer as a GMC instead of a standalone. Odds are its only an EV to get brownie points and a pass by the gov.

Buick Riviera, Dodge Charger and Ford Galaxie all had them and they sold like hot cakes - and actually made a very nice looking front end, smooth and contiguous. Yet today, they are apparently scorned! There's no accounting for changing tastes.

@@cotynietling2567 you still have that chunky, hotwheels-esque body there. What was beautiful about the old trans-am, camaro, etc. was that they were proportional and tidy looking. The original camaro was stunning. Modern muscle cars are, in my opinion, a bit overbuilt, and feel too chubby, and, in the case of the new camaro, trying to be too edgy.

ELMO WILSON - I wouldn't plan on either of those brands coming back - GM got rid of them for financial reasons and that is the key factor in today's manufacturing considerations. If the car isn't selling, then there's no sense in making it! Half of GM's problems that lead to bankruptcy were they had too many brands and not enough buyers for them. I'll bet my hat, ass, saddle, and the barn you'll never see either of those brands again.
