The Phantom Firebird
A 79 Firebird Trans Am is chased down in 1988 and flees into a cornfield... Thirty years later the car still sits, covered in dust. When an unsuspecting ranch hand is sent down to recover an antique from the abandoned barn, he steps into something much bigger than he bargained for.

To all those who worked on this incredible short film: There was a guy I've known since the 1970s and he was a master story teller and a great side kick to have along when country car searching back throughout the 80s. You've captured his spirit in the art of American car lore, suspense and intrigue. Tragically, my friend who was beloved by many many people, died unexpectedly only a week ago. How your film, which I know he would have enjoyed immensely, mysteriously showed up on my YT screen...I'll just say, perhaps all Phantoms aren't too bad. Please, keep sharing your talents and most importantly...enjoy the ride while you're doing what you obviously love to do.

@@senserfilms this movie has potential and it could go a couple different routes too, it could take dark turn or something a little brighter and less evil spirit. And maybe you choose a less spiritual approach and it could have been an old-school lore to cover for a hot rodder and car remained hidden because of a tragic accident that accidentally killed someone. Just a couple ideas to throw around unless you have already got something but either way hope I could help look forward to watching. Maybe few people in town or county helped cover for the car or cars driver. And dumped other vehicle in another county. a spooky story was made up to cover for the street racing. I tend to like the less spiritual story line not because I'm anti religion just it seems more realistic and easier to make. But I do like the sound of a spirit that possess anyone who drives the car and you are indestructible when driving forcing the other person to drive extremely hard and wreck. And the car "forced" someone in a race in opponent car to lose control and wreck. People come from all around to race the mysterious car and driver no one could beat. It doesn't have to go totally evil and it could present a valuable lesson on patience and carefulness

This doesn't have the feel of a short story, rather the feel of a feature or a pilot for a series. The cinematography is stunning. The camera angles for each shot work so well in telling the story while keeping you guessing of what's next to come. Excellent work guys! Keep it up!

As a lifelong Trans am fanatic, and owner of numerous different year T/A's this was fantastic. People forget how popular these cars were. I remember growing up they were everywhere on tv and movies and in real life. That opening sequence was amazing. Great film. Very inspiring.
One of the coolest cars I ever drove was a 72 Firebird that belonged to my friend. He got it after being burned by fry oil. He got a massive settlement. That 72 had a 350 and laid rubber for forever.

Incredibly intrigued as to where this story goes, not sure why KZread recommended this to me but I'm glad it did. I'm hooked, and I need more of this story. I grew up around 2nd gen F-Bodies and I have a soft spot for them. I once stumbled across a Mayan Red 1979 Trans Am non-T-Top with a 400 that had been sitting in a garage for over twenty years. My buddy inherited the house from his father in law, and the garage was full of junk. They were cleaning it out and told me they found a car in there. I stopped by the house, and although they didn't know much about the car, I knew exactly what it was. It only had 40,000 miles and was last registered in 1989. I poured all over the car and was in awe of how original it was. It ended up going to my buddy's brother in law. He had it tuned up and drives it on occasion. I wish I could have had the chance to buy it, because it was probably the sweetest car I will ever find.
My first Firebird I had nicknamed PHANTOM, because she looked like Hell and I brought her back from the dead. Much like this short film, ironically, I bought it sitting in an empty corn field, parked next to a barn, crazy, huh? I'd always wanted a 1977 Trans Am after seeing Smokey and The Bandit in theaters in 1977 as a kid. In 2001, I'd relocated to Colorado and kept driving past this farm. It had a 1977 Formula out in the field. I finally stopped and knocked on the farmer's door and asked if it was for sale. I bought it for $325.00 CASH! I had to have it towed home but began working on it right away. It was a $325 car, badly rusted, junky 305 2bbl carb, it was a junker but it was a #'s matching 1977 Formula Firebird. I got it running and it was a great project. Then married life got in the way and I was forced to sell it in a divorce. Once the dust settled, I found another 1977 Firebird to pick up where I left off. In 2006 I found a base model 1977 Firebird for sale on Craigslist for $400.00! It was another junker but started up. There's no market for a junk base model so I've cloned it to be a Formula, hood, spoiler, and swapped in a .30 bored over 350. It's still a diamond in the rough but I'm keeping the Firebird spirit alive. Great short film, just thought I'd share the story of my PHANTOM Firebird.

John...you REALLY REALLY need to add to this short film!!! It is greatly worth it! I just bought a '79 Trans Am as a project. My parents had an '80 Formula Firebird when I was little and ever since then, I've wanted my own and finally have one. Your film re-inspires me to continue working on it. Sometimes I wonder if it possessed as well because it caught fire when I was driving it home from the used car dealership. Drove it 20 minutes and that's it! Took it to a repair shop and got screwed over with repairs and it's been fighting me every step of the way! I'm going to do it on my own, but it's been very challenging.
