I feel like if you put a flat surface at a 45 degree angle on the toe it might help you balance better when you land weird and also if the edge that contacts the ground could freely rotate (with some resistance to prevent spinning) to become parallel with the ground it might help you recover and also make it easier to jump
This was so fun to watch!
I'm surprised the footprint of the launch bar stayed so narrow through the entire development process, because it's certainly harder to safely land, and it shows considering how many times you fell over, lost you balance, or both. Allen... you are extremely limiting your jumping power by dumping all the Co2 at once, also the solenoids are restricting the pressure. this is because these Co2 cartridges are meant to slowly release gas, which means that most of the actual gas is turning into dry ice inside of the cartridge. Have weak springs that pull the platforms back up after firing. That will help you land easier.
Springs to retract the boots, More psi to overpower the springs (4 cartridges? 8?), more ankle support, get a back belt for weight lifting (stop your back from breaking), more knee support(Not sure how? knee braces?), wear a helmet, elbow pads, put down some martial arts mats or go to a gymnastics building.
3:37 knee-breaker 3000, now with an extra ankle breaker attached for free.
Allen Pan is an absolute treasure. Awesome to see your chops as a film-maker also continuing to grow. What are you doing, step bit?
The 22 cal blank shot that fake bird much farther than I would have guessed.
I always wanted moon shoes as well but to make my own, which I haven’t yet, I was just going to use springs from an old mattress, take them to some wood at the base of my shoes and that would be it. Super simple and basic but I have no idea how well it will go. 😅
The most iffy part is the landing. When the bottom part is extended and lands first Allen always falls forward or to different sides with his feet respectively. If he could make them retract in the air the landing would be way easier. Or he could maybe increase the surface of those. I am curious if you could do an enhanced form of running with those.

i feel like part of that system also protects him from hard landings though. the partially extended hydraulic cushions the fall a bit. if he could make the whole platform more stable by increasing the surface area of the launcher palatform like you said and maybe make an automatic triggering mechanism based on the bend of his leg and an arming mechanism to start it it would be perfect.
this man invented reverse long-fall boots and i'm honestly impressed...
@ImageSC

He really did, and technically use it in that manner too. Although, he should really secure the tubes to the boot so they're able to transmit full power, and instead of it being unstable and flat in one direction, to follow a more general shape of his foot. Then have it to where when landing, the air can be sent into a different set of tubes that have some flow control through disc and holes like they use for mountain bikes.

Many years ago, one person with very similar devices even ran and very efficiently. There, the push was activated by compressing the pistons, and not by pressing a button, it is much more convenient.
Awesome! I feel like it could be a little more stable and jump higher if the pipes were moved a little forward toward the balls of your feet, that way the person operating could also take off and and land with a more natural feel, instead of landing on one’s heels and falling backwards.

An upgraded version of those will endup in an Halo spartan-like suit
You could upgrade them with a weak spring on each shoe to re tract the pipes so you get a better landing. A spring just strong enaugh to retract them after the air compresses
Neat. Two changes I would make here. One, have a pressure sensor mounted on the bottom somewhere, or maybe under the toes of the boots, such that when there is little to no pressure on it (and the safety is off), it triggers the pistons. If you dial that in well, they should basically go off automatically at the point where they would best maximize the jump, at, before, or after when your feet are no longer pressing down on the ground (whichever turns out to be optimal). The second thing I would do is add plates to the bottom of the piston, a flat portion in the middle, and then a hinged "toe" and "heel" that will compress, but also resist compression a bit, trying to return to a flat plane. I would think that would be much smoother to land on than just a straight bar across the instep.

Growing up I always wanted to be an inventor, my one and only idea was basically what you built in this video. It makes me so happy to see that this concept actually kinda works!
Today: Jumping boots Tomorrow: Jet boots Ten years later: "I AM IRON MAN!"
You should make a fast retract system so you won’t break your legs ever time. Maybe you could like put a spring in it or something to make it retract.
Imagine the power he would have if he put four on both feet😂 also I desperately want a pair they look like so much fun
When I was a kid, the only frame of reference I had for moon shoes was a picture in a magazine of a kid in the sky with them on, so I was convinced I could jump like 10+ feet with them, and wanted them so bad to jump over everyone. Never got them, and the reality of seeing them later in my life was pretty disappointing to say the least
