Protecting your feet is extremely important, since a cut to the foot might get infected and cause serious trouble in a survival situation. Those sandals will protect the soles of your feet for a while. But if you have the means, a pair of buckskin moccasins would be a great alternative.
Hi Lilly, those sandals are great! For even greater comfort, some moss could be tied on to form a soft 'insole' and also some moss put under the straps on top of your feet should prevent the straps rubbing your skin on a long trek . Hugs Xx

Excellent idea. I was thinking a Tornio T-shirt or something, but your idea is great.

Or ... use MULLIEN LEAVES as insole.
Ok that is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time! I love that kind of idea and skill.
You are quite right about this as a great downtime project. Not just for the utility, it's a good way to keep your mind occupied while resting a bit. This is also much easier than procuring, processing and working leather. Especially if you are short of tools. Working hide with stone tools is extremely time consuming... Great work, as always. Best of days.
The Egyptians used reeds from rivers and lakes to make wicker sandals. The design was similar to yours, but woven more densely...possible because the reeds were green and more flexible than roots. A heavy bark sole is a possibility, glued in place with the pine pitch you have made.
Hi Lilly, They turned out really well. You have so many skills to share. Don't let Amy see them, she will definitely chew them up. 🐾
Very impressive. Wisteria vines should be good for this. When I was a kid, we would start in spring barefooted in the garden. By August our feet were so tough, you could walk across over briars without feeling them much. However, wearing shoes all the time make feet very tender. Good job as always.

You mean green or dried vines? I have lots of wisteria plants around my house they smell great but the bark is too thick???
@willieboy3011

The vines grow everywhere undergound and along the surface and even up trees here--from small to medium length. The vines are soft and the bark slices off easily. It is quite limber too.
That was very cool, Lilly! We can never know what we may need in a survival situation and having some practice beforehand goes a long way, especially if the practice went well and was a success. Great job, fun content, you have a great channel, Lilly!
Very well done lilly! Your an amazing young lady!
Great shoes , mad skills and PRETTY feet . Bring on the apocalypse !

Very nice. What you needed was a loop for your big toes on each shoe.
Don't stay too long on the same place while the roots are still fresh ! 😁
Lilly!! You constantly amaze me with the variety and depth of your skills. And yes, protecting your feet from exposure is so important to survive. Very awesome!! 😊
Great show Lily. Thoroughly enjoy the survivalist training that you give. You're absolutely right about prioritizing shelter, fuel for fire, hunting, and the other necessities that need to be done prior to making survival shoes. But it sounds like if people are going to survive, then they are going to have to survive with others who specialize in specific tools and traits. Wishing you and yours the best and all your endeavors, especially during these very trying times. Keep up the great work.

Hi Lilly, So Talented and Creative !!! As always, it is good to see you, hear you , and listen to you. Please stay safe in your travels and surroundings.. Michigan, USA
great video as usual! I really enjoy the reality of your projects, you show it and discuss how it really is. You're so humble and you show mistakes that allow to me to actively celebrate with you when you succeed. I always know I'm gonna learn something and take an emotional ride with you on these takes. I actually think I could weave together some shoes now without the need for rubber, stitching, and various materials. Thanks Lilly
PERFECT ANKLES !
Very cool! May have to try to make myself a pair of these. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful ideas.
Excellent work on the shoes Lily! Shoe making ability would come in handy in the wild. My grandmother used to say if your feet hurt, your whole body will hurt. She was right. Thanks for the video & hello from Texas.
Hi Lilly, on a survival challenge one time we were given the task of making some kind of foot protection, i used an old motorcycle tyre cut to foot size sections and made some straps from wild nettle stems and braided into inch wide sections. the job you did with those primitive shoes is fantastic, another great video. keep up the good work!
very clever stuff Lilly enjoyed this video thanks for passing this knowledge on mate 😁
Interesting video. A guy named Cody Lundine teaches primitive skills and he goes bare foot wherever he goes. He's made foot gear out what's out in the bush. A lot ideas to build on. Great video.
Gotta love Lilly's "earth shoes"!! So darn clever!
When I was in Japan in 2008 I watched these guys in the open air museum calles Minka-En weaving some shoes out of rice straw and since then I deeply wanted to make such handcraft shoes, but as I have no rice straw I let it go. But roots are a pretty good alternative and by thinking about it, I could imagine that I could also make one out of ivy.
That's great! I love it when you make what you need from nature.
Pretty cool Lilly. Never thought about making a shoe that way. Thanks for all your videos.
They came out amazing, it's so great what you can do with a bit of work, but with the time to make them, making them in the night would be best in my opinion, great video as always, be safe and have fun
Another great video, thanks for the time you put into bringing great content to your viewers.
Amazing! Actually, mind bloggling to me! Really goes to show how flexible and ingenius your mind is Lilly! Every time I watch these presentations I think my mind is gradually opening up. Modern life style surely dampens the creativity for improvization! Thanks for sharing this! :O)
They actually look pretty good! I imagine a kind of flip-flop design would work best.
Sooooo awesome! Can’t wait to make mine! Thanks Lilly!
You may be starting a fashion trend😁 Thanks for sharing your skills Lily ✌😎👍❤
An incredible way of weaving pads for your feet Lilly to go over stoney ground , your friend Vanessa Blank made a pair of sandals from leather hyde a while back but bush roots is a lot more available nice one 👍. Lilly.
Great video,Thanks for your time.
❤️ love it, nice work. The APO 1S is still an excellent piece of equipment.
I must say that is some very impressive work you did there. Due to some nerve damage I have very sensitive feet. I can't even walk on soft grass. This skill would save my life. Good information to have.
Thanks for that lesson Lilly, Legend!
Good job done. One might have thought they would have been uncomfortable but they seem to be just fine.
Absolutely fascinating. People would have done this so very long ago. Bravo for showing these wonderful skills.
Greetings from Pennsylvania!!! 😎 👍
Awesome video! Using a weeping willow for this, also adds protection against cuts and scrapes , since the resin has aspirin like qualities!
Thank you, I was actually wondering recently how to improvise shoes if needed. It's one of those items that would be hard to replace in the event of a severe disruption to society.
Awesome work!!! You are so creative!!! I love your new shoes and will try to make them too...I really enjoy your video content it's very informative and inspiring!!!
Pheasant for dinner? Nice sandals they work at protecting your feet..very cool.
That's a Awesome job making those shoes. Nice !! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍
They came out extremely good. Did you practice several times before completing this pair?
What a wonderful idea. True, not a quick project but one to do when you have some down time.
Great video. That’s definitely a subject most people would even think about until they need them.
Jetzt wird'n Schuh draus 💡😉👍
Well done! Protecting your feet not only enhances your mobilty but also guards against injury, and even worse, infection. Where I live, the Sonoran Desert, travel by foot can be daunting in many ways: surface heat, and most especially thorns of all kinds. Great demonstration on primitive footware construction.
sandals made by Lilly , awesome
Great Job Lilly! 👍🏼
I know I've said this before, but you are freaking awesome... really! You are a great inspiration :)
Outstanding! Thanks for this.
You have better patience than me making those, good job!
Next level minimalist shoe. Those turned out quite well.
They are going to be wearing that on the red carpet this year at Cannes.
Four hours! You certainly have a lot of patience. I did not expect them to be comfortable. I expected there to be little nubs that would make sores on your feet. Thank you.
Great Ideas! Never thought of using roots.
Good to see you back and healthy.
Very crafty Lilly!!👍❤
Deine Sandalen sind sehr sehr gut gelungen liebe Lilly! Ganz tolle Idee und super Video! Beste Grüße Sepp
Lilly I wish I knew 10% of your Bushcraft skills nice job and a great video thank you stay safe and be well.
very impressive, gorgeous lady!
Did I heard a pheasant in the background? Great job weaving those sandals.
Fantastic Lilly 😀

Nice job that you did there Hopefully a lot of people learning from you too
Hey Lilly great vidéo 👍. Congratulations from Belgium Europe 😉✋🇧🇪
Nice! That's a handy craft to have in reserve. Have you ever tried wooden sandals? I haven't but I think it might also be a good one (if you have an axe). It would be far quicker, last much longer and protect your feet much better. Only trouble is that it'll be rougher on your soles during longer treks and you risk splinters until you can properly finish them unless you find just the right lumber. I think the build would be as such: Use a trunk at least 20cm in diameter (wider is better) and use log-splitting techniques to cut out two rectangular blocks roughly 6cm thick (thicker if you're carrying a lot of weight with you or walking on rocky terrain), a little wider than your foot, and about 5cm longer than your foot. The bottom of the sandal should be the outside bark of the log while your foot will be on the inner part. Avoid using the center of the log. It's bad construction material. Next, on the bottom of the sandal you cut 2 grooves, each from left to right, about 2-3cm deep at both the front and back of your foot's arch. This is where you wrap your cord around so you can tie your foot down. The groove should be deep enough so your cord doesn't touch the ground or allow the cord to slip off, and it also helps to improve your grip a little so you aren't just standing on a completely flat piece of wood that just slides around all over the place. Next, use a rough, oval-ish stone to grind and flatten the top of the sandal. Using a knife or axe to do isn't a good idea since it will leave sharp tips on the ends of the grain, not to mention the struggle of trying to create a flat surface with an ill-suited cutting tool. Rough but flat or roundish stones have been used to grind out flat surfaces since the dawn of humankind. It'll also have the benefit of pulverizing the grains so it's a little softer on your feet and less prone to splinter. After that it's just a matter of getting some decent cordage to wrap around the grooves and your foot, and smoothing out the groove so the edges aren't cutting the cord. If you can get a long enough cord, place the center of the cord over the front of your foot, loop both ends under the front groove, cross over the top of your foot, down under the back groove, cross behind your heel, then wrap the leftovers around the bottom of your leg. If the cord isn't strong enough, twine it and make sure your grooves are deep and wide enough. When you have downtime, carve your sandals to proper size and round out all the edges (especially the cord groove). Also cut some cross-hatch grooves into the bottom of the sandals with a rough stone that has a corner around 90degrees for better traction, and slowly stone-grind down some gentle grooves into the top of the sandal so it fits the shape of your feet better. Oh, and it'd be a good idea to carefully bake the bottom of the sandals over some fire to help make it more durable. Finally, keep in mind the golden rule when working with wood: Round is good, corners are bad.
Nice one Lilly good job
Great Job Lilly!
I would never have thought of this. Basket style soles. That is really something! Is there nothing you can't do?! Amazing!
Very informative and interesting thank you for sharing this with us
Brilliant!, such a great idea 👍👍
❤ Wow!!- Cool sandals you made. Great protection for your feet. You have awesome videos.
Thank you for this video. I've been waiting for this for ages. Love them.
Good stuff, very much so. Keep the knowledge coming.
Very nicely done Lilly 👍👍
Echt gute Sache ,wie du Sandalen machen kannst !! 😃😃
Amazing work! Is there nothing you can't do? : ) It's funny how in post-apocalyptic movies they always show people walking around with rags and bags tied to their feet as if there aren't techniques like this to make sandals/shoes. And of course given enough time and patience, you can tan hide and make your own leather for proper shoemaking (now that requires a step up from survivalist conditions of course).
Anything worthwhile takes time and effort
Better than Dr. Scholl's but NOT Red Wing! Enjoying time off, Verk. :)
At first I thought you might use some tree bark, I did not expect using the roots from the tree, we do have some ivy growing around here in spots, I am sure like the thinner parts of the roots it would be the same for ivy for ease of flexibility to weave. Thanks for the video!
Fantastica realizzazione, bravissima !
Great idea! Always so clever! Lilly, do you think that vines would be as useful as roots for making primitive sandals?
Great idea , if your shoes get wet , you gotta give them time to dry out , people will need all these good ideas ... you are the best ... day safe stay well ... thank you again.
Nice work. Thanks
Another great video, love the stone age flip flops.
Very Cool! Love the look.
Cómo último recurso me parece excelente.
