Making Money Scrapping Recycling 400 + LBS Ballasts Motors & Transformers!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello KZread Scrappers! Well I just can't seem to get away from lighting ballasts from my college contact. This haul contained many boxes full of them. I estimated over 400 pounds worth. Be sure that ALL of the ballasts you collect are marked "NON-PCB" before you take them from a business because your yard will "NOT" buy them and then your stuck with a bunch of "hazardous" items that you cannot get rid of!!! In this load there is a nice mix of ballasts, motors and transformers, all of which go for different rates at my yard. That's why it is very important to sort everything. And also if your new to my videos I always stress how important a business license is because your yard may pay you more money per pound. So make some calls to get the best prices possible. I hope you all enjoyed this video and as always I hope it motivates you to go out there and get some contracts/contacts. Please Like & Subscribe! Take Care!

Thanks Marcus. I'm way behind on videos. I've been hitting eBay so hard and am working on a new niche for possible toy restorations. We will see what happens. I may have gone a little overboard on my "giving" ideas. A video to come soon. Take Care.

Thanks Anthony. I have to be honest that I got carried away with the giving ideas from my scrap. While I'm going to give a big chunk away around Christmas I've decided to keep some cash to pay down some debt I have on our house. The bible does hammer on tithing for sure and I believe you should help when you can but the bible also has a lot of verses on debt and getting out of it. I'm going to do a video on what I came up with. Take Care.

There is nothing wrong with that. Jesus said your first responsibility is to your family and yourself. We must do everything in moderation. Looking forward to the video. God Bless.

Nice haul Kerry! Those ballasts are heavy critters so don't overload your back.

Hi Kerry! What a wonderful load! I do have a question though- what do you do with the outer coating after stripping wires? I like to recycle as much as possible(that and money is what got me scrapping). However after stripping a buck of wire, there's sooo much rubber left. I don't think it's recyclable but it seems like such a waste to throw it out. Thank you, brian.

It has to go as garbage here. I can't recycle it. I only scrap the heavy gauge wiring anymore though. The smaller wire has more weight in insulation than copper so you get paid for "garbage" at a copper rate. Take Care.

Why thank you for the info! what would you consider small gauge wire? house wire and cords like that?

I didn't take the copper out of these. Too much work for a little return. I'm working on a video that will show all my invoices/payments from the scrap yard this year. Take Care.

how much do the scrap yard pay for ballasts?

They used to pay the same as computer power supply but now they are way down to .05 cents a pound. Doesn't sound like much but they are heavy and they add up. Prices for a lot of things are down right now. Take Care.

Uncle Sam always wants your money so yes you have to pay taxes. But there are ways to pay less taxes so consult an expert.

If your starting this out as a hobby your ok in the beginning when learning the ropes so to speak, but in my opinion you will want to get a business license eventually if your serious about scrapping for income. The license is cheap, under $20 bucks. The perks and deductions you can get from a license are well worth it. Anything related to your scrap business is tax deductible from the sorting bins you buy to the tools you use. You can declare so much per mile on your vehicle too. The best perk is that some yards will pay you more money per pound on your scrap if you have a business license. Make some calls to your yards to see. I hope this helps. I know the government is a pain but morally I always try to do what is right. Take Care and Good Luck. Please check back with me. I want to hear about your success.
