I can’t believe how quickly time has gone by since you had Arthur. The cardigan came out great. If you do want to use yarn to sew the buttons on, split the ply so it isn’t so fat. But like you , I mostly prefer thread ❤

There is a range of knitting stitch patterns called "waffle stitch" - this one is very similar to, if not exactly the same as, the free pattern for the Close Knit Waffle Hat. To make the toddler size for that cast on fewer stitches and use multiples of 8 stitches. Then do fewer pattern repeats before decreasing for the crown just as given in the pattern - it's very adjustable for different yarns, sizes etc. ;-) To work that hat's stitch pattern flat - and have it "balanced" (that is, each side matches and if seamed with mattress stitch you get a continuous pattern across the seam) you will need a multiple of multiple of 4 stitches, plus 2: Row 1 (RS): P2, *K2, P2, repeat from * to the end. Row 2: *K2, P2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, K2. Rows 3 and 4: K to the end.

My first pretty much wanted to be awake all the time. We tried so many things. Her sleeping habits improved the summer she was 3, and then was pretty normal by the time she started school. Regular park/outside time and her being old enough to appreciate a bedtime routine made the difference. My second slept all the time! He'd wake up early, but nap twice and bedtime was around 6-7. Think it just depends on the kid. Sweater looks so sweet and snuggly. I think yours looks better than the book's!

Wow, I really love hearing about the complexities that is raising a child - my little guy is a month or so younger than yours, and it is so challenging and so wonderful at the same time! Sleep regression is TOUGH both for sanity and for knitting productivity. At the same time, it's so delightful to see them grow and learn and become more and more themselves. Thanks for this video!

It turned out so cute!! Loveeee the waffle-y stitch texture. & I’m with ya on the sleep mindset. I used to frantically look up all the remedies, tricks, schedules, and “fixes” for sleep. I was worried I was doing something so wrong until I realized… babies just need help sometimes 🥲 and ugh all the milestones and just so cool. sending you all the good vibes for better sleep!

I didn't know what about the buttons and I'm going to try it. Because I feel the same way you do it about using yarn. Parenting is an exercise in all things and when you get through one phase, there's another waiting. We're all in it with you! Naps are tricky! He'll get back. All the best, Kimberly

YES to everything you just said! My first love is sewing and I picked up knitting when my son was 4 months old and I realized I couldn't sew anymore around him (because of ironing, of all the pins and of the many things laying around that you don't even realize that are there before having a newborn in the room). Knitting is much more doable and I can pick it up and just do a couple of stitches and that feels great, it nurtures my creativity AND doesn't put him in danger 😂 Very much looking forward to go back to sewing though, now he's 18 months old and longer naps are starting, fingers crossed they last!

Hi Bethany, I just finished the same cardigan in size 0-3 months. Such a nice patern, I used a thinner yarn en it turned out great. The book ‘ Making Memories’ is just stunning. I think i’am gone cast on another cardigan in size 4 yr. 🥰

Sending you guys love!! My son didn’t sleep through the night until I stopped breastfeeding him (around 1.5 yrs old), he would wake u every 2 to 3 hours at night and would sleep maybe 3 hours at nap time during the day. Now at 2 yr 1 month he’s decided to give up naps all together 😅 regardless if he’s tired or not.

I feel like your tip of giving the little one some yarn still applies to my 6yo, and at 5, 4, etc. I have a ball of yarn he took scissors to at 3 and I give him a long piece to play with while I knit and he's happy.

How did you start in garment knitting? I’ve been knitting for years and basically only do hats, ear warmers, washcloths etc. in garter stitch. I’m just not sure how to expand my skill set.

Just remember when you talk about Arthur not doing things very well, they are being looked at through the eyes of an adult with another agenda. Arthur is doing all things Arthur and he is doing all things well. Knitting around him while he is awake and active will show him your passion. He will grow to appreciate your work and your love and attention. You do you as a person at the same time you do you as a mom. Welcome to the complex world of being Mommy for the rest of your life. Please share what you notice in Arthur as he changes, but do it in a manner that compliments Arthur and family life and your passion for knitting. As Arthur matures you will find time for knitting in even more interesting ways. You will mature in your knitting style even as your son matures. Just remember to have fun in it all. 💚💚💚

I think I’ve been very complimentary and supportive of family life with all that I’ve shared. I am so proud of my son, his determination, and the strong bond we three have. At the same time I’m not trying to portray my life like a bouquet of roses. We struggle together sometimes and that’s ok too. Doesn’t make the experience any less wonderful, it makes it real 😄
