It’s not random noodling, it’s very purposeful noodling from an artist who who possesses great artistry and has work to hone and refine his artistry.

The moog patch as you go lower in the scale reminds me a lot of the moog bass sounds on a lot of the old Stevie wonder albums in the 70s. It would be so cool to see more moog sound design lessons

Made some coffee. Powered up the Nord Stage, selected a Rhodes model and started adding effects and amp sim until I had a nice warm sound. Opened the Moog Mini app on my ipad and twiddled some knobs to get that creamy lead sound. Played some lush m11 chords. A nice way to spend a saturday morning. Thanks Matt!

@@modalmixture I was lacking reverb. Once I added that it, it sounded better, but not the same. I guess a £10 app, which is a digital recreation, is never going to sound as good as the original analogue instrument.

moog + electric piano 😍 It doesn't get any better than this And I love the way you explain the sound+music combo. There's a lot of people recommending strict formula that don't take into account the response of the instrument. And both moog and Rhodes are very 'organic' instruments

I came across a nice little idea, especially for VST-users - in case the tremolo/phaser hits too hard all the time, get yourself control over the dry-wet-signal and make the trem come and go while holding on to that sustain pedal. Thanks for inspiring me so much Matt!

A good programmable env-follower or a dynamic EQ or a MB limiter would do too. Try Melda stuff, you won't find more programmable control elsewhere. Cheers

Amazing

Over the past nine months, since this video came out, I have been trying to get a Moog sound from a Boog. This video is life changing, excellent, amazing. I obtained a 1965 Crossfield Reel to Reel tube (valve) recorder. The signal was sent into the reel to reel, from there I also used a Roland RE-20 Space Echo (floor model) and a Boss CS-3 Compressor, a dbx120 Dynamic Subharmonic Synthesizer. I ended up buying a Moog Subsequent 37, but not before making very beautiful sounds with the Boog. I was never able to get the sounds in this video but came so close at times it was hard to tell the difference. Thank you Matt Johnson. Thank you.

The Bob Ross of keys. That term gets thrown about a lot, but Matt and Bob share a similar vibe, of letting the art/music itself do most of the teaching. Both chill af too, which really helps get into the headspace of being ready to absorb knowledge.

Ever since I first heard Jamiroquai, I've looked for that minimoog lead sound, I didn't know what it was for so long. So glad now I know, thank you!! btw saw jamiroquai live in 2013, So good!!

There is a TON of demo vids on gear and all.... but majority of them have bad music when they test the equipment. But this here, is perfect! Liked and Subscribed

I think this is the video that made me start learning the keys 3 years ago, at the age of 40 (used to play guitar back in my 20s). I've now got to a point that I really enjoy, mostly because this video helped me focus only at things I really like! I can now use freely almost all of these sounds in all keys, including that altered dominant at 15:43. Thank you so much for this!

I'm going to listen to. That title 'Expansion' reminds me 'Contracts' by Jasper Van't Hof (great other e-piano man) and Archie Shepp in the live album MamaRose, I thing they both express about human baby life, it may be quite moving (long intro)

I kept saying it was a sound I loved and all I could say was Jamariquai and talk about a guy in a top hat walking on a moving floor. They all looked at me as if I was crazy. I didn't care, I found what I was looking for. Lol😅

Way over my head for the time being but the take away: Learn the 7th and 9th chords and inversions, skip the 3rd in the left hand, play around with major 7th and see what happens when I add a 6th. No crazy progressions, just start with 6-2-5-1 G-C-F-Bb and move up and down the keyboard. Thanks a lot!

I love both of this instruments and this video encapsulates why perfectly. Made me feel high. I mean... even more.

This takes me back to listening to a radio show called "Dreamtime" here in Australia. It was on late Sunday night and comprised long, dreamy ambient compositions, intermingled with experimental and environmental sounds - sheer bliss. It was like sinking into a soft cloud of serenity.

Wow Radio has gifted me a handful of moments like those. Mostly as a kid an teen. That was pure magic, when that would happen. Providing a kind of deep satisfaction and connection that’s hard to have in the current world. I miss that.

Why do I feel emotions hearing this? So strange, normal music doesn’t do this me, the chords and sounds are hitting different!

I got quite close, I guess, but not there yet. Seems all the Boog reviews showing how close it is to minimoog lied to us. Basically I configured the oscilators and tweaked Contour and Emphasis.
