Making Lock Rabbet Joints

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Join George Vondriska on Thursday, January 11th at 11:00 a.m. CT for a FREE LIVE event! You're going to love this approach for making boxes, it's a one bit wonder. Set up a 1/4" slot cutter (amzn.to/48CmXzS) in your router table and, with that one setup, you can cut the corner joint AND the groove for the drawer bottom. The joint has mechanical strength and lots of surface area for glue, making this a great drawer box joint. Need a use for your excess sawdust? Here’s 7 of them! Thanks George, live stream audio seems to be a problem overall. Yours was not bad, except, during the camera switch, which you solved during the show. A better mic option might be an eye glass mounted micro boom mic, that is connected to a box on your belt to send audio the camera. These mics tend to be nose canceling and would mute the machine noise even better. Over all I had no issue hearing you, I just pulled up the audio on my iPad. Could use use a 1/4 up spiral cutter or straight bit to make the joint instead of the slot cutter, or would more tear out be an issue? I first saw this technique demonstrated on a table saw with the dado stack blade, only issue was the vertical cuts which required a tall fence attachment to the saw’s fence. Cheers

If the material is over 2", can't you just raise the bit when cutting the dado, to account for the extra thickness? Then on the tongue cut, take first pass , raise the bit, and take a second pass to remove the extra thickness.

@@Wwgoa , it was a rethorical question :) I'm pretty sure it can be done, as I have done it with a straight bit in a plunge router.

Maybe . . . but don't be rude. You probably paid nothing for a great video and a sound way of making drawers - or any box@@Wwgoa
