    Beautiful moccasins, I love the beadwork! I think I held my breath until it was completely flipped. You are both so talented. I know this is an old video, I wish you had more. Really enjoy your channel and appreciate you sharing this wonderful knowledge.

    I got a suggestion - I sew on sole about half way and turn that half over then sew the other side and turn that over. sometimes I leave the heel till last and do that then. It makes it a lot easier to turn it inside out with hard sole.

    I just watched a 10:30 long video of a man flipping a moccasin inside out lol. Jokes aside, beautiful work and it's great to see real American craft/heritage kept alive today.

    I found folding the heel back first puts too much tension in the middle. Now I start at the toe and leave heel for last

    Beautiful beadwork. I have yet to make a pair of moccasins for myself, I do not plan to add beadwork on my first two pairs, I may eventually l, I have little experience with bead work, I have yet to get enough hairless leather for a pair of moccasins

    If you push the needle on an angle out through the edge of the rawhide instead of the bottom you dont have to turn the moccasin inside out. Makes it a lot easier to work with hard soles and you wont mess up the beading

    I just learned a trick to wet it before you turn it ...the leather becomes soft and it turns with no problem then just let it dry the leather will get hard again like it was before wetting it ..you have to submerge the whole shoe in water .

    You can overlap the stitches on the back of the heel and turn it inside out which makes it much easier to turn rightside out then turn the back half inside out and stitch the heel seam up to the top then turn rightside out then use a box cutter knife to make slits for the leather thong for the lace

    So how was it that you managed to hide the threads from the beadwork? I know many who will sew a thin piece of fabric to cover them so there's a decorative inside, but I don't want to do that exactly. I've made one pair before, and they turned out horribly. I would like to do well with my moccasins so they look nice in the powwow circle!

    ***** when you sew the beads on the uppers, to hide the thread you don't push the needle all the way through the leather. You push down most of the way and then bring it back up.

    Steve buckskinner 54 How long do you soak the moccasin in water?

  • @stevebuckskinner5482

    @stevebuckskinner5482

    Just enough to make the hard moccasins sole pliable. Maybe five or ten minutes in warm water. (Not hot). It might shrink ever-so-slightly but will stretch out in a very short amount of time.

    I find it amusing that you said ' that if you're looking for rubber-soled moccasins you should turn the video off and look elsewhere.' Like it's not Indian. Where do you think they got beads from? Whitemen introduced them, hell, them brought Manhatten for a handful of them.

  • @hezekiahwhiteman1784

    RoccosPlace1 it was actually a chest full of beads which were highly priced at the time. The historical paintings show only a handful of beads to make natives look stupid. P.S. it was a good sized chest and among the beads was 24$ and metal pots pans knives and utensils

    Great! Thanks for sharing. I also make my own moccasins high plane Lakota style (same as yours), but always my problem is to meassure the upper part. If you want to see my moccasins, you can visit my facebook (Manolo H Luz) or if you prefer tellme and I will try to make a video. Thanks again. Congrats.
