Making Kitchen Drawer Organization

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I have finally gotten around to making organizers for three of our kitchen drawers. In one of the lower drawers, we keep all of our flat things like cookie sheets, cutting boards, and pizza pans. They were just sitting in the drawer and we had to dig through the pile anytime we wanted to use anything. I built a storage system the holds the items separate and vertically. I also built divided boxes for two of the top drawers on either side of the stove. One is for our silverware and the other is for our cooking utensils.

Designers, inventors, builders, makers: Take note of this man's attitude toward mistakes and difficulties, his attention to detail, how he keeps his ideas fluid, his practice of streamlining the process, and his dedication to honest assessment and learning from every project. These are skills or traits that lead to success. We can learn a lot here! Thank you, Frank, for doing all the work and editing to make these really enjoyable videos.

Now there's an idea! Notch out the back of the actual drawer and put a set of slides on the top tray... Cool! As you push the actual drawer shut the top tray would return to "home". There you go, Frank - a fancy-pants top tray! :-)

Dave, are you saying that the top tray would be the same size as the bottom tray? If so, what supports the back of the top tray when the drawer is pulled out and you slide the top tray all the way back to get to the contents of the bottom tray? Where would the slides on the top tray go. I really like your idea here and want to completely understand what you are suggesting. Thanks, Barry.

Well you beat me. I put our "new" kitchen in in 1999. Last year my wife got her custom dividers, finally. They are made from solid beech and no bottoms. My wife is old school and wanted rubberized draw lining. It was easier to line the entire drawer and place the divider assembly on top of it. Wish we had full extension drawers.

After watching this, I really like the 2-tier idea for the silverware drawer, but I probably would make the upper tier 1/2 length, to slide 'front to back' on top of the lower tier, and give access to utensils on the lower level without having to remove the upper level...I've also seen some kitchen cabinets where a single drawer face has an upper drawer half on separate slides behind it (two drawers behind a single drawer face).Nice work! You're giving me ideas for when I remodel my kitchen.

Those are fantastic. I'm super jealous. And the stacked trays makes sense for hiding the less used stuff like toddler plastic flatware. Though I do have one thought. The utensil drawer cubbies ... with the smaller ones in the back you have to pull the drawer all the way out to reach them. If you turned it around so the longer cubbies were in the back and made sure the handles of the longer items in those back cubbies were turned the correct way you could access them without pulling the drawer all the way out. But those are probably the more used items anyway so having them in front is really useful.
