Garage Storage Drawers Part 1
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I am building a storage system for our basement. We are thinking of this as our garage - all the things that you would put in a garage minus the car; 64 junk drawers. The system is held up with a structure made from 2 by 4s. These built with mortise and tenon joints made with a Pantorouter. The drawers slide in dados in that structure. The drawers are fully removable so they can be carried around like a box full of stuff. This video is just building the structure and the drawers. The next video will be installing this structure and adding a French cleat wall for longer tools like shovels and rakes.

You are truly an amazing master craftsman, don't think I have seen a woodworking channel like yours that is this captivating. You sir are a woodworking genius!!
Excellent use of the PantoRouter, Frank! Thank you! Your video productions are extraordinary. We all know the time it takes to shoot and edit these works of cinematic art and we thank you for sharing with us. We live in a remarkable world of caring and sharing and it shows through all of your work. The care you demonstrate by designing and executing precision in your builds is an important lesson for all of us, and your willingness to share your knowledge and experience is a true gift. Thank you Frank and Calvin!

I have never seen this quality of woodworking combined with this level of cinematography. This is my new favorite channel.
man... was starting work on storage shelves in my store room, and now i feel grossly inadequate.... yet, at the same time.... at peace. thats what a frank video does.
A teenager being less than excited about doing something; imagine my shock. It is exciting when you start to see how bright they really are. It somewhat deadens the pain of their constant aggravation with you.

@@lt_dagg Lasering stuff is the same... Just got done with a 8 hour marathon of engraving a company logo into the many pieces of one of my wood games.... Place parts, do something else, come back in 10 minutes to place new parts....
I started watching this channel when the kids were in grade school, and because adults don’t change much from year-to year, I’m always shocked to see how quickly kids grow up. You don’t see them for a year or two or three, and suddenly they’re teenagers! Claire and Calvin will forever be immortalized as kids in my mind, since that’s when I was watching almost only maker videos, exclusively.
Been watching the pantorouter for years, but those stop motions of the joints being cut were fabulous. Better yet are the drawers doing "the wave" at the end. had to watch that several times. I'd be pretty pleased if you'd just post about a five minute loop of that. I'd watch!
I love your thought process on this one! Making sure to be precise where it actually matters and not wasting your time where it doesn't.
Another great video from Frank, combining his architectural sense of design with his pragmatic woodworkers sense of practical wood usage and sheet goods yield considerations. I always appreciate Frank’s explanations as they tie together with his visuals; it makes it so easy and to really get what he’s saying with what he’s doing. We the viewers get to see into his mind, so to speak. Thanks Frank. You’re making us all better woodworkers, thinkers, and dreamers. There’s always a little spark of excitement when another Frank Makes video hits the feed.
You have the patience of a saint Frank! From assembling all those drawers to meticulously putting those stop animation segments together. Always a pleasure to watch your work.
I love the idea of the bottom sticking out to be the slide. I'm going to steal that idea.

Same here. I like seeing him learning with Frank. Hopefully more to come.
Having made big repetitive projects like this, I know the urge to simplify it to make life easy. In this build all those corners are not cut. In fact Frank goes the extra mile to make a piece of fine furniture where many would use basic Ikea garage shelving. Not to mention the videography, which is, as always, stunning. Thanks Frank. You inspire.
I forget how many years I've been watching .. but I still drool each time I see your workshop. Nice project - well told and produced once again. Thanks for continuing to share your passion Frank.

I don't like if someone is talking the hole time of the video, u r the only one I can hear and I like ur voice. It's so peaceful. Ur the only one I sub who is talking the hole time 😁😉
I so love the pace. And the shelf is great too 😅
Thank you for the effort and time you put in every video Frank, you don't know how much it means to us viewers. May more success come to you good sir!
The amount of time and attention to detail you put into your videos (not to mention the projects themselves!) is phenomenal Frank. Just love the stop frame animation segments. It reminds me of a kids TV programme we had here in the UK back in the 80's called Morph. Just puts a big smile on my face 😊👍
A simple yet elegant solution to storage needs. Beautiful. And BTW I would have LOVED it if my dad had a CNC machine. I think the handy gene skips a generation......
oh my, I forgot how long its been since I started following your channel Frank. Your kids were just barely toddlers then. Seeing Calvin today and how much he's grown into a little man.......I am suddenly aware of the passage of time and how old I must be getting and how much more my back hurts. Yet still I sit here, and tell myself..."One day I'm gonna make stuff like Frank"
Nice to see it all together. It was really cool to watch Calvin working on the handles, on InstaStories. He was so focused and precise. Very clever kid. You deserve your "Proud Dad" story.
Always happy to see a new Frank Howarth video.
At 13:54 a proud father's story begins and at 14:06 we hear Calvin has asserted a key fact of life "It's not super exciting" (not much is - but then there are moments and the satisfaction in all jobs well done).
From move-in and building the shop to today's vlog you have come a long way and have quite the shop. Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Best on the net award! Good on you this Happy Easter.
Not many people would spend the time making basement storage like this but I'm glad you did. That is awesome and also inspirational
IDK if I just haven't been paying close attention before or not, but your drawer dado/rabbet joint is simple and strong. I oooohed in my living room. Perfect video!
His collection of tools is exquisite
Thanks Frank, inspiring video. I like the attention to esthetics in your practical projects. You probably will see these drawers everyday, so it makes sense to make them esthetically pleasing.
Always love watching your process Frank, it's very calming and seems to be an obvious way to build, even though it isn't always!
Wow ! amazing woodworking and video production... relaxing and so therapeutic to watch. Many thanks!
Ahhh the PantoRouter. one of Mathias's favorite toys.
That effect at the end is awesome. As usual, brilliant storytelling and creative videography.
Amazing... and then that last shot of the cascading drawers... pure brilliance!

Frank you are amazing how fantastic to see you do all these things. I will await the next video.
I really like how much work space you've made yourself with the table saws. Also a couple of the tricks you did were really cool, thanks for the upload!
Frank, I like the method you used to make drawer slides and I see you used 1/2" ply for the bottom. I have used that method over and over again but my drawers were smaller so I used 1/4" bottoms. They were very successful and I have used them now about 7 years and they still work fine. Mine was an experiment which proved alright. Thanks for your videos. I like them a lot. John in Missouri Valley, Ia.
I hope that your video work continues indefinitely. A pleasure to watch, even if you are not a woodworker.
Your builds are always great. I really enjoy your videos and effects.
Every time KZread tells me you've posted another video, it feels like an old friend coming for dinner. Keep up the good work--it's inspirational, fascinating, and I learn something new every time.
Especially beautiful stop-motion clips in this one, those things must be a labour of love!
Superb. I did a project like this for a rolling shop table. It was not unlike Jeremy's, just portable and fewer drawers. I really struggled to keep my sides squared. I used plywood, and it just wasn't as controllable as the framed panels you made. Because of jointing and planing it would've been much more in my wheelhouse to treat those as perfect planar surfaces compared to, somewhat ironically, the plywood. For my small setup there is problem of so much dust collection. Then there's how hard such a project is on my jointer and planer blades. But, I guess that's why we buy the stuff. To use it! Great job.

Unfortunately, to use it is also to use it up. So, don't skimp the upkeep.
Happy Easter Frank, always a pleasure to watch the product and the video being produced so professionally.
Brilliant Process video i should call it. It teaches, visually brilliant design and how it should be allowed to fall in place. Thanks a ton.
Calvin may look a bit sullen and unenthusiastic now, but in a few years he's going to treasure the time he had with his dad and the things he learned to do. For me, it was learning to drive a tractor (and later a car) and helping him by raking the hay and lubing the hay rake.
That concertina ending was just pure class Frank.
Your editing is amazing!!!!!!!
Frank... This build is BRILLIANT!!!!
Beautifully done as usual.👏 I never cease to be amazed at how you do all the work by yourself - I know your son helped out here, but I'm talking about all the other things you have to do with no-one to even 'hold the other end' (if you know what I mean) as you work.
I want to watch that drawer effect at the end again and again. Great video. You can never have too many junk drawers.
No doubt the most intelligent woodworker west of the Great Mountains!
Great job, Calvin!!!! Love this design, Frank. Great work!

Love that push stick with the saw handle!!
Nice video Frank, I’ve built similar pieces for clients in the past usually for their laundry rooms. The first one I did was like yours with no intermediate lateral supports, the wood bowed ever so slightly and made all the drawers on one side of the bow jam an the ones on the other side sloppy. Client kept using it in this state for about a year and eventually destroyed 9 of the drawer boxes. After this disaster I always add a spacer across the middle of all the bays to maintain dimensional integrity. If it disturbs the look you’re going for paint the spacer black and set it back 2” it helps hide it.
Cool videmo Frank. Even the leaf on the floor moved at the end. You definitely have more patience than me. Great videography. Thanks for sharing.
