What was the best resources for you to learn the octatrack?
As a Frenchman and house appreciator, I approve of this entire video
I mean, there was a short time that I lived and breathed house. My first dream career was being a dj. I moved on for a ton of reasons, but among them was the assumption that getting into it all was just too expensive for equipment and required so much legwork researching and picking up resources for sampling. And now we're here. That's a tight track you just cut using that one box. Man. Brilliant. It's brilliant.

FINALLY, a dedicated octatrack video from one of the communities top creators! It’s been a long time coming and I’m super hyped. Could really do with lots more like this.
Everyone loves the French Touch sound. Merveilleuse.
Thank you very much for your time to produce and post weekly content. I love the format, something to look forward during the week and always delivers at when the weekend comes. I think you are really good in showcasing the gears. I absolutely love house music. Thank you very much again.

Future funk, Ed Banger Records, Sumggler's Way,
Just bought an Octatrack last night. The timing on this could not be more impeccable
Congrats on the new job Ricky! Wishing you many more years of hopefully awesome times.
Ricky, congrats on the new gig. You’re literally a master when it comes to the technical side of things but you’re also a genius in the creative realm. I’m hooked!
Ricky, you are a beast. You've sold me on the octatrack workflow. A pleasure watching you work, and a wonderful peak at your creative process. Keep it up!!
I love the groove that drum sound with the reverb tail creates
Vraiment terrible 💥💥 Ça nous replonge dans cette époque légendaire.... Nostalgie quand tu nous tiens. Bravo et merci
Dude, your videos are inspiring and fresh! Keep up the great mixing work man!
Great stuff! Love seeing how you operate that octa so quickly and smoothly. Second nature!
This was super dope and killer track crafted here Ricky! Props and thanks for sharing the knowledge man!
Oh man super dope, I really appreciate these videos thanks for your hard work
Thank you Sr! I do enjoy making French House at home, this is a Master class. Keep the hard work
Sweet man! I also love freaking love Sound Stream / Sound Hack! Dope ass dance floor bombs!
Now just needs some phaser on the sample and some huge pumping sidechain for that French House sound 😊
A tip for minimizing the "air" at the start of each chop: At 1:45 you can see Ricky set the end point for truncating the sample but ended up with a little space before the transient on the next part of the song he was removing. So the sample, after it was truncated, was missing a little bit of time at the end (it was too short). So when you go to chop it into 16 even slices, all those slices are going to be slightly off (dropping sooner than they should compared to the transients). When you're chopping down a sample to just the part you want, if you make sure to set the end point to just right before the first transient on the part you're removing from the end, and then chop to even slices, you're going to end up with them being more spot-on, oftentimes eliminating the need for fiddly editing of each chop afterwards. This might actually be why your zero cross aligning gives weird results sometimes Ricky. I'm assuming the algorithm chops it into 16 even slices, and then shifts each of those slices to the nearest 0 point. If the chops end up so far off the mark when you do an even 16 chops, it would give really inconsistent results (snapping to a 0 point somewhere in the tail of a sound rather than closer to the end/the next transient).
Nice content, always cool to see you working the Octa, didn't even realise this was an ad till the very end !
Good vid Ricky! Got the filter sounding smooth 8) I love that sort of dj sneak, van helden, cassius, daft punk et al era - especially the hip house leaning stuff
Yessss soundstream is sick. Def deserves more credit.
Loving this dude! Was a massive French house fan in the good ole 90's. That little piece of kit is pretty cool as well.
Congrats on the new gig!
BRILLANT !!!!! Thank you
Awesome demo man, nice grooves as well.
love the Sound Stream shout out! he's such an amazing producer
Sick as hell man. Saw this in my recommended, super glad I watched
Great video, as usual! And congrats on the new gig, @Ricky! No shade to Novation, but Elektron is by far my favorite instrument company! Looking forward to seeing what you do with them!
soooo sick dude, great track and congrats on the position
I was just dusting off the OT and thought- okay I need an inspiring video to get me going, just a simple quick task... and here you are, top of the pile. Of course this is Elektron 501 level stuff and each of your headscratch moments is a full day for me... But thanks, man. This is great. Gonna get back on it.
This is soo good! ❤️🔥
Congrats on the new gig! 😎👍🏼

Congrats to your new job! Peace.
Elektron made quite the scoop there. (; Cheers! Always love to watch you mangle samples. Cheers!
congrats on your gig!

DOOOOOOOD!!!! I am DELIGHTED to hear you're now picking up some work for Elektron!! Cenk was a lightning bolt for that company and when he left, I got kind of worried about them. Now that you're there, I can totally see getting back into the mix with Elektron gear. Cheers maing!!! ;)

I got my MC707 master clock and my OT at 64/64 /2 because i never get crazy with micro edits, sample locking every other beat for house music works great, and then you can extend OT from 4 to 8 bars effectively.
Right on Ricky
Lovin' it! Recreating this on my modular using 1010 bitbox sampler, maths, Mbase09 and other shenanigans...
Best of the best atmospheric Chanel …👽

Congrats on the new gig! Also always lovin the positivity in your vids
Love me some French House, one of my favorite electronic music genres next to Deep House and vaporwave. In fact, you should give vaporwave a shot on the Octotrack, would love to hear your rendition of it! Also congrats on the Elektron gig brotha!
Damn ! Ricky !
This made me want an Octatrack so bad. Really like the style of this music.
That's a great demonstration of what the Octatrack is capable of - at the same time, I'm so happy I sold mine. Bought a Roland MC707 instead and even though it's sampling capabilities aren't even close, I love using samples again.
this is killer! love the DAW-less content
Learning much from your videos Thanks
Aww this makes me wanna reinvest in an OT, such a powerful sampler for mangling loops. I used to use mine to sequence and resample all my other gear. For French house I'd build the drums and chops on the MPC3K (can't beat the swing) then resample bars on the OT, re-chop & mangle like you showcased flipping slices with trigs and filtering + repeats with A/B scene crossfades. Basically I'd treat OT as a hardware Ableton. So much fun and happy accidents only hardware can bring you. All about those scene crossfades, genius.
Rickey is the Real Deal!
amazing!
Congrats on the new gig Ricky. I've been listening to a bunch of Japanese minimal house lately and would love to see someone have a crack at the sound. So Inagawa is an absolute beast. The internet has nothing.

Definitely soundstream vibes, which I love. But the blown out bass is very DJ Sneak. I'm not sure if you know the records of Andrés, on KDJ etc... like Moodymann he's great at sampled house. I loved the old KDJ records, but he's been consistently releasing great sampled house records (on Mood n' Groovin). 'Welcoming Committee' is nice, classic sample too. On that Back in the Open E.P, 'Tonight, We Rise' might be your kind of thing too. Great records on Mahogani too, like the gospel 'Praises'.

Deluge for 3 years but tempted to dive into Octatrak. I like the way cryptic workflows become muscle memory. My Tanzbär 2 has weird quirks but I find myself using it all the time with my fingers working faster than my eyes. Deluge is much more visual.

@@InitialDL84 it's not so bad, there's "only" one thing to learn. it's multiplied x8 and the neighbor interactions are fairly intuitive. Some use cases are trivial to config- even "just" for a fancy DJ mixer/FX box at the prices they are these days I think they're well worth it. :3
