Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Let's Learn Something: Project no.17
Good day guys :)
Today i will show to you how i make this compressor that comes from the used truck and car parts that can turn into working compressor
this is also easy to carry and fast to full the tank :)

Hey man we did this on our farm ute when the ac gas leaked out, just put air fittings on the outlet of the compressor, with a pressure switch on the clutch at 120 psi, and man do they move some air! No need for a tank on that thing, blowing up tyres with the engine at 1200rpm, the pressure switch keeps cutting out cause the compressor keeps up so easy! Might be worth trying just one compressor and seeing if you can make it rev a bit faster, cause they make awesome pressure, but they do like some speed.

A failure would likely just result in a loose hose or something. These can be pressure tested to about the same certainty as pro certification by using a pressure washer to pressurize the tank and verify its "stability" at higher pressures.

Nice project... unfortunately, those axial refrigeration compressors circulate a certain amount of oil in a closed AC system and they won't last too long as an air compressor because they eventually push all the oil out of the compressor and into the tank. (I've built a couple of these back in my younger days). The only ones that will work for quite a while, are the older Ford piston type compressors since you can stand them upright and keep the majority of the oil in the compressor. Other than that, nice project, and good to see you used a decent tank that won't blow up when you get a fair amount of pressure in it.😁👍 *EDIT:* Sorry, didn't see all the other comments before I posted this about the oiling. It would still be to your advantage to use regular old piston type compressors, since it will be impossible to keep moisture and contamination out of these axial units. They're just not designed for an open system like this, but you'll find that out eventually.😉

I’ll add this suggestion only because I haven’t seen it yet. The adjuster/tensioner pulley needs to be on the out-travel side (not the pulling side) of the motors’ drive pulley so the belt engages much more diameter of the drive pulley. Less than 90 degrees contact that you have now is not good. Then switch to a slightly longer belt for 180 degrees of engagement. 🤙

As far as pressure vessels go, that one's way over safety specs for the U.S. Even if it does fail, it's not going to be catastrophic with a whole 120 PSI or so. With that volume, the pressure drops to a level that's safe to handle without PPE in just a few seconds when there's a hole the size of a straight pin.

I like the idea, its cool seing people make things from "junk". Just a couple things to be cautious of it corrosion on the inside of the air tank. The old tanks can be rusted inside which makes them weak. And the pipe that was welded into the tank looked to be galvanized. Welding fumes from welding galvanized metal can be pretty bad for you.

Dad built an air compressor in the mid seventies using a old Ford A/C compressor and powered it with a 1/3 HP motor from a discarded washing machine, used a small tank scavenged from a piece of equipment but don't remember now what from, used a pressure switch from a water pump to turn it off and on,was still working good when we sold it 12 years ago.

This is a great idea in theory and looks like a fun project. HOWEVER!!!! No lubrication system for the compressors is a recipe for disaster, and they will likely not run for more than 5-10 hours. MOST IMPORTANTLY those welds will CERTAINLY break and that steel tank will send shrapnel at the speed of sound in every direction and kill anything in a 20 foot radius without giving any warning before doing so. This is a dangerous way to save $300 at Home Depot.

    @jamest.5001

    4 жыл бұрын

@@junso142 I wouldn't worry with a little oil in the tank, the tank accumulates water, and needs draining every day or so, if used alot, we used vacuume pump oil. And occasionally used a bit of non detergent engine oil. You just need separate inputs and outputs to the tank, to help keep oil and water out of the output hose, and a small water separator on the output, or you could use a water separator. Pre-tank, and post-tank, the pre tank will keep oil out of the tank, and idle speed will pump kinda fast, there is a pressure safety switch that may need bypassing, depending on how you plan to activate the clutch, I would either use a racing/ aircraft style covered toggle switch , with light , with a relay at the compressor, something as simple as a 2" pipe can be the tank, I once built one from a window airconditioner, and used a few pieces of 1" iron pipe as a tank, it could be mounted along the frame under a vehicle, 2-4 pieces about 1' - 2' long would hold a bit of air, if it's a long bed truck, maybe 6' long 2" or larger pipe, can hold a bit of air, and can be tapped at both or either end for output. A small oil resivor with a small tube going in the intake side, so it will add a drop occasionally when its running only, so it will slowly suck the occasional drip in. Along with a water separator, it could work kinda well for what it is! I'm thinking about building another larger gas powered one my self, maybe use 3-4 compressors, to hopefully runa sandblaster, they need loads of cfm! But I'd build it just as I described, have a small resivor, with a small tube in the intake of the compressor, to the bottom of a sealed container if oil, with a small 1/8" or so valve allowing the air to seep in and restricted as needed. To get the drip, needed, it's not like a car engine, it doesn't need alot of oil, it's more like a door hinge, as in the oil required, but set the intake air to the oil container, with it running, so it will drip like an IV, but the water separator will catch the extra, hope I helped, any questions are welcomed,

Robert Fisk it’s a great idea in theory but no oil for the compressors is a recipe for disaster, and those welds will CERTAINLY break and that steel tank will send shrapnel at the speed of sound in every direction and kill anything in a 20 foot radius without giving any warning before doing so. This is a dangerous way to save $300 at Home Depot.

You need a larger pulley on your motor. Those air compressors can spin 2000 rpms no problem

@@fabianojones4253 no. Use the same motor. Just change the pulley size on the motor. It changes the gear ratio to spin the compressor faster and building air pressure much faster. Do a Google search for pulley size tool and type in your sizes of pulleys to get the desired rpm. It works great. Plus you will be much happier with the compressor

They do make a compressor like that. It is called a rotary screw compressor. Mostly used in industrial settings like factories and machine shops where air is being used continuously, unlike a piston compressor which is usually used more intermittently such as in an auto shop.

I bet this compressor is a lot quieter than one you could buy at the hardware store. And if one of those compressors fails, another one can be had at a junkyard, instead of replacing the entire machine. The only thing I'd add, is a drain plug in the bottom of the tank. Compressing air will cause water to condense in the bottom of the tank, and you don't want it to start rusting on the inside!

Nice done mate. You should use a larger diameter pulley on the motor. Read a lot comments about " the bomb you made" bellow in the comments, written from the sissies of internet... The sissies trust more the Chinese made compressors they buy, from the compressors made by themselves.

couldn't you use a decicant air dryer on intakes and put a small amount of oil like 2 quarts of compressor oil in the air tank and run a line from the bottom of the tank with a regulator to intake to keep it oilesld
