    Oh, I see your motivation and your power is growing. For me you are the greatest game dev for this little console. I'm sad a little bit that the hype is going down, but I guess in near future it would be back. Good job!

    Hey, it's really cool to see Scrabdackle mentioned here! Intentionally simple art styles are super accessible IMO, that's a great new step to try this time while expanding your skills incrementally project by project! There's a lot of cool and deceptively easy ways to make something simple 'pop' and feel alive with even a simple style like this, too - will be interested to see what you end up with! (Also, I agree with another comment that 3 frames will give you a better result for this style than 2, without really being noticeably more work! It'll help shift the way it feels from 'flickering' to 'undulating' in a good kind of way.)

    Definitely do a video on coroutines, they're kind of interesting and people should get a better idea of how they work. Although it might help to talk about them generically rather than in the context of Lua. For instance, implementing them in C can be fun and they're super easy to understand that way with no language specific features to back them up.

  • @SquidGodDev

    @SquidGodDev

    Жыл бұрын

    There are some Playdate specific coroutine quirks that I might focus on that comes from the update loop itself being a coroutine, so I was thinking of going more specific rather than general actually 😅 but I'll consider the general case

  • @anon_y_mousse

    It really is cool to see your actual talents as a game developer just improve with each little process, in very specific areas. At this point, (and idk how much of this is just editing! heheh) it seems your workflow is really efficient, and you know what parts of your game to lead with and prioritize. Like, even just the card animation stuff already looks great

    Interesting to hear about your favorite devs. They seem like the opposite of many popular indie devs like Eric Barone and Toby Fox, who spend a long time just making one game. I'm not saying that's what you should do - after all, lots of little games seems perfect for the Playdate! Just don't spread yourself too thin churning games out, it's OK to take some time on a larger project! (P.s. I LOVE deckbuilders, and especially short ones, so this is a day-one purchase for me :))

  • @SquidGodDev

    @SquidGodDev

    I think it just fits my motivation style more. It's hard for me to stick to one project since I don't have a concept of a "dream" game. But I think this project will be a little bit of a longer one so maybe it'll strike a middle ground.

  • @SquidGodDev

    Original plan is to undock the crank to pull up your deck to view it, and dock it to put it away, but I'm still thinking through the core game mechanics so I might come up with another use case.

  • @Tuskbumper

    @Tuskbumper

    @@SquidGodDev I think one of the problems with the playdate and it's devs is that the crank is under utilized. I can't say I have any idea to bring to the table but nothing is stopping this game from being playable from other devices if that makes sense

    This is way cool that you are forced to keep your projects small, relatively, because of the limitations of the device itself. Small projects is definitely the way to go to get better quickly. But it’s so hard to stick tooooo 😩 feature creep for the lose..
