You have the steady hand of a surgeon and the patience of a saint. I hope people watching this appreciate the time and skill that went into this piece of art, truly stunning.
watching your videos makes me want to grow out my beard, retire, move to a tiny cabin on a small lake in conclusion, and wake up every morning at 4 am to go fish the only problem is i’m a 19 year old girl i also have the strongest urge to make a woodshop in my garage and i don’t even think i’ve ever touched a saw before

I would like to see your attempt at making a life-size bullfrog lure.. in which the back legs move in a swimming motion as the Frog lunges forward. I think it would be a very challenging lure and I can see how that could be done on paper😌 but I'll let you give it thought.
These videos somehow help me destress for some reason. Something about these videos just help me forget about everything that is bothering me at that time. Keep making videos man. And what you are doing is art and stunningly realistic. Thank you.
Beautiful lure, but I think the open mouth design caused it to be too unstable in the water

Dude, you never fail to amaze. You truly are an amazing artist. I think if you could get it to sink, you could catch some giant musky/pike, because that action is just AWESOME! You could maybe try adding some weight at the nose on your trace to pull it down and if casting is an issue, you could always troll it behind a boat. I think I once said (when I first started watching your videos) that’s you should try playing music or something on the sped up parts. I wholeheartedly take that back. Your videos are just superb as they are, much appreciated, and I enjoy every minute! Thanks man 😎👊 Just a side story... The reason I ended up on your channel (just over a year ago) was because I decided I wanted to try and make some pike lures. I realised that it was going to get pretty costly to start out (tools, power tools, materials etc, and I always go real head on to everything so I know I would have ended up spending a fortune!). So, whilst having a mini marathon watching your videos, a video of a fly being tied by Niklaus Bauer was in my recommended. It was the first time I had ever seen a pike fly and straight away, I realised it was something I could do with less expense (how wrong I was, fly tying is expensive lol). I ended up buying a load of materials, a vice, and started tying pike flies..... then I went out and bought a pike fly combo. This is where I fell in love with fly fishing. It really is a totally different fight and from day one, I have never cast a fly tied by anyone other than myself. Don’t take that the wrong way, I’m no snob, but the feeling of catching a fish on a lure/fly that you have put your heart into making, is one of a kind feeling that I’m always chasing! Anyways, I’m sorry to bore you with this long post and if you’re still here (I really hope it is ok to do this?!), and you would like to check out some of my flies/pike, my insta is @donw3st Peace and tight lines everybody ✌️
I've watched all your lure making videos. This one in particular really highlights what a great artist you are. The paint job alone is crazy realistic, and on top of a meticulous carving......Just beautiful. Great job.
Can you imagine stumbling across Marling Baits' lure collection in an estate sale in 60 years time???? That tackle box would be an international treasure.

Perfect evening wind down video. So relaxing to watch.
So friggin cool man. I swear your videos are like watching Bob Ross, lol. But yeah, I wonder if maybe if you filled the mouth cavity with clear epoxy or plastic...so that you could still see the detail of the mouth, but could shape it to cut through the water better? Also I bet if it could sink below surface, that it might would swim a little better as well. Just some thoughts! Definitely a beautiful piece as always!

The open mouth is not causing much. I’ve made multiple open mouth baits. The shape of the bait itself and the ballast have way more to do with it.
You may have accidentally engineered the perfect rock bass lure ,to me the water action looks like a dying or injured rock bass🤔 isn't that what a predator of adequate size would be going for ?

there is something about watching you make lures that's just relaxing and I can't seem to Stop watching... you have some series talent
Awesome lure dude. I can't imagine the hand cramps it took to carve this bait. But I feel ya', its so hard to design action....But I imagine so much weight just on the bottom could have used some weight on top, maybe half, to counter act the bottom from swinging so much. And you can't really tailor the tail movement if the body isn't right. Regardless, I'd hang that lure on my wall. Your rotisserie needs a little bit of love. Recently, I 3d printed one that uses gears, servos, and an Arduino. I can use like timing and logic. For example, lure weight isn't a factor because it adjusts the up and down pace so they're equal amount of time. Normally, the down is always a shorter time. I've also experimented with a jitter motion that works quite well. Just an idea. Looking forward to the next vid!
I just 44 minutes smiling! Excellent work! Rock Bass are one of my favorite fish to pursue. I have one in the freezer that will be heading for molding and casting. 12-1/8”. Approximately 1 pound 12 ounces! Keep up the awesome work!
I would love to see a saltwater tackle series and see you bring them down to Florida and try them out on a spring trip to the beach.
Watching your videos always make me think of my late grandfather, he was an avid wood worker and fisherman. Your videos bring both together. Keep up the amazing work my friend

That thing is unreal true work of art you are a true master at what you do. Congratz
Just recently started following your work. Dig your easy going attitude and true artistic ability. Pieces like this one...dang man just outstanding stuff.
Also I still think a musky would come up and hit this one too, It kind of moves like a dying fish.
Still a work of art. Well done. Art doesn’t need to be functional 😉
Regardless of the action that lure had. That lure turned out awesome. And I give you much respect not many people can do what you do and put the detail in them. You research everything you can while your building them and that there stands you out from the rest. Your the reason I wanna try my hand at building some custom lures myself
Beautiful job on the Rock Bass! Definitely too much a work of art to use as a functioning bait. You are a very patient master of this art. I enjoy watching so much. My dad used a pocket knife and sand paper and a few very crude tools to make top water baits when I was a kid in the early 1950s. He was a master of that. Most of his were replicas of Heddon lures. Crab Wigglers and Lucky 13’s were his favs. I have a few of his made in later years when he was in his 80s which are not the same as he crafted in earlier years, but are treasures to me. I’ve only been.watching for a couple of weeks so I’m going back to catch up with some of what you have done. All great and inspiring to see how you do this. I have been restoring some old lures and just learning to air brush. Keep it coming. Thanks!👍🏻🇺🇸🐡🐠🐟
How has this video only been out 2 hours and has 4 dislikes? I guess you know you have made it when people migrate to hate ya. Keep up the good work!

I just caught a rock bass at the lake yesterday, never seen such a deep red color, their eyes are spectacular.
This is awesome to watch and knowing it’s happening a hour away from where I live makes much better
You did a good job on the fish. But mainly just wanted to say your dog is beautiful and I badly want a German Shepherd myself.
You should make a largemouth bass mount like a 10lb one
That's a work of art!
Outstanding piece of art! So, the action isn’t what you were hoping for, it’s still an incredibly realistic looking bait. Your detail work is really impressive and We can’t wait to see your next project!
I actually like the action in a smaller version it probably looks like a dying or sick fish rolling around before it goes belly up i would use it for sure
@benfreakincanny

I love how you use second person nouns like you and ya. It give the videos a more personal touch. 😊👍
Omg that rock bass put it on the wall with pride it is a work of art
So for 200k sub video can we get a full hour of nothing but Chip , he is a good pupper
Since this will be a display piece, are you going to darken the mouth since it’s wide open? For added realism, have you considered casting fins in thinner, semi-transparent silicone or soft plastic? Eventually, you may tend towards hyper-realism, and cast each little scale, paint them and glue to the body...teeth...silicone gills under resin gill plates...get nutty with it, bait boy. Really enjoy your videos- from your techniques to your presentation, including cameos of Chip and Chelsea. Great content.
Totally awesome you never seem to disappoint me in your passion for Lure crafting.
Seriously one of the most amazing and realistic looking baits you've made. Definitely one of my favorites you've made for sure.
Just a thought if you could do a carving tips and tricks video marling.
Amazing bait! Next you should try and make a lizard lure🎣
I love the wide hunting action of the bait, and you hit nail on the head when it came to the paintjob.
What a beast! Glad I finally got to watch this video. Just food for thought. A 6-7" squarebill with a jointed largemouth, or smallmouth body would be dope! Looking forward to the next vid.
Looks so real you could fry it and eat it

So creative I have been inspired by your work.
It's an incredible piece man thanks for sharing love your work
We should get a QnA if you don’t mind sharing some things ab yourself
You could make money making world record reproductions, and making molds of them.I made one of a Smallmouth Bass using a pic of Hayes holding it for a pic,and blowing it up,then tracing it out..For a long time,I didn't think they had a smallmouth bass reproduction..But then saw one eventually posted in Archie Phillips taxidermy catalog one year..I'd make world record reproductions, not lures, and get rich,by marketing yourself that way!Your lures are awesome though!I bet they don't have reproductions for them all!Take your redeye Rockbass for instance!!You could sell it as a "world record replica"!
Beautifully bait, just ask Chip. Seriously, that is ART brotherman! Your veracity is refreashing. Thanks for letting me watch an awsome build.
Absolutely love it! The ol' Ozark Googly Eye Bass!
A squid bait would be pretty kool 🦑
I think you should try your hand at a plopper bait.
I do enjoy the art work you do and all the time you spend on one lure. Quite impressive.
@MarlingBaits: Brother, I've been watching your videos for a long time now, and this is still one if the most impressively realistic paint-jobs of any bait you've made to date, next to the bitten zombie bluegill and Mother Catcher. Superb ability and skill good sir!
Can you make a simple lure for pike?
It wouldn't be a bait, but have you ever considered carving a large fish swallowing a smaller fish, or crawfish, or other natural meal?
That is an fantastic piece of art, you are incredibly talented. Also, totally dig your taste in music.
I'm impressed you have a rod heavy enough to cast that thing. I'm more impressed with that work of art!

@@lsedanolg about the size (and even bigger) of that picture. I usually go jigging on rocky bottoms with a crappie minnows for crappies and end up getting at least 3 to 5 of them about that size. Everytime they bite it feels like you have weeds because for some odd reason in Wisconsin they don't fight. I also haven't measured or anything because in my opinion rock bass are almost as ugly as bullhead and rock bass taste nasty. I usually throw them back.
