The best smallmouth bait would be a 12 inch version of this with a 2 inch minnow lure tied 6 inches in front of it. They are so competitive it would slay them...

Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzread.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

Seeing your kid getting bigger is nuts. Something my father told me that I will keep with me forever and felt I'd pass along. "Your kid is going to disappoint you at times in your life, wether it be in big or small ways. And it's ok. That's life. You will laugh with them about it when they have screw ups of their own. It makes the proud moments something you'll remember till the day you die" Also smoking lure!

Thats such a cute video I think! :D Im from Germany and im not a Fisherman or..."Angler" we would say but I am a Carpenter so the wood stuff is more my speed... This is probably the third video of you that I watched and...with all the little giggles and this cuuuuuuute lil human entering your shop... man I love the spirit, the lures are great...keep up that stuff and I hope you enjoy your life like it seems in this piece of Video :D Have a nice week everyone! PS: The carving you do is INSANE, it just looks good and I think I can tell that you have years of experience watching yourself work and try and error the shit out of that wood!

This is, without a doubt, the best produced fishing video I've yet to see. And I'm pretty darn fussy in the video production category. The crafting of the bait, as you noted, was indeed fabulous. But the montage of the techniques used in crafting it, over the VO of the Wiki-read, was perfect. Add the family touches and the usual wry humor, this thing was da bomb!!! Made my Monday, for sure!! And re the rod build possibility, I have the predictive response of... Time to add the next creative skill set. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This is the coolest bait so far. So realistic.
