Making a Plaster Cast of a Portrait with Clay Mold
This has been the way in which I have made many of my past works - sculpting - anything - and then taking this sort of "print" from it with clay. Both the bag and the gaps of clay create surreal shapes that may resemble half-way restored algae formations on an object that has been in the sea for some time.
This process doesn't take a lot of time all together, but only some patience.

I'm working on more videos on this topic and going through possible problems and tricks that can improve casting skills of absolute amateurs, too!

Pretty remarkable process, with undeniable results! I can't imagine having the patience to do this like you do, but it's a ton of fun to watch. The "unearthed from the sea" concept is also pretty cool! Shout-out to Frederick Chopin, although I think most of the pieces were in different keys from the original.
Lovely, thank you Magdalena.

Thats your own face. I use plaster. Cast in wet sand, then carve the face. Nice work, thanks

Thank you! 😊
Very interesting, I've never seen this method before. Have you tried with oil based clay that has been warmed to make it soft, this would be unaffected by the water in the plaster, so might work even better? Many thanks for sharing.

Yes - plasticine actually. It still traps a lot a tiny bits of plaster, and I like to keep it clean and use for sculpting figures (on armature) up to 30-40 centimetres tall - and thank you 🙂 I must admit - I'm also sometimes lazy to warm plasticine up often. I add vaseline every now and then to make it softer even in room temperature.
