Today in the shop I am making a Toy Box for Devon's daughter. We use a single sheet of ply wood and some fun hardware to give this a soft close and a hidden compartment in the bottom to make it that much more magical. We had to put this build on hold for a bit, and after a few modifications to our original ideas, finally have gotten it finished. This is a fun design and Devon's daughter enjoys it for sure.

Put micro RFIDs on/in the toys. If they aren't checked back in before bedtime, the toy box automatically plays the Clean up! Clean up! Kids song.

I love that when you put the magnetic false bottom in, I thought of JUMANJI when the music stopped and started when you open and closed it. lol

If you lower the attachment point on the gas cylinder there will be constant force on the lid. The latch would hold it closed until released.

That's a brilliant box, love the top too. I wonder if his wee one will do what mine does with her box. Climb inside and shut herself in... 😁

Exactly what I would have done. Toys on the floor, myself in the box. It's a professional hide and seek tactic.

Maybe try a spring for auto closing gates. Can be installed to open instead of close and is a much stronger spring.

How did you deal with the pinch point on the back of the lid?

It hasn’t been an issue. We though about just making a cushion to sit on top, and double as a bench, but that’s not needed really, since Devon’s daughter is only two.

I had a bigger version as a kid and I would throw most of the toys out and use it as a fort. Take a flashlight inside and close the lid.

I just did a review on the 50”-100” cutting guide on my channel. For $40 it’s well worth it. I also have the cutting guide you were using and it tends to be a little sloppy on the final cut. Great video!
