What a great video, these types of skills need to be reintegrated into the lives of our youth. The modern world is losing what is fundamental, and intrinsic to survival, and human value. Thanks for putting yourself out there.

dog chews, or buy the soup bones in the supermarket...score the bone where you want to split it (with flint or a file), then boil it, while it's still warm put the bone on a hard surface and place the knife on top where you want to split it - hit it with a hammer or a rock like you would split firewood...if you scored it right, it will split where you want it

I enjoyed the video, thank you. But it did leave me with one question I hope you can answer for me. You cut the groove's in there at a downward angle. Why was this done and not done at a 90 degree to the spear shaft? I'm looking forward to seeing step 2. Again, thanks!

bone is much easier to work and takes far less skill

A cheap hacksaw or coping saw will work just fine. Looks like he might have been using a broken piece. But you can buy chunks of cow femur at pet stores as dog treats

@@cameronflack2254 I’ve used an angle grinder before, but it took more than one cut and still didn’t turn out as “ready to go” as that blank did. The finished points have turned out good though. I’ve always used round files to put serrated edges on mine, whether they’re spearpoints, bone knives, or arrowheads. They cut through flesh much more easily that way.

@@campsiteministries sounds fun. My only experience is using bone for knife handles (im a blade smith, not a primitive tool expert) if youre using abrasive cut off wheels, be careful cutting anything organic. I've HEARD (not seen it first hand) that organic material can get gummed up and cause a critical failure of abrasive wheels.
