    That God our friend here survived all these electrical accidents.. it was said that Nikolai Tesla as a teenager survived when being struck by lightning . Many think that might have rewired his brain cerebrally making him a genius. I wonder what struck Einstein to make him a genius? That Einstein got some wild hair might have stuck it in a lamp socket. So think that all this AC power and contraptions invented with this power we could thank Nikolai. Is our very smart and lovable friend on this channel is trying to achieve the same thing as Nikolai doing his near death experiences for all to watch on KZread please be careful out there

    @bskull3232

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@DK-sg3oe With a parallel plate capacitor, you can apply any polarity to it. With an electrolytic capacitor, no. Those capacitors are called electrolytic for a reason. Not because they electrolysis during normal operation (that would be a battery), but because electrolysis was used to manufacture them. You see, for a parallel plate capacitor, the thinner the dielectric, the more capacitance you get, so you want a thin dielectric. However, thin dielectrics have troubles adhering to conductor surfaces, so engineers came up with an idea, to grow the dielectric right on the conductor. In a typical aluminum electrolytic capacitor, the dielectric is a thin layer of aluminum oxide grown on top of a piece of aluminum foil. When the capacitor was first manufactured, the foil was rolled up and soaked in the electrolyte and at this moment there are no dielectric yet. Then, they gradually apply voltage on the terminals, which oxides the anode, forming a thin film on it. This process is called forming since forms the dielectric. The higher the forming voltage is, the thicker the dielectric is, thus the less the capacitance but the higher the rated voltage are. When you apply a reverse voltage too fast, the supposed anode becomes the cathode, and electrons flows towards it, thus reducing it back to aluminum. While in the same process the supposed cathode picks up an oxide layer, because the process is too fast, the oxide layer has too much defects making it not insulating. Now you have a capacitor with no dielectric, so you are essentially boiling water in it with resistive heating. A bang is thus inevitable.

He grabbed it with both hands, if he had grabbed each electrode without the circuit shorting or breaking, high voltage could have went through one hand, into his heart and out the other. I've heard of a student that died putting together a Jacob's ladder for science fair, so the danger is real. Edit: just as a bonus, If you play it back at 25% speed, you can see him bare his teeth in a brace before he touches it in a last second 'I shouldn't be touching this' realization Glaaad you dodged that cosmic bullet, the world still needs your eyebrows
