Graphite and Its Awesome Properties
Graphite is one of the many interesting forms of carbon. And carbon I love! It morphs into coal, diamond, graphite, graphene, fullerenes, nanotubes, buckyballs and more, all with their own set of fantastic properties. Except for CO2, that causes global warming. But graphite is awesome!

@Mu Aries I'm Native-American so you're just a racist boomer.
I'm a welder, and we use carbon rods coated with copper for air arc gouging. Because the Carbon can withstand high temps, the steel becomes molten. Then you introduce a high pressure air stream that causes rapid oxydization that blows a gouge right into steel. It's super loud, and creates a huge amount of toxic fumes too.

When you were touching together the two graphite electrodes, the way they burnt up and made a squeaking noise suddenly reminded me if a metal fabrication process known as air carbon arc (ACA). You use a roughly 3/8" carbon electrode with compressed air and like 300 amps DC to just blow big chunks of molten metal in your steel.
Suddenly carbon arc welding, and old carbon rod burning spotlights make so much more sense. 😳

Yep. Around here the phrase was "dot-not-feather" to refer to citizens of India.

Matt Stum Here they call them Hinduists Fuck knows why because that refers to religion but...

The word Hindu and Indian have the same etymology, and Persians called it Hindustan before anyone called it India. The H was only dropped off because the Greeks weren't / aren't big on pronouncing H, especially as the first letter of a word.

Baiko I didn't know that, good info :D But still my point stays the same, since the words have evolved and now mean different things. In fact, Hinduist is not recognized with a definition of "an inhabitant of India". People just use it.

Wow, you can even see on the recording how bright those arcs are :o
My mother literally had those same gardening gloves. I don't know if she still has them, though she never made any arcs with them using graphite.
