Making a Frame by Frame Animation
Фильм және анимация
This video offers a step by step explanation on how I developed and created this short 2D frame by frame animation by looking at each key stage of the Production Pipeline.
Software used to create this animation was the 'Rough Animator ' app for animating and After Effects for Compositing.
Backgrounds were created using Windsor and Newton Professional Water colours and Daley Rowney Smooth Water colour paper.

This was great 👍. Very nice job both in your explanation and your animation. I’ve been doing a lot of frame by frame animations and although I’m not anywhere near your level, I do go through a lot of the same steps and know how time consuming it can be but the results are usually worth it when you see your idea come into fruition. Maybe one day the actual animation in my cartoons will be as smooth and life like as yours. Good use of the principles of animation. Keep it up and thanks for sharing.

Wow how long will a frame by frame completed video take assume for a 5mins video
@MarkDaviesArt
3 жыл бұрын
Very good and tough question to answer as there are a lot of variables that need answering before I can calculate a production time. The cartoon you have seen me create here I think took me a week on and off to produce. So technically speaking if I was to make a 5 minute film like this it would roughly take 15 weeks. (Roughly 4 months animating) To be honest though if a client was to say I want something like this but in 8 weeks, it would be possible, just means you got to be a little creative when making the film, plan it accordingly so not every scene has lots of animation, simplify the character designs and drawing style, plan to re-use scenes and sequences to reduce the work load. With a bit of planning and inventiveness their is usually a workaround to suit a specific deadline.

Depends
i wanna know more technical... how many drawing you put on in between? and how many total frame you draw for that animation?
@MarkDaviesArt
2 жыл бұрын
There is no specific number I put inbetween in key frame, it entirely depends on how fast or short you want position A to position B to be. Regarding total number of frames for this animation, I will need a little time to have a look at the file and find out, not too sure off hand. I will get back to you on this question later.
Thanks. Roughly, what is the time taken for the complete process ?
@MarkDaviesArt
2 жыл бұрын
Id say this scene was made in about 3 to 4 working days (24 to 32 hours). This includes everything from story development, animation, background design, compositing.
The card was great, but there is no faster method?

@@MarkDaviesArt oh thank you.
How much time it takes to make this kind of 3 min animation video?
@MarkDaviesArt
7 күн бұрын
@@Sunji.Hossain it kind of varies really as it all depends on the style of the art and the quality of the animation. You also have to bear in mind the other tasks as well. The story for the film will need writing, storyboard and animatics need creating. All art will need designing. Then after animation you gonna need to composite and edit. But to answer your question, in this style featured in this video I as a solo animator could proberbly make a 3 minute video in 3 to 4 months. This question is very common and I have already began making videos that will cover different animation styles (simple to detailed art and animation) and recording how long each production takes to make.
How long do you spend your time to make this short animation?
@MarkDaviesArt
2 жыл бұрын
A tough question to answer, I made this animation on and off whilst travelling to work on the train, created mostly on an iPad. But if I was working on this full time I imagine it would take me roughly 3 to 4 working days but that’s everything from script/ animation/ background creation, compositing… the lot.
Do i need to buy a pen and tablet for this steps you ve provided or i can go with simple paper also????????????
@MarkDaviesArt
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tale Duet. The steps I have provided will work with both Digital and Traditional. Grab a stack of paper and use to rough out the animation and then build it up. Then test out your animation with a line test, capturing each frame you have drawn and then place into a timeline and watch the sequence to see if the animation is working. (I would use a stop motion app on your phone for this they are cheap, and you can photo each frame on your phone and it will immediately appear in the apps timeline). If you happy with the results grab another stack of paper and then retrace over each roughed out frame to make your final animation. Then either hand colour each frame (some people do) or scan each image into a computer and colour them in. I will make a video of this soon as think It would be a benefit to show people my approach to traditional animation.

WHY IS THIS SO UNDERWATER?!
Which animation software do you use?
@MarkDaviesArt
3 жыл бұрын
In all honesty I use various software depending on what I’m going to be making. My personal go to software is Toonboom Harmony and Rough Animator. However I do also use Adobe Flash and TVPaint for animated film work, I use Spine heavily for 2D Game animations and Blender/ Maya for CGI animation. To be honest once you learn one type of animation software, it doesn’t take long to know how to use others. Just a matter of getting your head around where all the buttons are. The knowledge you learn from one is more or less interchangeable with all the others. I can’t speak enough about Rough Animator software for frame by frame animation, it feels great to use and is so cheap. I prefer roughing out my animation in this than any other software. www.roughanimator.com I also stumbled upon a new software release recently that is free, it’s called Tahoma 2D, it’s actually a clone of Open Toonz but after having a little play yesterday it seemed very interesting and would be beneficial to anyone wanting to learn animation as it offers the ability to create 2D digital animation and hand drawn paper animation. tahoma2d.org

Mr. Mark. What software do you use to make the rough animation?
@MarkDaviesArt

For this example I create both the rough animation and the final clean up animation in the same software which is called ‘Rough Animator’. Available for pc and Mac and IPad. Cheap as chips to buy. I actually use this software to rough out scenes to be completed in other 2d software such as toonboom AND I also rough out scenes in this before taking them into CGI (3d animation) as well.

toon boom or adobe animate .. which is better ? and please upload more videos like this
@MarkDaviesArt
3 жыл бұрын
Short answer is my preferred choice is Toonboom Harmony, it does an amazing job of both traditional animation/ cutout animation and puppet animation. Offers both vector and raster drawing tools so I can create both nice hand drawn arty films AND sharp vectorised corporate films. So basically I can accept any project from a client and not be restricted by the software. I would like to say though that Adobe Animate (flash) is a good bit of kit and if combined with After Effects you can create some high end looking productions (I heavily used Flash between 2003 and 2010) but I just find Toonboom has better drawing tools, is extremely versatile and speeds up a production significantly. I will be be making more vids buddy so keep your eye out for new releases, due to work commitments I can’t be as regular as say once a week BUT I will be uploading new ones as and when I can 👍🏻👍🏻
