Currently experimenting with both techniques throughout animations. You can definitely see the difference when you go back and test the animation. Using both helps with picking out what flows well and what doesn't and allows for you to go back and make any changes that might need to be made! Great video, very helpful!

Thanks mate. Ah the eternal question! I need to investigate some of the cheaper software options out there... I use Tvpaint, but thats very expensive. If you have access to the Adobe suite AnimateCC is a good option. I've seen a few inexpensive things around like flipaclip and roughanimor, but I haven't used them so I can't tell how good they are. Blender is free if you want to try something in 3d as well :)

Milt Kahl: Keys > Extremes > Breakdowns > Straight-aheads on individual parts However, Richard Williams also said "Milt Kahl": Keys > Extremes > Breakdowns > Breakdowns between Breakdowns and Extremes > Straight-aheads on individual parts ...At the moment, I'm doing keys > breakdowns > very rough inbetweens (on the main/leading part/action) to "pencil test", throwing away drawings, discovering the exact spacing I want before tie-down... then creating a new folder/charts to focus solely on, say, the arms... ^ Working this way, like Milt, I find every piece moving independently from each other; unrestrained, unrestricted from being on the same timeline/chart; the head/body's breakdown is in a different position than the arm's breakdown position..... in addition, having the arms, (or whatever) in a separate folder allows you to move it along the timeline, experimenting with the timing... not locked into a single drawing..... So far, again, I find this more natural, fluid than robotically hitting keyframes, breakdowns. ...But it's also a giant pain in the ass!... Like James Baxter says in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKyHttSAaa3PXZc.html I, like he, at that moment, still do not understand how Milt did it with a single paper & chart. Watch Milt's characters limbs... so fluid... not robotic (like most TV animation, arriving dead-on the breakdowns/keys)... it's shocking when you realize the difference: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4WisrNvgaWufKg.html
