Making a Custom Lightsaber Display!
Ғылым және технология
We are completely smitten by the technology the Star Wars fan community have designed and incorporated into lightsaber prop replicas, which blow away the toys we had growing up. Norm shows off the features of a Saber Bay assembled hilt complete with Neopixel illumination and programmable effects, and sets about designing a custom laser-cut stand to put the hilt on display. A fun project to kick off the weekend, and next up will be weathering the prop!

I’m going to say what we are all thinking. That is one of the coolest lightsaber stands I have ever seen.

hi Adam, " let me know when its time to build a real light saber", lol, very cool!, :)
I really like the circuitry visible on the edge. It looks like the stripes painted on the R1-G4 droid from New Hope!! :D
"Pretty pleased" Norm it's incredible! And that light bleed on the top adds to it.
Damn Norm, that stand is really nice! Quite blown away with how good it turned out. Superb work!
Still waiting for Adam to deliver on his promise of his own custom lightsaber as a one day (+) build!
flipping the LEDs worked perfectly! looks so cool
Nice!! Literally working on my saber so this was just in time.
Love this, looks amazing! Getting my first sabre soon and would love to have something as cool as this to display it on.
This is so sick! Amazing neopixel build and such a beautiful stand :) That Luke Saber is so perfect!
Hi Norm, we made lightsabers at school last year to sell for charity. I liked your design so much that I used it to make a stand for our lightsabers, I hope you don't mind ;-)

That’s awesome to hear!
great job on this stand. It really adds to the saber. It gives me a lot of ideas of what I can create.
Very happy to be mentioned again in Tested :D Thank you!! The stand is really cool!
Nicely done, Norm. That's a beautiful stand.
Beautiful job Norm!! looks great!
Wow.. Looks awesome!
You really nailed it with this one Norm! Good job!
That would be a really cool wall mount with the blade on and on imo
Me: "Another fine addition to my collection" also Me: "I want more, but I know I shouldn't" Me regardless: "Another fine addition to my collection" Edit: my bank and GF are not impressed.
Looks amazing... great job Norm.
Should 3d print a Luke's severed hand lightsaber stand.

Best idea of the year!
Great job norm, looks awesome
Denis Lukyanov only makes a replica of Luke's TLJ Creepy Uncle hilt not the ROTJ V1 Cave Scene Hilt. The grenade section features thicker rings, the d-ring is in a different position, the PCB card is shinier and golder, the box rails are thinner and sit flush with the box, and the emitter is taller ala the Obi-wan ANH hero. Basically it was based off a replica of Luke's ROTJ V1 not the actual ROTJ V1 prop.
That is a really nice piece. Well done!
Looks freakin' fantastic! Congrats Norm :)
That came out great, Norm. Very cool!
Norm that is freaking awesome. Nice job sir!
Awesome Saber
Dude that looks dope as hell. That base looks awesome
That is beautiful!
That is the Creepy Uncle. Luke's hilt from TLJ. One of the nicest hilts I have ever held

Man, this looks dope!

Very cool great work!
WOW that awkward moment when Norm's "One Day Build" turns out just as good (if not better!?) as one of Adam's! Nice work, Norman. Smart approach to the materials and design elements.
I was about to make a a smoothswing comment until I clicked your description and saw that you do have a CFX in that saber, if you haven't accessed the menu and swapped to a different font I highly recommend it. Since smoothswing came out a couple years ago now, an algorithm written by thexter, the realism of lightsabers has been taken to a whole other level.
Hey Norm!! Love the content. We used to use a long lighting standard that would light up under high tension power lines, before we found out that it was not good for us or the environment.
That's really nice.
Nicely done, Norm. :)
Really beautiful 😍💚💚
Cool design
It looks like a Cyberpunk stapler. I want one.
Actually there’s a kind of acrylic board that guided light, you should give it a try! Love this video!
Great design Norm! The base is a mashup of Lukes speeder and an Apple phone. ✌
Very Nice. You should get a blade plug so it has a pretty light show.
The pattern carried by Obi Wan in IV, similar to yours here, was my very first CAD assembly project I did in SolidWorks when I was in tech school for machining. I had to do a great deal of research to get any dimensions at all, as the real prop was cobbled together from things like a rifle grenade, a sink faucet knob, and I believe even a part from a gas turbine. It was a fun and very rewarding project. Unfortunately some of that wasn't machinable with what I had available at school, like the wind vane from the grenade. One of these days I intend to physically make it though. :)
That is a new Hade gift for people with kids. Those noise it makes.
Totally smashed it Norm, great job! That circuit reflection is the icing on the cake 👍
Ooooh! Nice. And the reversed LEDs are the crowning touch! Happy accident. Looks brilliant!
Try inverting it , make the acrylic part wood and the wooden part acrylic so you get the most out of your acrylic and also you can engrave patterns on acrylic and it catches the light differently and it looks like this really cool almost like a circuit board its really futuristic looking aswell as like a holographic effect
Adam, please tell me that "A Destructive Wedge thru Memory Lane" wasn't some of the most fun you ever had on that show.
I started building sabers just as EL Wire was phased out and High powered LED's were on the market. Crystal Focus was the one and only good sound modules produced.
Very nice. And looking forward to you talking about figures with Jedha Patrol tonight!
Haha who says I stopped using a tape measure as a makeshift lightsaber
I would love to have one of these lightsabers mounted to my wall as a light piece.
Norm, absolutely beautiful work! One of the most innovative light saber stands I’ve ever seen! You mentioned that you might upload the design files? I would definitely be interested in trying it out myself!

Thanks Norm. Very Cool. I am now thinking of building a stand for my son's saber, and would like to start with your design as a basis for my own custom stand. ... But I couldn't find a link to any shared ai files??
Cool stand. But lets up the game. The display base but with the light saber floating on some form of magnetic field.
Neopixel blade activated then taken off just to see the hilt still illuminated, a set of LEDS in hilt... MONUMENTAL!!!!💯🔥🔥🔥🔥 #Jedimindtricks
Hey that is truly unique I love the mix.. thinking of what u said about layering.. how about spacing layers of clear or opaque so they kinda reflect the ringed part of the saber
Does the framerate in this seem to change randomly to anyone else?

I'm going to make one for my battlebot. Cool idea.
Galaxy's Edge lightsaber display just looks like a stapler....a "fancy" one
For some reason I thought it was a screen projector shaped like a light saber.
Thumbnail: soldering iron holder
I think the stand and base could incorporate some design to evoke a scene. Like have part of the hilt buried in ice to evoke the scene when Luke is in the ice cave with the wampa
Wat you need to do is make the lightsaber as a projector for your phone to a large screen.
COOL!!!!!
Would be cool if the holder was Luke's hand showing robotics inside it
Nice
Did you make the files public? I don’t have a láser cuter but might try to do a similar stand with my 3d printer and different color filament . It looks amazing
Is that Hot Toys Steve Rogers on the left? 😀
3 D print a socket that the base of the light saber fits into.
I wish the SVG was available for download :(
as someone who doesn’t watch star wars, I thought this was a screwdriver (doctor who) lol
A great video as always, and lightsabers are ALWAYS cool. But what's with the framerates? It was very distracting when it dropped.
If we had toys like that growing up you'd probably be wearing brown robes right now. 😁
*who will now take this design as presented and instead of using acrylic make it truly hard core by replacing it with custom articulated and crafted/honed Pyrex and simulated beskar steel...and for the blue creating a mosaic using chips of lapis lazuli...* *expensive build absolutely but it would be very beautiful and promote great amounts of geek envy*
Ironically looks like it belongs on picards desk
Uh, how do the layers hold together? Is there a glue of some kind???
Omg please make me one, how much would it cost ?
What adhesive did you use to connect all the parts?
I wonder how you would design a Sonic Screwdriver stand.
The link dosen't have a completed prop?
The thumbnail looks like a solder stand....
What kind of glue did you use?
Hey Adam. What if a tall building collapses, and there are people on the very top, will there be a chance for them to survive while it is coming down?
