Making a Custom Lightsaber Display!

Ғылым және технология

We are completely smitten by the technology the Star Wars fan community have designed and incorporated into lightsaber prop replicas, which blow away the toys we had growing up. Norm shows off the features of a Saber Bay assembled hilt complete with Neopixel illumination and programmable effects, and sets about designing a custom laser-cut stand to put the hilt on display. A fun project to kick off the weekend, and next up will be weathering the prop!

Denis Lukyanov only makes a replica of Luke's TLJ Creepy Uncle hilt not the ROTJ V1 Cave Scene Hilt. The grenade section features thicker rings, the d-ring is in a different position, the PCB card is shinier and golder, the box rails are thinner and sit flush with the box, and the emitter is taller ala the Obi-wan ANH hero. Basically it was based off a replica of Luke's ROTJ V1 not the actual ROTJ V1 prop.

I was about to make a a smoothswing comment until I clicked your description and saw that you do have a CFX in that saber, if you haven't accessed the menu and swapped to a different font I highly recommend it. Since smoothswing came out a couple years ago now, an algorithm written by thexter, the realism of lightsabers has been taken to a whole other level.

The pattern carried by Obi Wan in IV, similar to yours here, was my very first CAD assembly project I did in SolidWorks when I was in tech school for machining. I had to do a great deal of research to get any dimensions at all, as the real prop was cobbled together from things like a rifle grenade, a sink faucet knob, and I believe even a part from a gas turbine. It was a fun and very rewarding project. Unfortunately some of that wasn't machinable with what I had available at school, like the wind vane from the grenade. One of these days I intend to physically make it though. :)

Try inverting it , make the acrylic part wood and the wooden part acrylic so you get the most out of your acrylic and also you can engrave patterns on acrylic and it catches the light differently and it looks like this really cool almost like a circuit board its really futuristic looking aswell as like a holographic effect
