Your videos are so fun to watch! This one struck me as a fun DIY option. I definitely don't have the tools for it, but it's still an intriguing demonstration - creating something awesome from something so ordinary :) Don't know if you're a "Parks and Recreation" TV show fan, but at the end of this video, I couldn't help but think of Ron Swanson creating those two rings from a light fixture sconce: "It's not rocket science. Any moron with a crucible, acetylene torch, and a cast iron waffle maker could have done the same. People who buy things are suckers."

What about Canadian currency? Our coins would look pretty snazzy as rings, especially the extinct penny.

Your a pretty sharp guy Pat . Im surprised you went for that glue it the adapter thing . Thin the adapter , Split it all the way though . Split 2 more equally spaced places 7/8ths of the way through . It will collapse on your coin in your three jaw and you can save the glue for your other stuff . Which is very freaking cool .

Caution: a silver quarter (pre 1965) cannot be heated as hot as the composite coins - it distorts the surface. Found out the hard way. Just heat it until it starts showing a little pink (with the lights off).

T Boyd Moore a neat trick is to mark it with a sharpie before annealing and remove it from the heat when the ink disappears.

Good job man. Don't take this the wrong way, you make some cool stuff and all but that's a pretty big stretch to call that "the machinist way".... I mean you're running a Chinese mini lathe with the fixture running out about 50 thou in the chuck there. I have a 15HP VMC, 5'x10' cnc burn table and two 10hp 20" lathes that I've been running for a lil over 5 years now and I would not yet call myself a true machinist. That's not a title you just pick up. Please take no offense to this, just being honest. Keep up the good work!

I am a professional machinist so I have an understanding of the definition, and yes he is technically a machinist as the definition of one is: a person who operates a machine, especially a machine tool. Another way to create a ring like this would be to hammer the outside of the coin then drill a hole, and dermal the internal out to desired size. This is good way to create such a ring.

That's not a title you just pick up with a Chinese mini lathe overnight, no matter what the technical definition is. IMHO
