You're gonna have so much fun with that little lathe!
This is one of the most adorable marriage traditions we know of. Always love seeing the rings each year!
You should make a ring tree to display your retired wedding rings. There's many kinds that could be made to add to them, both made from wood and/or wire.
The mini lathe opens the door to so many possibilities that complement woodworking! I have a mini lathe (actually 2) and a mini mill (LMS Seig) sharing my woodshop, and they see plenty of use! Lesson learned the hard way: always part off as close to the chuck as possible! The first time I ever parted on my Grizzly G0765, I was too far away, cutting aluminum, and the stock climbed the parting blade. It immediately locked the machine up, shattered the blade (read projectiles!), and destroyed the gears in the headstock! It’s also a good practice to start your cut at the desired location and cut in a little way then back out and cut an overlapping groove adjoining the first. Just keep alternating from one to the other to reduce the friction on the parting tool. May the swarf be with you!
I was having a hard time keeping motivated lately. Just hit kind of a rut. Call it what you want, but I found myself getting frustrated with the world around me and blah blah blah (oh, poor me). Then I was listening to some of your older "Making It" podcasts and you talked about the same thing happening to you. The rut I mean. But then you started changing it up and trying new things. I went out and bought some leather and stuff and decided I was going to try to make myself a wallet. I just got done taking a beginners welding class today. You have helped me to realize that I can BUILD the world around me. Your podcasts and videos have become so important to me. Not just how motivating they are, but the honesty you have in them about how you feel at that moment and where you're at. Thank you again for everything you do. I say it a lot, but gratitude is a big part of my life, and I just have to say again that what you do MATTERS.

Wow, thank you Craig. It means a lot to me reading this. Keeps me motivated and is a good reminder of why I make this videos. So thank you! Enjoy the new leather and metal skills!!
Thanks for including the links to the KZread research that you did on the machine and how to use it. Very helpful. 👍👍👍
Absolutely stunning! I love how the copper filings and epoxy inlay looks! Very creative and clever.
a unique way to celebrate a wedding. happy anniversary!
This is by far my favorite anniversary tradition. It's a fun and meaningful way to recognize the passing of time together. I always look forward to seeing what new creation you come up with. Do you ever discuss the design together or do you surprise her every year? Happy anniversary and thanks for sharing!
Loved the video Dave. Your first no-lathe veneer wood ring was one of the first videos of yours I ever watched (and tried myself!). Always look forward to the ring video every year.
These came out beautifully, David. Thanks as always for the great content!
Brilliant David, best rings yet.thanks for sharing.
Watch all your videos and these are always among my favorite. Would love to see your display case as well. Keep up the great work!
That lathe/resin/light/spin til set technique is so cool! Really nice job with these.
I have been making wooden rings, with and without stainless steel cores, for about nine months now. I buy my cores off of Artisan Craft Supplies USA. It is quite interesting to see how it's done on a metal lathe. Love to see more of your work!
Thanks for taking us all along again in this great tradition!
They came up great. Good stuff.
Love the ring videos. They’re always interesting. Thanks!
That technique with the copper shavings was freaking cool! Happy Anniversary! Always love your different rings you make.
Those are super cool. I have been thinking about a mini lathe. Thanks for making this look accessible.
WOW, those look amazing
These might be my favorite of your many years of rings. Great job, David!
Great vid, great machine recommendation, great project. Thanks.
Those are beautiful!!
This is such a cool tradition! They turned out awesome.
Dave I love that you and your wife do this! Very cool. I totally would have bought this at a jewelry store had I seen it 8 years ago when I got married. Awesome.
Holy crap that turned out so nice!
Fantastic work, Dave! Beautiful rings! 😃 I really liked the mini lathe! It's already in my wishlist! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I make rings a lot at home, I always bore from the outside to the inside to avoid chatter. My suggestion for a ring display is getting a set of antlers. You can use one side for Kelly, and one side for you, and just slip them on as you retire them.
I really like this year's rings - although I think I say that every year! I like the effect of the cooper dust!
As always, one of my favourite videos of the year.
the retired ring gallery should also have a picture from each year to go with the rings... that way when you look back at them, you not only see the rings, but some memory from that year.
I love the ring videos!
Great video! The rings turned out amazing!
Love the ring videos.
So happy to hear Mrs. DW is still attached. Haven't seen her in a long time. Cheers! C
Very nice job turned out very well there. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
Blondiehacks is an awesome channel. She is so good at explaining machining!
Another great video man. I know i've heard you talk about how much you (and Dan) care about your cinematography but I just wanted to say this video is especially beautiful. Idk if you changed up your lighting or were just trying something new but it looks really really great man keep it up!
Man, those turned out beautiful!
These videos are my favourites ☺️
Very nice!!
Beautiful rings.
Nice machine! Nice rings!
Awesome video - was looking forward to see this one after you mentioned it on the podcast. Also, really like the simple and clean thumbnail. It is good to see that everyone is not adopting the "surprised AF" pose/expression in their thumbnails!
Very interesting video mate 🙏Thanks:))
KZread did this with a lot of the channels. Beautiful rings the design is eye popping.
I️ am pleased with the Swag bandsaw table that I️ first saw on your channel. Maybe I️ NEED a mini lathe!!!
New camera? Damn sharp footage. Love it! 🤜
Great film, gorgeous rings. Congrats on getting a metal lathe...for lathing. : ) Cool, never seen one with digital readouts. I'm sure you'll use it for your go carts. Mahalo for sharing! : )
I have all 3 books Great Buy!!
The annual ring video is always interesting, this is my favorite one so far but I'm a big stainless steel fan for jewelry
Great...now I need to buy that lathe
I am a metal worker. I have a full metal machine shop in my home shop. Welcome to the party Dave! They look great!
I was saying to myself, "Isn't it that time of year again?" 😁 Another great iteration.
Rings look great especially for your first project on the new lathe!

David you could make that ring stand modular, so depending on how lucky you feel you could add a new section each year. If I had one I'd have to start cutting it down.
Awesome ring, love the idea with the filings in epoxy! YT showed me your videos just as always 😃 /Lars

Go get yourself a copy of Machinerys Handbook. It is a pricey volume but you have reference speeds and feeds for machining any sort of material. It is a reference book you will keep for many years.

Noted, thanks!!
David I’m not sure if this was your first metal turning project but your fundamentals looked really good and once again you blew last years ring out of the water
Dave, how about a box similar to how collectors show off golf balls or shot glasses? I'm thinking making each row as a separate shelf, each one hold five rings. Then as you start the next five years together, you can just make another 5-ring shelf and glue/attach to the top or bottom of the assembly. Nice job on the rings, they look awesome
Filing the copper to make dust was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I gotta get on that. I can't believe I never thought of it, and now I'm thinking "Oh wow, I have stainless, copper, brass, and other goodies... What a cool dust collection I could make!"
They look great. I wonder how it would look with brass instead of copper.
These are really lovely! Do you or your wife have a favorite? Thanks for sharing. And I am getting ready to try to make your Colorado Bandsaw box from your book.

The boring part starts at 3:30. My favourite. :D
I'm so excited for you! Beautiful work on the rings and that lathe is going to be so much fun. Think of all the spacers you can make now for the go cart. Just wondering, why not the precision Matthews lathe? I _just_ ordered that and yeah, back ordered stuff stinks....

Nice ....
Hey brother, you should make a 3D tree of life stand that you can hang the rings off of the branches to display them. The older rings would of course be on the lower branches. A tree of life to show the growth of your marriage.
lathe will come in handy for kart racing. Simple things like spacers are easily made on a lathe.

First thing I thought of!!
Very nice, David! Do you display your old rings?(opps, never mind, answered in video) Catch you on the flip, love!
How about making a dresser top tree stand to display your past rings. Maybe put like 25 years worth of branches on the tree? You can make 2 trees if you plan to keep up the tradition for 50 years.
10:21. Yes, youtube doesn't show your new videos..for a while. I had to catch up a bit. Perfect timing, it is all rain here in Canada. Cheers
wow is it that time of year again? seems like only yesterday you made the last ones.
An Infinity Gauntlet of Wedding rings
Are you saying ‘poxy?’ Is this a test, lol?! Excellent copper shaving trick. I’ll keep that in my back pocket.
Dang these turned out great David.

I love the copper inlay! I honestly thought it was sandpaper in the beginning. 😂
Those came out awesome! Beautiful pieces. Makes me want to get a mini-lathe now.... The only issue I have with the video is that, as is tradition, you yell 'Yahtzee' when you part off the piece and you didn't.... I hope Quinn isn't too disappointed...

UV curing resin looks so Sci-Fi
Awesome video (as usual). Also, can I put you down as a reference for my application to be a Chicken Au Pair for Jimmy?
Oh dang! I heard about this on the podcast, but these turned out gorgeously!
What do you guys do with past years' rings?
They look very cool! Is the usage of the copper of any significance, as in: 12,5 years married, since that is called the "copper" marriage? At least, that's what we call it here in the Netherlands?
Dave: I am taking all the necessary safety precautions but that doesn’t necessarily mean I know what I’m doing Me: I think that’s called life You: Silly KZread videos Me: interesting, entertaining, educational, and fun. Don’t sell yourself short man

This is pretty sweet, I would try and avoid making cuts with your compound, but rather use your carriage...the reason being that unless you have indicated your compound in to an exact 0° angle, you'll be cutting a taper rather than evenly taking down the material....the compound is really mainly for cutting tapers and threading and a handful of other useful things....it's nice they put an encoder on that hand wheel to help with precision, but best practice for what you're doing is really to move the entire carriage for radial turning operations...

She won't divorce you; she'll just keep taking "business trips". ;-p Looking forward to the next video. :-) Enjoy your thanksgiving!
Make the display a tree and add more branches as needed.
Your insert tooling is way nicer than high speed steel. At work we call it low speed steel. 😆 You can run carbide inserts like 4 times as hard.
The deal with the subscriptions is that it only gives notifications if the viewer uses the dropdown (that comes down if you hit the bell on PC) and selects ALL notifications, instead of just personalized. I don't know when they put that into effect, but all of my old subs are automatically set to "personalized," causing me not to get any notifications until I change it. It's yet another not-really-an-upgrade that just screws everything up.
How long did it take to knit the hat from retired red shirts? Jokes aside, is this going to be the winter look of yours on the channel?

it just might be!
It looks like you have a lot of movement in your cross-slide as seen at 3:03. I know it's a new tool but it looks like it needs some adjustment to clean that movement up. Perhaps in a few months, once you have had an opportunity to use it a bit more you could do a followup video on the adjustments you had to make.

you should also check out a machinist Joe Pieczynski, I follow both Blondihacks & Joe Pieczynski and have learned sooooo much from them both
Im no machinist, Im barely a wood worker and Lathes scare the hell out of me, but I do know this, if you invest in an Engineers Handbook, that will help to know your feeds and speeds, and what tools are best for what materials, I think
KZread pretty much stopped showing me most of my subscription channels. I look forward to your emails to know when you post.
I love your social media cynicism.
