Nice job and really nice finish out of a mould!
Absolutely incredible what you doing mate well done 👌
The finish looks great 👍
Thanks for the videos! Really good quality. And u r inspiring me to develop my own parts 👊👊
Your videos are really informative and I appreciate the level of detail you give on explaining things along the way. I know you mentioned that people ask exactly how you create your molds. I would love to see your process on that. Keep up on the amazing videos.

@@ajhartmanaero could you or do you have any molds for CTSV Gen2? I am in process of building drag car and no luck finding anything
Love all tips and tricks you give to make the process that much easier for someone to have a go themselves. How long did the whole infusion process take in the end, I couldn't see the clock very well?
yes you are absolutely right, vertical setting is the best against air bubbles !!
Very informative video. Thank you for the details and explaining the why and how of different steps.
I wish I was as good at what I do, as you are at what you do. You are an artisan ♠️

Absolutely I appreciate all your Tips and great 👍 Video's 😎🤙
Amzing bro.. love your work
Should make a video of how you make the molds, very interested in that!!!
Could you go over how you mocked up the original roof panel to make a mould and where your bolt holes would go? Unless your existing car already has the roof cut out. Thanks!
Another great video. 👍
Awesome information thank you
Great video. What is it that you spray on before each layer, some glue of some sort?
great work sir
Awesome 👍 job guys
Perfekt.. i build the same roof for my 92' civic.. but your roof looks so pretty smoot clean after you take it out of the mold.. do you don't take a topcoat layer for UV resist?
Hi, great job !! Which mold coating do you use ?
How is carbon fiber waste disposed of? Thanks for these videos, I would like to make an MG Midget body.
Is it possible to make a mold from the painted hood (plug) of a car without damaging the finish? Would multiple layers of wax, then PVA be enough to protect the paint? Could you use polyester GEL coat or would an Epoxy GEL be less damaging? I guess, if the wax-PVA layer is perfectly applied, there would be no problem. Great informational videos, best on the web. Thank you for producing them.
so i wanna make a carbon roof for my SC400 as well. do you think it's absolutely necessary for the roof skin to go all the way under the windshield or just panel bonding it to a 2" section of the original roof would be ok?
What’s the coating you spray after applying the release wax?
I saw your video where you installed the carbon roof, if i were to drill out the spot welds and try to repurpose the roof for my mold, would i just have to be extremely careful not to bend the panel and take my time?
Nice job, talk about patience, I have no patience when it comes to doing that kind of a project
I see sometimes you spray a clear on the mod. Is this best practice to do it before hand? Does the part come out visually better than doing it after the part had come out the oven? If you spray the clear after the demolding step would you have to wet sand and then polish since it might have orange peel?
Great
at the ending time you car rotate the part slightly in the clockwise direction so the the right dry end fills earlier due to gravity!
Hi brother what is the in mold coating? Is it clear coat or epoxy thanks
So please help me understand what it is that you are spraying in the mold for clear coat is this like a 2k automotive clear coat? if it is are you letting it fully cure before laying in the carbon? if so how dose it adhere to the epoxy? or is it more like a clear gel coat?
What type of in mold coating do you use? I need it for my parts!
Great video and extremely informative and professional. I want to replace my headliner with a carbon fiber shell. To eliminate the cloth lining from falling apart. Could it be done with an insulating backing between the liner and the roof?
@ajhartmanaero

May I ask what kind of spray glue you used to fix the carbon fiber?
What spray adhesive are you using?? I've used infutac but it looses it's tackyness really fast.
What is the mold coating? Clear coat?
Jaysus, can one point I thought you had gone two handed polishing!!!!!
May I ask which adhesive spray you using? Thank you
how strong of a vacuum pump are you running to pull that epoxy up hill?
What was the mold sprayed with prior to layup I don’t think it was mentioned?
I hate those rood panels, much prefer the polite ones. 😁 Great job again sir.
Hi, do you Degas the Epoxy Resin?
hey, in the end what do you close first? resin inflow or outflow?
These videos are great! Curious why you prefer the orange flow media vs green? Also, great explanation of the flow net bias towards the left. Would diagonal work better?
@ajhartmanaero

Green is thinner and flows slower so isn't the best on a large part. I use green on my smaller stuff.
@Mortimusmoose

You *could* do a chevron with your flow media if you wanted. That way each side goes diagonally up towards the corners. Our green media flows at a good speed. We use it for 2015+ Mustang hoods.

Hi can you do an E36 sedan roof?
What about an E60 bmw? For sunroof and antenna? I want one
What kind of spray rack are you using ?
I know I'm not an expert so my opinion wouldn't matter but if I noticed the 1 corner always fills slower than another, I'd offset the inlet about 2 or 3 inches to compensate...
What clear coating are you using in the mold that gives it the clear gloss? Is it polyester based or epoxy based? Love your channel by the way.

Not clear coat, if done properly resin comes out like that. You would clear coated afterwards to protect from yellowing from the sun outside.\

What are you spraying on the mold with the hvlp gun before the first layer of cf goes down?
@IzziedeD
Жыл бұрын
in this case i think its a gel coat / clear coat. some spray mold release like that prior to layup. I've also heard of, but never seen, primer-in-mold, essentially being able to pop a pre-primered panel straight out of the mold. In this case the clear is probably for UV protection. I could be wrong.
Love the videos! Your finishes are amazing right out the mould. Was curious as to why you don't clear coat your parts? Where I work we always send parts out for clear coat after sanding. Do parts generally hold up fine against the UV and weather without clear?

@@mikeshultz1007 - Lets say, you have a valid point... Please explain why you say so? From what I know - (out of the little experience I have with infusion) we also did it (almost) similar to what he did, for the panels we build for one of the bases in Antarctica. Faultless, and problem less. So: What is your validation behind your statement?
@mikeshultz1007
Жыл бұрын
@@The-truth-is-valuable. Just about every part of the process is wrong in this video. Putting the part on an angle is wrong and infusing from one side is wrong. The bagging process is wrong, the wrong peel-ply is being used. The vacuum setup is wrong. Those are just some of the big one's. I do have 30+ years of composite experience. If you want to watch a video of a roof being properly infused I can post a link to a video my friend posted since I am not allowed to post anything due the nature of my employment.
@The-truth-is-valuable.

@Mike Shultz - Well, keeping in mind, that he does "all wrong" (on these parts), the end resul is pretty spectacular. On bigger and more complex parts, eg: a body tub, it might lead to problems, but on these, it definitely does work, with good results. Please post the link you mentioned, so we can see.
With that inlet diameter, normally a travel of 500-600 millimeters max. is adviced. After that, a second inlet in the middle of the mold is necessary if one wants to stay safe
@ajhartmanaero
Жыл бұрын
Good rule of thumb but obviously there are a ton of variables that dictate infusion speed and distance.
@CP-zi3eg
Жыл бұрын
Of course, but in an established process, all those "ton" reduce drastically and the infusion layout is part of this reduction
How well do these panels hold up when heated in the sun?? I have seen some carbon panels warp terribly from sunlight heating.. what resin should be used?
