Making a Bark Door for the Adobe Hut (episode 40)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Through the winter I used adobe bricks to close the entrance to my hut. The bricks worked satisfactorily to insulate the inside of the hut from the cold weather outside. I delayed to make a proper door because I was using all the juniper bark I collected to further insulate the roof. Now the weather is warm and I am finally going to make that door. I use a simple bushcraft method to create a lightweight door that's easy to open.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
Who films you?
Me. I travel alone, shoot, edit, upload, everything, all alone. On a few occasions I may be accompanied by a friend, but that has been very rare.
Do you stay out there permanently?
No, I usually stay out in a wilderness area for about a week and then hike out and return to a city for editing and uploading. I have family and other obligations to take care of as well.
How many cameras do you use?
Usually I use just one camera. When I have underwater scenes then I also use a GoPro camera. I get different angles by moving the camera around and repeating the action to create a more cinematic viewing experience for the audience.
Where is this place?
In order to protect the integrity of the natural landscape I prefer to be very vague about the locations I use. There are places that I used to visit that were so beautiful and untouched but the consequences of social media brought all kinds of people to visit and sadly some people do not respect nature and have badly damaged these places. Therefore I do not share locations.
Where did you get your sandals?
I first started wearing sandals on outdoor adventures in February 2014. I’m so glad that I did because wearing these Luna Sandals has really helped strengthen my feet. You can see their selection of adventure and running sandals at this link: www.lunasandals.com/?rfsn=102...
(Note: I receive an affiliate commission from any sales derived from clicking on the link above)
Do you workout?
Yes, I workout, but not in a gym. I have some weights that I use and also do a lot of bodyweight exercises. I also run and sometimes swim. I hike frequently to collect wild foods and to shoot these videos so I'm very active all the time.
Are you vegan or vegetarian?
I wish I could maintain my health on a primal diet that does not include animals but unfortunately that did not work well and I ended up with health problems as a result of those attempts. From my studies, observations of nature, and personal experience I have come to believe that the best diet for optimal human health is a primal diet (paleo).
Do you get lonely when you’re alone?
No, I don’t get lonely. I’m actually so busy shooting video, taking photos and doing so many other things like making cordage, cooking, weaving, etc. that I really don’t have time to think about my lonely condition. Sometimes when something profound happens on an adventure I can’t wait to share it with people, but other than that I do not get lonely.
How many languages do you speak?
My first language is English but I also speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese. I also speak very little Russian. I may soon begin learning more languages.
How old are you?
I was born in 1972. At the time of this video I was 49.
Where did you get the music in your videos?
This series is the first one that I am making all the music myself. I recently made a drum and maracas (rumba shaker). I am now using them to create the intro and ending music in my videos, but before in the past I have used royalty free music from several sources including KZread. Sometimes I bought the music but usually it was free.

Glad to see you are back at the Hut! I missed this episode when it dropped, was in the middle of a new phone setup. I'd love to see you try a few more knots, I think they would help save you some cordage. Each of the knots you made on the frame here could have been done with an "Arbor Knot". You can also do the same knot with a slight variation to later retrieve the cordage, its known as the "Canadian Jam Knot". Hopefully you'll see this and look them up. Probably could have cut the cordage use down to 8-10 ft.
11:44 your ability to make cordage is amazing to me, it looks just like what you buy in the store!
@ChadZuberAdventures
2 жыл бұрын
Actually it looks different from the machine-made cordage. If you examine store cordage and my hand-made cordage you can see the difference in the pattern.

Yes, I totally agree!
I like the fact how that door can be added onto, by just slotting another section onto the top or the bottom, like nesting spoons, [ [ ] becoming [[]. I also just realized today that any horizontal gaps where the cordage ties the sticks in place could be mitigated by taking a short section of bark and working it into place vertically, tucked into the strips of bark above and below that point. That would further help retain heat inside the hut.
I gotta say that this man is shredded.
The hut is beautiful and the door came out looking very good. Nice to have you returning back to the hut now that warm weather has returned. I also enjoy to watch your other adventures while you are in Mexico. Thanks🙂

i am so happy you are back with this series! i have one suggestion. you can build an higher and larger house not circle but rectangle like 3×4 meters and tiled roof. for windows i highly suggest to make wood planks of branches and make window of full wood so when you close window or door the house will went dark ( check dalmatian old shutters they are famous and they are not from 19 century oldest one was found in Split a town in croatia and it dated 3000 BC wich are from old roman civilization. from the inside you don't have to rub stone to bricks to make it flat yust simply use mud and level it. i hope i gave you some new ideas or advice wich can help you ni your further projects❤

nice work i love your videos make me feel good
Hi Tarzan looks fenomenal.
loving the series, very much a survival/primal way of doing things. One thing I would do different is weave the Juniper bark and use the branches as a stiffener. It would be stronger overall but being hindsight 20/20 I absolutely love your method. Animal skins with fur is a must regardless of climate. Prior episodes I noticed a lack of fiber weaved clothing or animal skin with fur clothing. Deserts are HOT, but they can get chilly at night, having a hot weather/cold weather attire improves life, simple Yucca braided clothing with a layer of fur on hide would make a world of a difference, and it also would be accurate attire with the natives in that climate prior to the invasion of colonials. Food for thought.
