People like this make the world a better place.
I am an art teacher and we are studying kinetic sculpture in our unit. I showed this video to my fifth graders and they were mesmerized and inspired! Several of them plan to watch the video again at home. Thank you for posting!
oh my goodness this man needs to have his own museum. i was seriously amazed by his work.
Reuben Margolin you are a certified genius, to be sure. Thank you for the treat of Pure Joy.
Nature is in some aspect geometric, and so is Reuben's sculptures. Bringing nature with geometric art is such a beautiful combination.
This is some of the most clever kinetic sculpture I've ever seen, as in some of these linkages look like they could have real uses outside of art. This guy's a mechanical genius.
Just showed this to my physics classes during a discussion of energy and simple machines. This is an excellent demonstration of a beautiful marriage of science and art.
Beauty, sculpture, math, and recycling, all wrapped together by genius.
I love this so much! When art and science collide, the results can be wondrous, and in this case, many wonders. I hope to meet Reuben some day, and discuss his art and process!
That was fantastic, I need more documentary interviews like this!
The creativity of looking at the world with an artisic eye.......enchanting!
This dude is an ARTIST. The way he looks at the world is not usual. He just stops, and sees every little detail, every wave on the water. Now think about how many of you people stop and think about how beautiful the world is nowadays, chasing your careers and living in constant stress. Giant respect.
Outstanding!! Truly a master, the time, patience, the vision,I'm really taken by what I've seen.Thank-you for allowing me to see such tallent.
If I wanted to get kids interested in math, i'd definitely show this video before a class or something. Math is all around us, it's quite literally how everything in the universe works. Visualizing it in such conceptual pieces is astonishing and can really open one's eyes to the beauty of mathematics.
How could anybody dislike this, the guy's a freaking genius. All of that time and effort with no tests to see if it works... He's up there with Da Vinci and Theo Jansen.
I am a fourth grade teachers and my students will love Reuben's work!
Nice vid Reuben, your the only artists that shows some of the behind the scenes stuff and you talk about your intrest in making stuff since you were little. This vid is a real pic me up and will help me to keep going on my art prodjects. About the part when you speak of subing out, don't let that get to you because no one knows it all and if you get help then everything stops. Thanks.
Imaginative use of mechanics in creating aesthetic shapes, solids and their smooth movements.
I cant believe these materials can do the things you have made them do...incredible
Wow! wow! wow! Beautiful. What a mind he has. Gives me chills just enjoying the elegant movement and that this world has people that can create such things for others.
This is the coolest Art I have seen in a long time.
DaVincian - very well put, and I agree. I am truly amazed - not just in the concept, execution, methods involved - but he also just seems to be such a cool, level guy.
This guy is on another level. To simply see an eddy in the water and turn it into that, makes me wonder if we are recreating our own existence.
Those sculptures are just so surreal.
This kind of stuff reminds me of Davinci and how he combined art and mathematics as well as engineering to create masterpieces. I could watch his stuff all day long and just marvel at it. Not many artists are on this level-very, very, very cool.
This guy is a mad genius. Awesome work.
You've taking this to another level!
First time in my entire life i loooove math...Marvelous creation!
I'm in awe. Now, that's an artist.
Mesmerisingly beautiful and inspiring.. Thank you Ruben and makemagazine for sharing this with the world!!
I can't imagine being as lucky as he is in life: having a passion for expression, getting to do what I love, and being good at it.
All beautiful pieces, especially the linear wave.
Thanks for going kinetic, Reuben, and counting.
Reuben, I'm envious of your imagination & workshop. Your work is, Very groovy Cool! I'm gratefully impressed - Cheers! :-)
OH MY GOSH, this makes me squeal like a small child and brought tears of happiness to my eyes! XD
Man(humans) is capable of creating anything! This guy reminds me a lot of myself the way I see colors separately and every shapes broken up, not all together. This guy finds motion. I liked the whirlpool he made! =D
THIS WAS SO BEAUTIFUL I ALMOST CRIED!!!
great work Margolin, hope you have a lot of great stuff in future
It would be easy for some programmer to make a computer model of something like these, but there is something magical and awe-inspiring about the sculptures. They are familiar, but in a much more tangible form than is expected.
Now this is what I should have done for a career! Amazing work and very inspiring!
this man is a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!! absolutely amazing astonishing genuine mechanics!!!!!!!!!
art meeting phisics ,what an amazing concept
This guy is a genius of many trades... Expert in math, woodworking, engineering...at least. Impressive.
Pure and underrated genius.
Make wood flow like water, how awesome is this guy!
Awesome, this reminds me of that other artist who makes kinetic art e.g. walking tubes on a beach using the wind. Great stuff!
I was just about to say excactly the same! This is so... beautiful!
these are absolutely beautiful
definitely one of the coolest things ive ever seen
You Sir are a genius! its so hard to emitate the movements of nature ,and to capture it in an artificial ,& scientific way is amazing ...thanks for sharing and more power to you!
amaizing skills and great video after so many years :)
he definitely deserves a spot on the space station to work out his ideas in zero gravity. the possibilities are endless.
Amazing & coolest work. Cannot believe one man can do so many creations.
I appreciated your response to the jerk that wrote an insulting comment about the sculpture video - I am often really irked at people's comments and I wonder if it's worth further effort to respond to them... I think that people feel comfortable posting such hateful things because they know they wont be held accountable for the ugly things that they say. As we say in the south, "their mamas didn't raise them right". Anyway - thanks for speaking up! You are our country's future!
I love all of your impressive work. Saludos Paty
my mind was blown...that was really amazing

This guy is so much more of a scientist than most scientists with a hundred publications.
How can someone not love this ?? if that guy was living in Albert Einstein time, he would be consider as genius ......... AMAZING work.....
This guy is an artist of life.
Brilliant stuff. Just amazing. And he shops at Urban Ore!
Amazing! The number of views-- considering it's a 10-minute video-- is a testament to how remarkable it is. -- Lori Kagan-Moore, Director, The Great American Dollhouse Museum
Great example of how beautiful mathematics can be.
Genius Artwork!!!
This guy is a nut... in the best possible way EVER! I love that stuff!!!
I saw this actual sculpture at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA a couple of days ago!
