Maker Profile - Kinetic Wave Sculptures on MAKE: television

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Reuben Margolin, a Bay Area visionary and longtime maker, creates totally singular techno-kinetic wave sculptures. Using everything from wood to cardboard to found and salvaged objects, Reubens artwork is diverse, with sculptures ranging from tiny to looming, motorized to hand-cranked. Focusing on natural elements like a discrete water droplet or a powerful ocean eddy, his work is elegant and hypnotic. Also, learn how ocean waves can power our future. Nature is in some aspect geometric, and so is Reuben's sculptures. Bringing nature with geometric art is such a beautiful combination.

This is some of the most clever kinetic sculpture I've ever seen, as in some of these linkages look like they could have real uses outside of art. This guy's a mechanical genius.

This dude is an ARTIST. The way he looks at the world is not usual. He just stops, and sees every little detail, every wave on the water. Now think about how many of you people stop and think about how beautiful the world is nowadays, chasing your careers and living in constant stress. Giant respect.

If I wanted to get kids interested in math, i'd definitely show this video before a class or something. Math is all around us, it's quite literally how everything in the universe works. Visualizing it in such conceptual pieces is astonishing and can really open one's eyes to the beauty of mathematics.

Nice vid Reuben, your the only artists that shows some of the behind the scenes stuff and you talk about your intrest in making stuff since you were little. This vid is a real pic me up and will help me to keep going on my art prodjects. About the part when you speak of subing out, don't let that get to you because no one knows it all and if you get help then everything stops. Thanks.

I appreciated your response to the jerk that wrote an insulting comment about the sculpture video - I am often really irked at people's comments and I wonder if it's worth further effort to respond to them... I think that people feel comfortable posting such hateful things because they know they wont be held accountable for the ugly things that they say. As we say in the south, "their mamas didn't raise them right". Anyway - thanks for speaking up! You are our country's future!
