Well, Elizabeth, making some texture plates is going to be fun, along with the making of beautiful papers. My 3 yr old granddaughter, with my supervision, will have a blast making the papers, rubbing over the plates and making a grand mess with a wet paint brush. She is fearless making art.

Thank you so much!! I appreciate your feedback
I own many, many rubbing plates. But then so does anyone who has lots of embossing folders or dies. All of these paper crafting tools make nice rubbing plates. Even stamps work. And stencils and masks for that matter. But I was thinking of the plates made specifically for frottage. It was popular for a while in quilting. So I bought a bunch of Cedar Canyon plates (probably my favorite). But also a company called Ten Seconds Studio made plates for metal embossing, so did Walnut Hollow come to think of it. Even Fiskars did, though I no longer remember why. I think Royco too. Periodically rubbing plates come out that are aimed at kids. They are out there if you look. I have actually used rice paper for this purpose but with gel plates. Though I didn’t achieve the level of resist I was intending. I ended up liking a rubbing over the top of a dry gel print much better. But I wasn’t using paint with such a low viscosity. Now I want to try it. I shall have to see if Golden High Flow works well on a gel plate. Ooooh ooooh ooh, or Jacquard’s Dye-n-flow. Which makes me think of Shiva Paint Sticks (oil paint in crayon form). I already know that Shiva perfectly resists Dye-n-flow on fabric. That’s something I tried years ago, but didn’t think to try it on paper. Rice paper would make a good choice because of Dye-n-flow’s low viscosity. But I will have to wait for Shiva to cure. That’s the draw back, it won’t be as immediate as a wax based crayon. I also wasn’t using a beeswax crayons with my gel prints. I tried oil pastels, Crayola, and Neo Color I. Absolutely loved the dreamy creaminess of Neo Color I over gel prints. I easily found beeswax crayons on Amazon so I’m going to give it a whirl. There’s something called Honeysticks which are aimed at toddlers. They are big and fat so great for rubbings; colorant is food grade so that might be iffy. The other thought I had while watching this video is that while I haven’t specifically used texture paste to make a rubbing plate, I’ve certainly made lots of stuff with texture pastes so there’s nothing to stop me from using art journal pages and what have you. No waiting for paste to dry. I just love Elizabeth’s brilliant ideas, don’t you?

I don’t know how they compare, but I have had good success using joint compound instead of modeling paste in other projects. It dries much faster. Have to thank my hubby for that. You can even add grout for texture. Anybody else try it?🙏🖖

Joint compound (or grout) is NOT ARCHIVAL so you cannot sell any artwork you make using hardware supplies. since I am a professional artist, that is not an option here.

Wow, I just opened my February envelope of Painted Papers from your Papers of the Month subscription and was SO EXCITED to find that you had included FOUR of the cardstock stencil templates in addition to the regular amount of beautiful painted papers. Your included note let me know I could use those as texture plates like in this video or enjoy them as stencils or accent pieces like on the raven. For anyone who hasn't considered Elizabeth's Paper of the Month club, I highly recommend it! Such a variety of papers every month!

@@ElizabethStHilaire They do have wax in them but I do not know the exact percentage . The Neocolor ll are water soluble and the Neocolor l are not water soluble and work as a resist if adding water.
