Now we have paper that will tear with pink and purple edges and makes the metallic stamp patterns POP! I'll give step-by-step instructions for you on how to make it all work. Hello Elizabeth, I have been watching many of your videos for a month now. I just love them. I am not an artist, but started dabbling in paints and using the gelli plate. I absolutely love it and really appreciate your many tutorial tidbits. They are so awesome and I have learned a lot. I'm older in my 60's, but I love discovering my creative side after all these years. I purchased some of your stencils and hope to buy some of your rubber stamps too. Thank you so much. You are very talented.

    Just a little tip that has saved me from the same frustrating situation with paint dried on a foam stamp. Alcohol will break down acrylic paint. I have actually been successful removing some spots on my clothes this way. I usually put in in an old spray bottle and spritz it on the stamp and let it sit till the paint starts to get soft and wipe it. Sometimes it takes a few times but eventually I can remove enough for it to work again. Hope this helps.

    Thanks! I just make sure that the paint does not dry on the surface :-) I find that to be the easiest way, prevention. But yes, you can also use hand sanitizer as its primary ingredient is rubbing alcohol.

    To be more environmentally safe, you can let your rinse water sit overnight and let the residue sink to the bottom of the container. Pour off the water out onto the ground and let the solids dry out. Throw out the clump and reuse the container.

    When I was trained by Golden Paints they suggested using a 5 gallon bucket with one bag of sandbox sand. Poor the paint water into the bucket and sit it in the sun, somewhere it can dry. The paint solids will be trapped in the sand, and the water will evaporate. This way absolutely no paint goes into the ground. :-)

    I disagree. EVERYTHING you pour in the ground makes it to the ground water. Try evaporating the water by catching it in a bucket and setting it in the sun. Much better.

    I have loved watching your videos, and I am looking forward to taking a class with you in the near future. I cannot wait to try this process and check out these paints. I wanted to suggest that when you use paper towels to clean up, if you are using a sturdy roll like Costco or Viva, I wipe my paint messes or extra paint with the paper towel, and then when I am done with a color, or for the session, I water down the acrylic paints on the pallet, and soak the paper towels in it, similar to how you brush on the water downed paint, and I use the dried paper towels as collage papers, which adds a nice texture to the work! paint stays out of the drain and landfill. win-win.

  • @ElizabethStHilaire

    @ElizabethStHilaire

    So it's about contrast, you don't want the stamps to be dark when the paper is dark, you want high contrast. Also the metallic paint does not allow the paint to soak through, it resists the magenta because it is opaque! the rice paper is the key. Oh I need to wear an apron, don't I????

    One way is to let paints on the cloths dry, and then reuse until it’s ‘painted’ all over and dried again and again like layers. You can then wash or dampen to reuse since the dry acrylics will not come off. Saves papers and not polluting the water system. Just sharing useful tips I learned from other artists.

    you cannot sand acrylic as it is polymer based... plastic, it is flexible and does not sand. Plus the foam would be damaged by the sanding. It's just a good example of what happens when you don't take care of them.... but it's not hard to wipe them when they are wet! thanks Liz
