    Y’all got a good source for the rosco’s… like 6/0 and bigger? I do my rigs pretty similar except lately I’ve been experimenting with windons (with varying levels of success lol). Appreciate the vid as always! Good luck out there! Edit: and also I usually get my LP mono straight from LP in 5lb spools but they’ve been out for a while now

    Guys I need to say something..... Been subscribed and tuned in for a while now.... Man yall are so freakin awesome in how mainstream the quality of the editing is and how down to earth and humble yall communicate with the viewers. It means alot to me to finally say that I added my first two 5ft plus sharks to my portfolio landbased shark fishing. Off of this tutorial video with so much detail I made the mouse trap leader and felt like a champ when I hooked up two days in a row. It was awesome putting in all the hard work .....watching tons of yalls videos and looking back at all the focus I gave to those videos lol..... Thank yall

    Hey Mr. Vela! This is Dylan- let me share why we do what we do. I started shark fishing in 2014. With very little help it took me almost 3 years to get a good system down for leaders, line, bait, hooks, hook placement, location, kayaks, rods, connection knots, ect ect ect... I do not want anyone to have to go through that as I want everyone to enjoy the sport and be successful. So to this very comment brings me a ton of joy! You are the champ for hitting the beach with a game plan and making it happen! Keep after it and let us know any questions you have along the way! Can't thank you enough for the kind words and the support you show our channel🙌

    When you make a loop at the end of a line and crimp it, shouldn't you add a thimble eye to protect your line? Or is that unnecessary because the mono is so darn heavy?

    Good stuff guys, why single strand over cable?

  • @GulfCoastNation

    @GulfCoastNation

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey! Thank you! That has been something over the years we used to switch back and forth on. Our decision to go with only single strand was based off of 2 bad experiences we had were the cable had been cut during the fight. It had crossed to the opposite side of the sharks mouth and each strand had just been broken through individually. A big reason why anyone does anything is normally based off of past experiences. We have never had an issue with single strand wire besides it kinking bad which has cause break offs as well. But when we double #19 together. No issues at all in the last 18 months! And we feel the stiffness of the double wire holds the bait and leader in line, which is why we heat shrink the hook, and that results in better hookups. Since switching to sandbar hooks this spring, we have no missed one hookset. We feel we have perfected the leader now and that's why we wanted to share!

    Im planning to only fishing with a smaller 4/0 reel for sharks what size line leader do do you recommend hooks etc? And can i run braid all the way up to the leader or should i top shot with mono?

  • @GulfCoastNation

    @GulfCoastNation

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey! We first urge you to be smart fishing smaller gear! Make sure you run small baits close to shore. Long drops with bigger baits could mean bigger sharks and that reel will end up killing a larger shark due to long fight times. BUT if you use that reel for smaller sharks, just scale everything down! 25ft of 700 pound mono, single #19 wire to a 16/0 sandbar tackle hook!

    Every time I try to make a double wire leader I end up with one strand bubbling out. Both strands are exactly the same length and everything is twisted very tightly. Do you have any idea how to fix it?

  • @GulfCoastNation

    @GulfCoastNation

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hmm that can be tricky. Make sure to do the haywire on the swivel first. Then have someone hold the swivel so it doesn't twist. Each time you double the wire I put my thumb in the middle while I reach to twist again so it holds pressure. Then when you feed the hook through keep the tension until you make that first bend. Once you get the technique down a few times it will become second nature

    Why the single strand wire instead of coated cable?

  • @GulfCoastNation

    @GulfCoastNation

    3 жыл бұрын

    Doubled up single strand has a few advantages over coated cable but the main few are it doesn't kink. Coated cable can be bitten through by tiger sharks. And we have a better hookup ratio with double #19

    So I raise you gentlemen the question, what's to stop you guys from using cable instead of wire when you make these big rigs?

  • @GulfCoastNation

    @GulfCoastNation

    3 жыл бұрын

    We prefer wire for a few different reasons but the main two are we feel we get better hooksets with wire (wire is stiff keeping the shank and bait all in line with the shark jaw when coming tight ((with our heat shrink technique)) and tiger sharks will chew through cable

  • @GulfCoastNation

    @GulfCoastNation

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@noahw.elliott9525 you HAVE to use a mono section or you will continue to get cutoff! Thats why we make our leaders 50ft long. Sharks can wrap up and twist ect in the leader. If they get back to your main line you are done for!
