This is something I’ve never tried. Just FYI, if you leave the Heat and bond, you can can leave it on the carrier sheet to iron it onto the the first sheet, it will make it easier to keep it off of your iron or anything else you don’t want the sticky to adhere too. Great video.

Thank you so very much!! You saved my Christmas gift for my son! I made a tn the incorrect way and then saw your tutorial and was able to turn it into a very nice present for him. I had major trouble setting the grommets with the crop-a-dile as I didn’t have the instructions but after much testing I finally got what I wanted. A quick tutorial on the crop-a-dile would be very much appreciated! Also when looking for a paper to fuse the leather to I found a piece of fabric that had been fused onto a thin paper. I fused that whole thing to my leather and it was beautiful. It gave my leather the proper hand for a great quality book! Of course for a man, I left the leather on the outside.For the closure I actually cut the back part of the leather so that it had a long skinnyish strap at the middle that wrapped around and then tucked into two cuts that I made near the beginning of the strap. This left me with some small leather pieces (maybe wasteful) but really made it special which is what I wanted. All thanks to you!! Thanks again so much!!💕

Hi, sorry I didn't see your comment until now. I prefer Legacy brand over Heat n bond brand but if you use Heat n bond you want to use Lite if you want to sew anything such as sewing pockets on. The lite is made to be able to sew with and not gum up your needles. If you don't want to sew then ultra hold is good. I have made the majority of my TNs with Legacy 2 sided interfacing as mentioned in the video comments and I personally prefer it. Both brands work the same with heat fusing materials together.

Find a fabric store or leather store that sells remnants or cut offs. I have scored some amazing pieces this way for very little cost.

Hi Marylu, thank you. I have just posted another tutorial made by printing my design (using Planner Society digital images) on paper and making a no sew TN cover. I love the A5 too as I use my bullet journal every day and that TPS bag is possibly my fave bag of all time! I only started making TNs in the last month and I only make them for my personal use. I'm addicted right now so I'll soon be have a whole shelf of them!

Hi Awilda, thank you. I cut my A5 wide 14 inches wide and 8.75 inches high. The height is the same as for a standard wide TN cover. The width is good to fit more than 1 bullet journal in (so I can fit a bullet journal and an art journal), but I also like the width of the cover when I only have my bullet journal in the cover as there is space on the side for a pen. Thank you. I have another tutorial going step by step through making a TN cover with decopodged paper and heat fusible interfacing you could watch for inspiration. I decpodge and then fuse the leather as that is the easiest way to keep the leather clean. I learned that with trial and error!

That was my question too. I worry about the edges coming apart I've seen other tutorials with faux leather they use mod podge on the edges and corners. Have you had any problems with your corners? Thank you for the wonderful tutorials btw!

Hi, this tutorial is heat fusing the paper and leather together using a heat fusible interfacing. You can use any 2 sided heat fusible interfacing (available where you purchase sewing supplies). I use Legacy branded 2 sided fusible web but there are other brands such as Heat n Bond and others at your sewing store. All 2 sided heat fusible interfacings work by fusing the material either side of it when it is activated by the heat of an iron. There are lots of different heat fusible interfacings available - some can be sewn through after activation whereas some it is not recommended to sew due to potentially damaging a sewing machine. If you want to add more thickness to a cover you can buy a thicker 2 sided heat fusible interfacing which creates a thicker cover, like the one I made on the thumbnail picture to the right of girl cover. If you don't want to use a fusible bonding system you can decopodge the paper to the leather or try other adhesives, but I prefer the method I have used here. Ask any further questions and I'll do my best to help!

Thank you for the tutorial. Q: are the holes .25" down from top and .25" across from one another. Q: at which points did you score your template. Your time and response is appreciated.

Hi Gracie. My holes are 1/4 inch from the edge of the cover. I can't access cricut design space right now but they are approx 1/4 inch apart. I have my central score line in the center of the cover. The other lines are 3/4 inch away so the total is 1.5 inches. I don't score the cover as a like a rounded spine but I use the score lines to visualise the thickness of the TN. Have fun creating 💕

1st x sub. Great tutorial. I have a Louis Vuitton notebook that wasnt intended to be refilled. I'd like to convert it to a Traveler's Notebook. Do you have a video on something of that nature? I love the LV cover, so I want to use it again.

Hi Megan, do you mean the notebooks inside the traveler's notebook cover. You can buy notebooks or inserts specifically for the size TN you make. There are lots of online planner stores that sell inserts printed or printable. I like printables that I print myself. Print, cut to size and put around an elastic. Then you can cut nice paper to be a cover around the pages. I just use the elastic to hold my inserts inside my TN and don't bother binding the pages into a notebook. It's all personal preference. These can be as decorative as you like 💕

Hi, I made my standard wide TN cover 8.75" wide x 11.75" high. In the video my standard wide is the pink floral one with inside pockets and stitching. This is bigger than letter size which is why I used the Planner Society paper bag to create it.

Hi, a lot of this leather is garment leather so it is thinner for sewing garments with. I sourced a lot of it from a local closing leather factory but there is a lot available online if you can't find any locally. If you have local factories that use leather they often have offcuts big enough for journals too.

Hi, the inserts I show in this tutorial are made by The Planner Society. They are a standard pocket size and the same size that I make my inserts. A pocket insert is 3.5 inches wide x 5.5 inches tall. For making them I generally cut the pages a bit bigger than 7 inches wide and trim them when they are closed into a book with a rotary cutter. I usually make my dashboards and vellum wraparounds (around the insert) 7.25 inches wide as they need a bit of extra width at the spine to be able to wrap around the insert. I hope this helps.

how did you round the corners?

Hi I currently round my edges using a We R Memory Keepers corner chomper. I'm not sure if I had one during this tutorial. I used to just use a smaller corner rounder punch to mark the corner (as it couldn't punch through) and then I'd just cut the corner along the mark with small sharp scissors.

Why didn't you use the leather to the outside? Have you ever heat n bonded fabric to leather?

Hi, you can use the leather on the outside or inside, just add the elastics on the side you want to be the inside. If you add pockets inside you need to decide which side is the outside, otherwise you have flexibility to change. I love paper and like seeing all the different patterns 💕 I haven't heat fused fabric to leather but the heat fusible product is designed to do this so it should work fine 😁

Hi Sarah. I live in New Zealand and have easily found leather locally. To date I have used garment weight leather in my TN covers, so that is a thinner leather. If you cannot find leather at sewing supply or craft supply stores a good place to look is local leather manufacturers as offcuts can be a great size for TNs and are very affordable. If you don't have anything locally then online suppliers would be the way to go. You can purchase different thickness leathers depending on what you want. If you want to heat fuse paper/card to leather than a garment weight leather is great, but it all depends on personal preference. I hope you can find a supplier. If not then faux leather or fabric would also work. Thicker fabrics like upholstery fabrics may be best or you can use a thicker heat fusible interfacing (like I did in the TN to the right of the girl one in the thumbnail photo). If you use a thicker heat fusible interfacing you can use thinner materials either side and still have a rigid cover so could use a gorgeous fabric for your TN cover. I hope this helps!

Is the paper card stock or like scrapbooking paper?

Hi, the paper from the subscription kit is thicker than scrapbook paper. I have made TN covers with thin paper bags but I decopodge it first to help strengthen it.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I have purchased lots of leather from a garment factory - it was lots of offcuts and then whole pieces as they were closing down. I know there is a lot of different leather available for purchase online but I'm sorry I can't help further as every country is different. I've bought leather from craft supply stores and also a general bric a brac type store that gets large offcuts of leather from furniture makers to sell at an affordable price. Sorry that's not more helpful but I have so much hoarded I haven't needed to buy any in the last year

Thanks Dorabel. I'm not in the US but I can buy 2mm round elastic from jewellery and beading supply stores and some sewing supply stores. It's easiest for me to buy online. If you're in the US I believe you can buy it from Hobby Lobby and Michaels etc. Lots of round elastic is available in different colours online from Etsy and other online stores. For my first pocket wide TNs I used 1mm round elastic as I had it handy - it's working well for that size to date but I know most people making TNs use 2mm round elastic and certainly for TNs larger than pocket you would want to use 2mm round elastic. I used 2mm in this tutorial. Have fun creating and I'm happy to answer any questions!

Hi Abby, I have used a variety of different leathers on my TNs. Whatever I like the look and feel of really. Mostly reasonably thin leather or suede. Others have used faux leather or you can use fabric. I saw you asked a question about heat and bond and whether it will work the same as the Legacy fusible web I used in this tutorial. Both are a type of heat fusible interfacing so both work the same. 2 sided heat fusible interfacing works to bond a material on either side of it. Some heat fusible interfacings have no paper backing to peel off, like heat n bond, and others have paper backings on each side, like the legacy fusible web. Ask any questions, I'm more than happy to answer.

Abby Maralit Yes you can use cardstock. I print my own 220gsm card and make TNs too (another tutorial on my channel). 220gsm is about 80lb weight. Enjoy creating and ask any questions

Hi, I am bonding the paper to the reverse side of the leather hide, not the front of the leather. I love paper and this paper has a lovely texture. I find bonding paper and leather combines 2 of my loves and I enjoy using these when they have my inserts and journals inside. Each person sees beauty in different things, thanks for watching.
