I just made my custom notebook thanks to your tutorial :) Everything is explained perfectly.

LOVE this tutorial! Tip: when sewing pieces together (the pockets) use a glue around the edges to hold the leather pieces together. This makes it so you can sew without the leather pieces floating around, especially while back stitching.

Thanks for the tip about consistency with the stitching direction! I've made several of these but could not figure out how to make the stitching look neat and consistent, so your tip is very useful for future TN projects!

I’ve got a leather bag that I like but don’t use , don’t like the handles , might cut that up and make a a6 tn cover with that leather .

I really wish I had leather

Thanks so much!! Unfortunately I can't say what size punch I used for the elastic hole as this punch from Michaels doesn't have the sizes on the individual punch heads! I just realized this. Not helpful at all. The size elastic I used was 2mm and one strand of it fits into the hole perfectly with just a little wiggle room, so it has to be around that size in diameter. So sorry I couldn't offer a better answer!

Great tutorial! What size mm is the hole puncher that you used for the stitching? And what's the mm size of the thread and elastic that you used as well?

Thanks. I'm not sure if any of this information is correct, I'm just taking it from the product pages, which I linked in the description if you want to check out the exact supplies I used, but the hole punches for the stitching says "prong pitch size: approx. 4mm." The thread I used says "0.6mm to 0.7mm" and the elastic I know for sure was 2mm (think I used a strand I took off a Foxy Fix notebook). Again, all the links except for elastic, are in the description if you need more info! xx

hi, What type of leather is the b6 slim NT made of? It seems a lot stiffer than the one you made in this video. If I wanted to make one myself what type of leather would I look for to make it more stiff such as the brown one Thank you

The B6 slim is made with natural Veg Tan leather that's 4-6 ounces in thickness. I believe the outer cover is 5-6 ounce and the pockets on the inside is 4-5 ounce leather. The veg tan leather comes much lighter than what my TN looks like, but that's the beauty of natural veg tan, it patinas darker over time. Though I do think you can find it dyed darker too. If you're in the States, I get most if not all of my pre-cut leather from The Leather Guy: theleatherguy.org

This is so late but this was the best tutorial I’ve found for what I want to give as Christmas gifts, I wanted to ask if you or anyone has any ideas about alternative punching tools? Like a fork, etc! I’m not sure I can order them from Amazon in the time limit I have to get a finished product, trying to be creative here 😅

Thank you! Hmm a fork may work to get the spacing right, but you may need a sharp needle or awl to make sure the holes are punched through, depending on the thickness of the leather you're using. But for the spacing, that would work well, especially if in a pinch. Definitely try it and see. I would have never though to use a fork, but I'm really thinking about it and it may work! 😄

Why do you like the reinforced spine. So many TNs do not have it. It’s alot of work! Lol. Your video was awesome and so easy to follow. Thank you!

Thanks! I like a reinforced spine for leathers that are thin, 1-3oz in thickness, like the one I used for this notebook. It just helps the TN not buckle at the spine when filled with notebooks. Generally, if I'm working with thicker leather (4oz and up), I don't do a reinforced spine. It's much too hard to hand stitch!

I'm not exactly sure how much I spent seeing as I had a lot of the supplies on hand already, I think I just had to buy the leather which was like $12 at most. But I've got all the links in the description to everything I used. Got a lot of tools from Michaels and used coupons, so most things were relatively inexpensive. And I always buy precut sheets of leather cause they're responsibly priced. Also once you have the tools, you can make endless TNs as long as you replenish leather and thread. It definitely comes out A LOT cheaper than buying TNs from places like Foxy Fix, Chic Sparrow, etc!

How many pieces come in the precuts?

Hi, I'm not exactly sure what you mean...but if you mean how many precuts you might need to make a similar notebook, for this pocket-sized TN, I believe I used two 12x12-inch precut pieces of leather. That should be more than sufficient to get all the parts you need to make this cover.

This journal is pocket TN size, so it holds inserts that are 3.5 x 5.5 inches.

I normally don't add beads to my journal pages cause it creates a lot of bulk. But I do like to include little paperclip charms, so that they hang off the top, sides, bottom of my journal. And if I'm making the journal myself, I'll add beads to the end of the string that's left over from binding the book together, instead of cutting it off. That way I have a nice dangly charm hanging off the bottom of my journal. As for ideas, it's hard to come up with them when you have a create block. When this happens to me, I usually try something new and play around. I normally just make something to try it out and if I don't like it, cover over it or toss it, and try something else. Looking for inspiration either on Pinterest, Instagram or KZread also helps with finding things to try in my journals too. But yeah, I just play around with stuff until I find my spark again. xx

I like hard covers though cause leather is so floppy
