Make a sander grinder belt brought to you by Pete Blair AKA the Mad Scientist

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Video showing how I make sanding/grinding belts from other sanding belts.
I do note that Safety Glass should be worn but when grinding or sanding all PPE such as Eye, Ear and respiratory should be used.

Thanks Rob. By the way not sure if you can help me but I made a tiny Ball Pien hammer using ball bearing but they have quickly got dents etc. Should I have tempered them before I used them? They don't appear to be very hard?

@@peteblairakathemadscientist I like to make carving knives out of ball bearings Pete and yes you will have to heat treat them to make them hard again. I bring them up to bright yellow about 1500 degrees f then quench them in oil I have been using canola oil the oil is heated to about 120 degrees F Them put it in the over at 400 degrees For about 3 hours but being a hammer you make what to leave it in longer I have been using a little electric oven Uses less power than the home size one lol hope that help you out stay safe Mad scientist

@@justcarverob9389 Thanks Just Carve Rob. And yes I use a small oven in my shop but heat to 400 for an hour, let it cool and repeat. I guess I will have to try that when I make my next one. I had for some reason thought that Ball Bearing would already be hard. LOL. Hope all is well with you and you have or are recovering.

Thanks for the note David. Have you tried any tape yet? I think the trick is to use one with fibers in it. The sure fire way is to use CA glue but it is messier and more difficult to line up and in addition both sides of the lap joint need to be reduced in thickness a little. I have found that a bit of a bump really makes very little difference.
