So far this is the only tutorial I've found that actually explains how to get the line to follow the null. Every other video I've seen has had the entire callout follow the null. I never would have thought to use beam for the line. Thanks a bunch for this.
Thank you! Exactly what I needed to know, perfectly explained.
Excellent. Thanks!
thanks man! Loving your content
Hands down the easiest explanation ever. Tks!
This is such a useful technique, couldn't find it anywhere else. Thanks so much!

Thanks, will do!
I really struggled with a the beam effect, I found another method that I found much quicker and easier; create nulls from paths. It’s in ‘window’ at the bottom of the list, you can use a regular shape layer to draw a line and then generate nulls on every anchor point of the line that act as a controller for that anchor point. Parent the nulls to your tracking point and you’re cooking on gas. This method also allows you to have a annotation line of any shape, which I found fiddly using a beam and lead me to this much easier method. Not to take away from this vid though, it got me 80% of the way there.

You literally saved my day with this comment. The beam method isn't bad, but I needed specifically your method. Thanks a lot !

I wish we could introduce a point in the beam similar to a path where it could have some curvature
Thanks bro

To adjust the line you can also add some code to the expression then you’re able to use the beam position as an offset :)

Hit me with the code!

@@TipTut thisComp.layer("TrackingPoint").transform.position + value This expression has to be applied to the endingpoint. The " + value" adds the position value of the endingpoint as an offset to the position of the "TrackingPoint". I figured out you can just drag the line as you normally would. But this time to adjust the offset. I hope it helped :)

@@ultramoxx1148 Awesome, nice one!
Is there any way to convert the path described by the tracking tool into an animated line from the starting point to the end? But without having to do it by hand?
Well. I want to create a 3d line or beam travel around 2 places in 3d space. But these beam start and end point only supports 2d coordinates. Any suggestions?
anyway you can do this but with text rather than the line? have the text tracked to multiple anchor points?
Thanks for a great tutorial ! One Question: Can I create it once, save it somehow and use it later for other videos by just changing the values ? I mean, use it like a template.

Unfortunately not, it's tracked to the specific footage.

Hi! My question is: Am I able to stick the beam's ends to one and another tracking point?
great tutorial, why dont you link the start and end point of the line to the position of the circle?

Doesn't work, don't know why, but I do remember trying! Maybe I missed something though
🙏🏽🌹🌹
cant this be done using the create nulls from points add on, easier?

Yes, found out about this shortly after making the video haha!
Every single time i attempt to push 'Edit Target' (3:54) there is no option for me to chose therefore not letting me hit 'apply' afterwards. i cannot for the life of me figure out why. i have followed your process over 30 times with multiple different videos and layers. please help before i get my baseball bat :)
what is the simplest tool to follow a point in a video and draw a line on that movement, I need it for something scientific so please suggest something simple

Draw the line you want with a pen tool, and use trim paths to animate the start and end points.

@@TipTut I am so thankful , but I still nope , an illustration video would be helpful , hips
First
I tried this and so many other tutorials and there is NO WAY to make it work… the ending pint stinks to a place but it DOES NOT follow the correct point… desperate much….
