The medical examiners job os to do the autopsy and determine why the person died . I understand its upsetting that ot wasnt directly caused by the head injury as far as we we know from whats in the report so far but its thoer responsibility to figure out gow the person died and bot why so how is it a cover up by the medical examiner just because they didnt express in the autopsy report that it was due to bullying . Maybe im wrong but thats usually for the cops to investigate why

the full report hasn't even been released. cops jump the gun all the time by releasing incomplete information. cops get the answer wrong all the time. why do you think the Innocence Project exists?

As someone who was in nursing for over a decade and, has had head trauma and have overdosed due to trauma, I can tell you right now there would be clear indications of overdose. There would be some overlap of symptoms but overdose presents differently.

Culminating not cultivating. Just trying to help. If you misuse words, it can affect your ability to reach your audience

I believe the body was released back to the family a few weeks ago and they had told media that they were already cremated, so it's highly unlikely there's going to be any sort of independent autopsy. If anything the medical examiner will probably still have some blood samples, but that would be it.

Any one old enough to run for office. Go and run. It too late for POTUS. But can run for Sen and Congress. Depending on the state you live in. And can how they treated trans people.

Like that boeing whistle-blower that totally killed himself.

I doubt Nex had access to enough Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for that to happen the way it’s been claimed. Supposedly antidepressants were also involved, but I’m waiting on the full report. The more time that goes on, the less valid the results will be on certain tests because cells and compounds are going to degrade. Putting the body on ice slows the process, but it’s not an indefinite solution. A private autopsy would have to take place *soon.*

It doesn’t take as much Benadryl as you think to cause severe liver damage and dehydration in such a short span of time depending on the anti depressant it’s entirely possible it was due too the medications

@@doms4885 it takes a LOT of Benedryl. Benedryl gets used as a first attempt anxiety medication. Mixing Benedryl and Prozac isn't going to do that.

I could not have said it better myself, especially toward the end. It's infuriating that this abuse is simply tolerated on not just a state level but a Federal level as well. By spreading awareness and refusing to let this egregious, unjust situation be forgotten, we can not only get justice for Nex, but we can also push for serious change to prevent our public schools from infringing upon and outcasting LGBTQ children.

This is a really horrible situation

I have a trans child. Turning 27. I had to pull my child out of 7th grade the bullying got so bad. I believe its a cover up 100%. I love you sweetheart and thank you for reporting on this. I have had to get an add on to my antidepressant over worrying about Nex. We love you Nex!

He and his team had medical records and did research on this field for several years before the Nazis came and burnt their books as well as they burnt down the institute. If Nex somehow committed suicide, they still died as a result of vicious bullying. I recently read an unrelated story about a man who was not LGBT, who died by suicide in jail after being locked up on charges he said were trumped up against him. Same concept. If he hadn't been harassed and then unfairly jailed with little hope of having a normal life, he'd still be alive, just as Nex would still be alive, if it weren't for the haters who wanted them dead. Stay strong and don't let the haters get you down with the disgusting things they post here.

Hypothetical: If it was somehow a suicide overdose, wouldn't it have happened after Nex sustained serious head trauma? You don't act the most rationally when your brain is internally bleeding. That's why when you sustain head trauma, it tends to be policy and procedure to keep the person under medical supervision for a while.

you are 10000% correct. many people who sustain head injuries may appear to be functional for a period, and then experience a more fatal reaction to the trauma afterwards if they are not monitored correctly. my friend who works in neuroscience used to always tell me about the severity of these things. i call BS that it was prozac and benadryl alone that killed poor nex. even if it was by nex's own volition, the bullies and the school are ten times more culpable. if one student is suicidal because of the toxic culture, then imagine how many other students are struggling.

They had a gram of Benadryl in their blood, for that to happen they would’ve had to take atleast 10 grams of Benadryl. That’s 200 pills, you don’t take 200 Benadryl pills to alleviate a headache

Lawsuits (unless from DoJ Civil Rights) don't typically do much in cases like this, for want of standing to get past summary dismissal.

I read in an article that Nex' family allegedly did not dispute the claim of it being suicide but that they want to release the severity of the head injuries listed in the report. There go my hopes that the family would maybe hire someone to do a private autopsy... I hope they haven't already cremated Nex like someone in the comments said and that the DOJ would still be able to do an autopsy. And I definitely hope that family in this context means their adoptive mother aka grandma who really took care of Nex and not the transphobic parents... If there hadn't been already been so much going wrong before Nex died (nobody calling the police or an ambulance, Nex being released from hospital despite apparent guidelines of keeping minors over night after they blacked out, ect) then I wouldn't be so extremely skeptical of all of this. I don't know enough of how US crime investigation normally works and how long they normally take, but I also don't get why don't release the full report now but in 10 days?? I also have to say, in the end, the measurements taken against bullying and for the protection of LGBTQ+ lives should be increased either way. Nex is dead either because the fight and the injuries were a direct cause to it, or the bullying has been an indirect cause to it. At least they haven't stopped investigating what happened at the school yet. Cause even if it was suicide or unlucky reaction/combination of meds, then what happened at that school is still something that should have never happened and therefore could have prevented their death!

Nex's family does not appear to dispute the conclusion of suicide. Their lawyer released a statement that the family would no longer be commenting on any of this stuff. Nex apparently left a suicide note that describes mostly issues at home and does not mention either school or bullying. Many had hypothesized that Nex did not want to go back to her school. However, in Oklahoma, it is quite common for children who receive a long suspension as Nex did to finish out the semester at home via an accredited online school paid for by the school district.

Sadly, even if Nex did commit suicide, it can’t be proven that bullying was the reason. That would be difficult to prove in court, thus the girls would go free. Surprised no one has leaked their names yet.

I am a 68 year old cisgender grandfather. This tragic case has affected me deeply. It’s staggering how it STINKS of cover up! Other than some faint possibility of some bazaar fluke which most likely doesn’t exist, what we’re really looking at is institutionalized hatred.

I highly doubt that a head scan was ever done on Nex. Either when they were alive or as part of the autopsy. Not ever doing a head scan is a clear neglect of the medical process. 🤬

From the school admin, to the police, coroner, hospital staff. They were all corrupt and failed a child who was in dire need of their help. If you have a trans teen in one of these red states. Pull them out and move to a sanctuary state. Your job isn't worth your child's life. Yall stay vigilant and hug those kids tight. Protect them and fight this alt right hatful rhetoric at every turn.

It should be added, that there are organisations to help or people can set up a go fund me page or something like that, if they desperetaly want/need to move but lack the resources to do so. Sadly not everybody is privileged enough to just move somewhere else, but there is help.

yeah their attorney posted a statement saying a huge portion of the police's report directly contradicts what the medical examiner actually found.

The video of Nex in the hostpital the day before, does not show someone who is contemplating suicide. This is a cover up. Corrupt coroners are actually pretty common in US.

I’d like to read the actual autopsy and get an independent review of it before I accept these claims. But there is no doubt that bullying increase the risk of suicide for a wide variety of people. And there was an extensive pattern of bullying at Owasso HS. So even if it was a suicide, it was still a consequence of the bullying. I also want to see what the Civil Rights Division and hopefully the Justice Department come up with.

Doubt it's a "paid off" kinda thing; more of a "hushed up/made to go away" thing but to protect someone/-thing bigger and broader than the trio of bathroom assailants. Unless there's an immediate or extended family connection between the coroner and an assailant, I'd suspect "school district" level at a minimum, as in "systemic."

Severe traumatic brain injury. Probably severe concussion. Independent autopsy is a must. We are mourning Nex.

It's very suspicious. One, supposedly overdosed...on what? This death was likely to an untreated concussion, i.e. hemorrhaging of the brain. That's what my gut says. WTF! Nothing in any of these articles say there was an overdose, just that it was a toxic reaction. So, okay... When you get your head smashed into the ground and/or punched repeatedly, you end up with headaches (I should know). Those headaches could be a concussion or some other traumatic brain injury. The one thing you don't want to do with TBI is sleep within 24 hrs at minimum because it could take time before a brain injury triggers a response. But they were given a clean bill of health at the hospital, so they took a prescribed antidepressant and a dose of OTC Benadryl, probably hoping to sleep off the headache. The problem is that fluoxetine enhances the sedation effects of the Benadryl, and sleep was the last thing they needed. It was not an overdose... It was all due to her injuries from the fight. Just because TBI doesn't present right away doesn't mean it isn't there.
