Major Storm Damage - TORNADO Hit Our Farm

Major Storm Damage 5-12-22 If the over abundance of rain wasn't bad enough this wind storm/tornado damage has got us stressed out! Thankfully we're all safe and everything on the farm can be replaced. We lost our cold storage shed and at least 1 grain bin. Mostly all of the equipment stored in the shed was also damaged.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Zach, when you see a news report of tornado damage, although your heart still goes out to the people involved, you feel a certain detachment. Watching this video made me feel like a catastrophe happened to a family member, even though we've never met. I know it must've been difficult to film all of the devastation when all you probably wanted to do is wish it all away. You have always said that your purpose in having this KZread channel is to share all aspects of farm life with non-farmers so that we can see what it's really like. Part of that is sharing the heartbreak along with the joy. Thank you and God bless you.

Farming is brutal. My family was one harvest away from not needing to borrow operating money in 1983. A late summer hail storm (golf ball sized hail, which was amazing as a kid) destroyed all the crops. We had insurance, but it put us behind. My grandpa and dad called it quits a few years later because of many compounding issues, but those 15 minutes of hail put us in a place where we just couldn't recover. Hopefully you can be more resilient than we were able to be.

Glad all of are safe. Hope you can recover quickly. Thank you for sharing the raw footage of reactions to the storm. We lived in Nebraska for many years and I would always go out and find the tornados. I can remember staying out in the field ahead of storms until the last possible minute before picking up and going home. I hate see the damage, but I do miss the weather in the Midwest. Thanks again for sharing!

The most important thing to be thankful for is that everyone (Becky, you, the kids, dogs, and hopefully all the cats) are safe. I'm sorry you are getting setback after setback, but insurance will help ease the pain with lost items. I grew up in tornado alley (midwest) so I understand the damage it causes. Again, really happy everyone is okay :)

Yep, small rural town in tornado alley and just like you, we get out and drive around after (sometimes during) the storm to see all the crazy damage they do. I've been within a half mile of 3 different tornados and they never fail to impress me with what they are capable of doing.

I know the feeling Zach...we had a tornado go through our town and wiped out most of the south side of town ....Im an electrician and, at the time, was heavily involved with Boy Scouts...the scouts went around and helped with cleanup, and I worked extensively with electrical work around that area, the hopelessness and loss in the people's faces was heartbreaking, watching families wandering helplessly wondering what to do or where to go...so heart wrenching.... My thoughts and prayers are with you guys....I'm glad your family is safe, I'm glad your safe, and all those material things can be replaced!
