Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Not sure if you will see this Zach, but I used to work for a feedmill in Wisconsin and my leg got caught in an auger resulting in amputation. If he needs someone to talk to that has gone through a similar experience, I would be glad to help.

In germany a farmer lost both of his legs I think it was about 6 weeks ago. Had a blocked auger in the hopper while unloading and they were trying to clear it...he slipped and got pulled into the auger with both of his legs. Medical team had to do the amputation on site, as they could not get him out. Engine was running and auger still running, farming assistant was sitting in the cab, so the safety did not shut the engine off.

3 years ago in July just a week before my dad's birthday, him and my uncle that he farmed with we're cleaning out a grain bin to get ready or the upcoming crop in the fall. He went up into the grain bin and had all of his safety gear on. Unfortunately he never made it back out alive. They had to cut a hole in the side of the grain bin to empty all the green until they could find him. It just goes to show you that no matter how careful you are things can always happen. Thank you Zach for all your videos. It has definitely made me a huge advocate for grain bin safety. Although myself I will never use another one again as long as I'm farming.

As far as safety goes, there's an old saying among truck drivers, You can go down a hill too slow a million times but you can only go down it too fast once. You might go into a grain bin a thousand times without anything bad happening but you have to remember that something bad could happen every time you go in. A man just died yesterday in Wisconsin when he was buried by corn silage. Another thing that happens in rural areas is people ignoring stop signs. I've often heard people say, "I'll stop twice for it next time." Just a week ago a woman failed to stop for a stop sign and a man on a motorcycle hit the side of the vehicle and was killed. Back in the 1960s near my grandparents farm, a woman and her daughter were on their way to church on a Sunday morning when she rolled through a stop sign in front of a milk hauler. The tank was half full so when the driver tried to turn to avoid them, the milk went to one side and the truck rolled over the car killing the mother and daughter. That has always stuck with me so I stop at every stop sign and look both ways. I am always watching at intersections to see if any approaching vehicles are going to stop.

@@jdjd962 I'm sorry to see that about your brother. My father worked road construction for over 40 years. It's crazy on the roads these days. Your dad's encounter with the longhorns reminds me of a farmer I knew who had a bull that he raised from a calf. It was like a pet dog to him. One day he was found dead in the pen with the bull which had apparently attacked him.

If you need a ventilator for unloading Pits, Harbor freight has the ventilator fans and fabric vent hoses. Maybe not in the local store, but they ship well. Or transfer well. Confined space gas detectors are optional if you ventilate well and long enough.

Always love seeing the dogs run around on the farm. Need some Onyx footage in the tractor or combine. Keep them coming.

Safety: for confined space ventilation, they have the special fans and fabric Hose at Harbor freight, set it up and clean up the Confined space ahead of entry and during the occupancy. Easy and Simple solution, and more comfortable with the fresh air. 😊
