Greatest line, or one of, in the movie is when Cerrano gets pissed and says "Fuck you Jobu! I do this myself!" Then rocks a homer off a curve. No one catches that Janitor from Scrubs was not only in The Fugitive, he was also in this one a few times. They should have played that more on Scrubs. 99 is not overly fast anymore. Most Aces (the 1st guy in the pitching rotation of 5) can usually put up 100 consistent.

I'd like to recommend "The Best of Times" it's a football movie from 1986 and has Kurt Russell and Robin Williams. It's pretty funny and kind of cheesy at times as it shows how one play in a high school football game rules over his life for 13 years and what he tries to do about it. Also, as a few have talked about Wesley Snipes was in a few sports movies during this time. White Men Can't Jump with Woody Harrelson was really good. And he was also in "Wildcats" which is one you'd probably like also from 1986. Goldie Hawn coaches an inner city high school football team. Snipes and Harrelson are both on that team.

Don't worry, you're not supposed to know what the signs are communicating. You figure it from context after it happens. If the signs were that easy to figure out, they might as well yell "hey, steal second!" because the whole point is that they can "talk" without the other team automatically knowing (though sign stealing is definitely a thing). That being said, I'm not sure how they communicated the game winning play but it was pretty convenient Jake somehow knew he'd be thrown at for sure and so Willie doesn't take off with the pitch that knocks Jake down.

Recently saw a clip of the original ending for this movie. Apparently, it originally had a big plot twist. The bitch owner had actually orchestrated the whole thing. She had inherited a broke team and was at risk of losing it, so, she found cheap, flawed players that nobody wanted and specifically recruited her manager to be the guy that could motivate them. She told the manager this before the final game when he came to turn in his resignation before she could fire him. She said, if I really wanted you to lose, I would have gotten rid of the guys that started playing good. They reshot scenes after showing it to a test audience who felt it played out better to have her play a villian the whole way through.

The conceit of the owner wanting the team to fail had much in common with "Ted Lasso", have you seen that? (It's awesome!) I have no familiarity with baseball, but I understand it to be a game that thrives on pointless memorisation of arcane statistics, like cricket. (Except not played by anyone else so the USA can call itself World Champions!) My family spent entire summers watching cricket when I was a kid (to my indifference.) But I get the appeal of supporting a sports team (especially for real sports, like rugby!) I liked this movie, and would never have seen it (even the KZread edit!) without you. So thank you. I didn't like Tom Berenger's character at all, and did not understand why Renee Russo kept indulging his toxic behaviour. Praying to the Christian god for a sports team's victory (especially in front of non Christian team members) seemed unbelievably petty and rude. Surely any god would be on the other team's side?

I haven't seen Ted Lasso, no. I'm not terribly knowledgeable about baseball either, but funny enough I like several baseball movies. It's very exciting when something happens 😂 I liked Jake very much during the parts that focused on the team. He was a great leader to the guys and I would have preferred more of his arc as a player looking down the barrel of old age vs the romance. I didn't like him AT ALL in that part. The problem was that there wasn't enough time to develop anything with Lynn, we were supposed to take their word for it that they were into each other but we don't see anything growth-wise. They could have dropped the romance plot entirely and I don't think the movie would have suffered for it.
