That malt room is the greatest smelling place on earth. Very warm inside but smells like fresh baked banana bread.

The fact they triple distill ensures their bourbon will be wonderfully smooth They are doing things right

but why not simply do a single distillation and run it slow to get the right abv like you would instead of doing it 3 times?

  • @garrettshadbolt6443

@@ARCSTREAMS it just doesn’t work that way even an ultra slow distillation will not result in the same separation as three distinct pot distillations. You can easily increase the abv off take by adding plates or reflux but pot stills bring over a large amount of heavier compounds that are desirable in the spirit.

i do not understand the notion that putting less abv product into the barrels helps extract more wood flavours instead of a higher abv product?

Well, that means less water is added later. Think about it

  • @ARCSTREAMS

@@sn1000k not sure i follow, for example if you fill a barrel with say 62%(normal high abv fill) it does a better job to extract flavors from the wood than say if you were to put a weaker abv like 50%, yes in the end the 50% will require a bit less water to cut and bottle but may not be as flavorful as what the 62% already has and what it extracted from the wood, and the point of the argument was not about adding water but about wood flavor extraction, chris said the lower abv does a better job extracting the wood flavor and that makes no sense to me

Kentucky is known for one thing only (outside of America) and that is fried Chicken! Whiskey drinkers might also think of Bourbon and horse people might think of horses but for the general public it is just Fried Chicken and people who are of a certain age might also point out that is where the comic character Superman was raised too.!
