italy has the most unknown stuff randomly popping up from time to time, great job to the anonymous fellow citizen who helped with this, you really make our country proud

You're right, i once found a very rare screen panel for my Dell Latitude C800 from a little seller in italy. There were 0 other offers for that specific screen in months.

@@ora2j251 true, during the pandemic a friend of mine received a full Pump it Up cabinet from a local arcade for free, and i took if off his hands for just 300 dollars. Whole cabs usually go for around 3k-4k as far as i can see on internet. It had the original IO and game hard drive too which run for 200 euro each, the best deal i ever had.
Your channel is so damn badass. Thanks for sharing and archiving everything you do!
16:30 I had a very similar hand scanner something like 20 years ago, maybe longer. Mine had a plastic sheet added to it. It had Win 3.11 drivers, and it BARELY worked on Windows 95.
I love the ergonomics of JVC remotes of that era. Had a regular VHS player from the time, even their cheapo stuff was decent in the mid-90's.
I used to send Daisywheels off to "some guy" who would remove some of the "petals" that we weren't using and glue in their place symbols we needed. We were in a lab, so needed degree, pi and mu for example. So now you know that's possible. 3D print a modern font for ol' reliable?
The gratitude and genuine joy you give and get from this stuff is heart warming. It makes me want to find something to send you. 😂
Elektronika made a lot of stuff including digital watches, and there is still a brand today in Belarus making brand new, but essentially soviet-era, Elektronika digital watches. I'm pretty sure they use a lot of old stock parts for the actual circuits, but they started developing their own brand new parts as well.
3:12 Kalih's Box and Silent switches really are a safe bet for a build. I love the weight of the Pinks (in both lines), and you can actually tweak the weighting and sound further by swapping the springs from a Box White into the Pinks. It results in a slightly lighter weighting (basically you've made a Box Jade iirc) that's ideal for ring and pinky finger keys, which is how I use them.
24:38 Here I thought "this reminds me of the layout of the cloned card for the Phillips CD reader", which briefly made me wonder if we saw so much of it that all PCB from that time looks like it to me now. But then I was like "there's no freaking way 😮".
The second you pulled the CM153 out of the box I imidiatly recognized it.
15:01 - Man I remember my primary school having one of those, hooked up to a Windows 95/98 machine
That Elektronika MK90 is gorgeous!
A Cyrillic-to-Roman table is definitely going to help with that Russian computer. ПК-100 ("PK-100") is probably a model number? I think I saw something that looked like Бейсик - that *sounds* like BASIC (literally).
@The14Some1
Жыл бұрын
ПК stands for Персональный (Personal) Компьютер (Computer) or in this particular case it could be Калькулятор (Calculator). I believe ПК100 is an internal device name based on firmware (there were different variations back then). P.S. and you're correct about Бейсик.

ПК100 is a model number, ПК stands for personal or programmable computer (but may also be a calculator on steriods which it actually is), that I'm telling you as a Cyrillic-to-Roman table.:) Бейсик is BASIC, yes, just a transliteration.

Bro I'm not even into computers like that but I can't stop watching ur videos man. U do a great job into detail especially for someone who knows really nothing about computers. Thank u sir keep up the good work!
Had to go downstairs and look, but mine was a WVHS deck, not DVHS. (Victor SR-W310.) It died long ago, but I kept the manuals, and the remote is around here somewhere.
Wow, that was like Christmas for Shelby! Gotta admire his enthusiasm.
I had one of those HP hand scanners; first scanner I ever owned. loved it.

Nice thing about stuff like this is that you get a sneek preview of whats to come in the future when youtubers go through their mail and packages.
Wow, that SC1224 box is completely different than mine! Also, my ST keyboard isn't THAT bad, but my XE keyboard? I agree completely. It's quite possibly the worst feeling keyboard I've ever experienced in my life.
Really find these mail videos so interesting! Cheers Shellby! 🥤
Elektronika wasn't bad for its time and covered most of the hi-sch/uni needs. But there was a nuance - it cost like a 1 year long average salary :-))))))))))
Good video. Love the ST keys and the monitor. Thank you.
“TT Touch”? 😂 They even look the part and the color checks out for a part of population. And here I thought that was a family-friendly channel.
I have two keyboards with Kailh Box switches - cream and white - and yeah, they're fantastic.
jog wheels on remotes for scrubbing were such a good idea. its a shame only apple sees that and puts it on the new apple tv remote. i set it to scrub in vlc by scrolling. i now hate using any other player to watch video.
I had one of those hand scanners back in the day, they were sooo hard to use well

Yeah, I'd say they were basically a scam. Didn't encounter any that made your job easier 😂
It says PK100 as personal computer in Russian :) first choice on bottom says basic than SMP0 and SMP1 not sure what that for. Maybe for memory modules ? Next screen was saying TEST SMP 2 test keyboard 3 test LCD 4 exit in to the loader.
@Aeduo
Жыл бұрын
yeah SMP is the memory modules. It allows to boot a machine language program loaded on them. I've done a bit of development in an emulator (I'm Paul.). My grasp of the language is weak but i've been able to stumble my way through figuring things out with it from what I know. I have a second unit, but I haven't been able to actually load software on it to know if my code even works on real hardware haha.

Oh hey, I switched from (Cherry) Greens to Kailh Box Navies too. Much more consistent and consistently loud than the Cherry switches, though I do still want to try Cherry Whites sometime.
Interestingly I had never considered my STEs keyboard to be a problem. But I was so much younger back then :D The MK90 is really awesome! I remember the CPU in there is actually a clone of the PDP (11 I think). It would be amazing to see some programs running on it.
Great future mad project idea, make some sort of Rpi 2040 based WiFi storage card for the Electronica
GP32! My buddy was obsessed with his back in the day.
I was one of those who bought a GP32. I still have it in a sift case 👍🏻
Normal scanners predated these handheld scanners, but were so expensive that these handheld scanners appeared as a cheaper alternatives...for hundreds instead of thousands of dollars.
Absolutely want to see more of that Soviet era computer. 😁
For most IR remotes, you can use an ESP8266 or Arduino and capture the codes - that way reproduction remotes can be created.
I would love to see a full video on the GP32. It's a really weird console that is kind of forgotten nowadays.
tipp-ex is still buyible in germany for fountain pens
I am also a Michael who has experienced the GamePark (I think I have my box somewhere)
The Elektronika computers were from the Soviet Union, not just Russia.
7:16 Funny I'm from Buffalo and I was born in 1988 lol I just that was worth a comment. Carry on :)
11:11 It's PK100 (ПК100) the other name for this computer. PK300 is a laptop Electronica MS-1504 (Электроника МС-1504) for example.
I had one of those hand held scanners new. Remember the box and such. What a pain in the arse it was to use.
I love how appreciative you genuinely are of things you were given! I see some other KZreadrs receive some generosity but look unimpressed or criticize the packaging. Keep up the great work on this channel!
that atari monitor looks like the later, cost reduced design, you can likely case swap the 2 you have so you retain the nice badges wich go w/ the computers on a working monitor
Surely that Firewire encryption can be broken by now.
Scanning text with those hand scanners was a super fiddly process. You had to scan the page in 2 passes, then try to align the two documents in some wonky software before you could run an OCR program that couldn't tell "I" from "1" or "T" from "7". It felt like the future 🙂
@martinlebl631
Жыл бұрын
It really depended on the font. It did pretty well on some text, and useless on other. Best use was for short parts of text in columns, like magazine, or newspaper, or diagrams. Full page text, or graphic was always a pain. Worked pretty well for business cards with the right software, especially if you had a stack of them from a conference to put into your contact manager.
You should send the other Atari monitor to Adrian Black and make a collab video! About the GP32, I had a Wiz and loved it! Finally I gifted it to a friend for his son, in pristine condition, because I wanted a new similar handheld with bigger screen.

A good idea, but the distance between the two would be hard. Maybe they could talk at VCF West?
Wondering if the OG Tetris for the Elektronika 60 is compatible with the MK90
that "one more thing" ..in the end
Most of the features were covered in Кирилл Лейфер videos.
11:04 It's not N-Key, ПК stands for Портативный Компьютер here (Portable Computer).
Cali blue ? my ears pricked up LOL
Must have a real strong set of hands if you use Box Navies lol.
That's awesome!
Yaaaay a fellow hungarian!
Don't launch the Russian Nukes with that computer! ;)
11:04 THAT, my dear Shelby is not an N, that's a Cyrillic P.😉 (the Cyrillic N looks like our H.)
Hmmm,i've never seen a white "Electronica"!!!!
I miss my gp32 :(
What kind of globe is that?
Sooner it would be: портативный компьютер - portable computer
MX Cherry Blue for the win 😉
Prepare to be disappointed Shelby. Those handheld scanners are terrible.
can you do the 20th anniversary of windows server 2003?
Can you play tetris on the elektronika 90?
The ZX81 is pronounced 'Zed-Ex Eighty-One'.
The "nk" is cyrillian and means "ik"
"ПК-100": that's "PK100" not "NK100"

It is in russian - 10:56
Hi
The Mk-90 was produced in the Minsk (Belarus) Electronika factory, of which there were several all throughout the USSR. Be careful with late Soviet industrial design, it can become an extremely addictive hobby there are watches, calculators, portable TVs, personal computers, and various other consumer products that exemplify the design 'language' (I hate that term) of the time. Not sure what it is about the stuff, I certainly despise communism/central planning and it's not nostalgia because I wasn't alive in the 80's and I've never been to Russia/Soviet Bloc...
@Toonrick12

I think it might be the exotic feeling of them. Like looking into an alternate universe. Could also be possible irony of being luxury products from a place were necessaries were hard to come by at times.
He's really using a gutting knife to open boxes. 😂
So I am not the only hungarian viewer?
Please tell me y ou're gonna make a video on The Game Park, like, what even is that? Edit: "This,,,, is a real CM153." Me: DKJLAH;GSJISAL;JF"
I Awesome ! | :3
ПК100 may stand for programmable or personal computer or calculator, tried to search some information in Russian but found nothing yet apart from the fact that ПК100 was it's preproduction name and it stayed on the boot screen, though it's actually called МК90, but ПК100 is definitely an abbreviation. If you need some help with translations from russian just let me know.:)
Like me ? No I don't receive anything like this.
Personally, i find it unfathomable how someone would endure such a loud klick / harsh action. IMHO, all non-heretics use MX silent red switches. 🤣🖖🍻
I rate your channel way above Linus crap tips. Just the fact that I don't have to deal with his commercial bullshit. Everything about Linus is bought and paid for. You are basically watching a commercial. No yours is much more real and much more fun and interesting.

I agree, he sold out long, long ago. I don't watch or trust anything he or his company says. Linus is a shill, and his whole handling of the warranty thing made him look like a dick. GamersNexus and Hardware Unboxed are way better.

@@ran2wild370 i am not saying all products shown are bad. I am saying you are basically watching commercials. Shelby and people like him are really enthusiastic about what they shows. And what they show is usually off limited commercial value. Linus is a paid and bought actor, shilling hardware. And his fans just don't seem to see that. It's easy to do big projects if you are paid and sponsored. It's a business and I'm fine with that, but it's not real in any way. It's called the Linus media group (the business behind the channels) for a reason. Not the Linus tech group.
