Looks awesome! I especially like the epoxy inlay. But I got a few suggestions: - stainless screws - metal cap for the post (no water on end grain) - decorative lines should be v-grooves (less water standing on end grain) - never put wood into the ground (held above in a galvanized shoe it will last three decades at least, without that, only maybe one)

@@JSAFIXIT Depends on the ground conditions. In a dry area, where wet ground which stays wet for a while is rare, like in Arizona or New Mexico, wood can last very long, but in the Pacific northwest or New England that´s not the case. With a sandbox, which most often is a temporary structure anyway (kids tend to grow up), a reduced lifespan isn´t that much of a concern. But if a structure has to last for a while, at least I shoot for longevity. We have a carport and an awning with wooden uprights, both were build about 40yrs ago and are still standing strong, and we are not in the dryest part of Germany. Galvanized shoes on top of a small concrete pillar. More work, more expensive, but: Build well and you only build once in a lifetime.

Nice job! I hope you are open to constructive feedback…. The reason the other post rotted at the top was because of the little piece you cut off the “pyramid”. That’s now a place for rain water to sit. Also, and not really major, but for posts, save your back and power tools. Just pour the concrete in the hole dry and spray it with water. No mixing is needed.

I agree with jlovelace486, your neighbors will love to have new mailboxes and posts as well. I like using the epoxy for the numbers as well Tim. Question about the Creality Falcon. I'm guessing you have to program for the thicknesses of the material you are using to cut through the piece, do you also have to program for type of material you are using? Specifically for type of wood since oak is much denser than popular or pine for instance. The weed trimming metal at the base was a stroke of genius. Well done Tim. Cheers from this old retired coot living the dream just north of you in Tennessee.

I can’t speak for the Creality Falcon specifically but for my laser I use Lightburn software as the controller. You pretty much have free reign with the output of laser so you can set it however you’d like depending on the output capacity of your laser head and the materials you use. Most people just wing it and do a lot of testing on scrap material to get the right settings. There are test patterns that will run through almost every setting in one space so you get an idea of what each setting looks like in that specific material. Also there are “libraries” that certain creators share that have materials listed and setting that can be applied. That’s a real time saver.
