It is against the law to tamper with the mail, so this person should be facing jail time.

Technically no. The mail has to be delivered to a mail box first. Once delivered it's a federal crime to tamper/steal it. But since it wasn't actually delivered it's not against the law to tamper with it. It's all in the wording of the law. I guess they expected mail carriers to actually do their jobs. So their part was sort of ignored there.

That woman should have been arrested and prosecuted, it's a federal offence taking other people's mail!!!!

I get "other peoples mail" in my box quite often. How many times has MY mail been delivered to the wrong box ? Our carrier is usually talking on his/her cell phone and I can hear them coming two - three houses away. I suspect that not having their mind on what they're doing might be a factor in the wrong box deliveries.

I HAVE gotten late charges on bills that were mailed in plenty of time for them to get to their destination. Those late payments go against your credit score.

I mail my mortgage payments. Even when mail on schedule still causes late charges Postal Service snail pace SLOW....

I'm so glad my postal carriers do their jobs. I get every piece of junk mail !

Because she has to be prosecuted first- this is not Russia . The mail carrier will get her day in Federal court then if found guilty can serve up to 5 years in a Federal prison

Name of fired should be outed. Why are they protecting her? She's a criminal. Shouldn't the next employer be alerted?

That's a federal offense, so it needs to be prison time.

Exactly... Managers and postmasters should also be held accountable when this happens at their locations because the corruption starts at the top.

I've never heard of this happening in Australia, maybe it has and I'll be looking into it today. _Losing_ mail is one thing, but deliberately dumping it is horrendous. As for that woman laughing it off as a triviality...words fail me... .

Recently, I saw our mail carrier park in his/her usual spot down the street and thought we'd be getting our mail shortly. After about 20 minutes the truck left and our block got NO MAIL that day. It isn't surprising that the USPS is always needing more $$$ from the tax payers. They seem to be quite inefficient in the way they do some things.

@@coletrick8748 If they don't have mail for me but I have a letter for pick-up, they just walk on by. Maybe they'll pick it up tomorrow. Or they're too lazy to close the mail box door even though I put a sign on it to remind them. Leaving the door open when there is sensitive mail in the box is sloppy workmanship, especially during windy or wet weather. Or they pick up a letter and I find it blowing around the yard three days later. Or the time when it took NINE days to get a letter delivered across town. Or finding mail in my box that belongs to the neighbor, sometimes the address is on another street that isn't even in this neighborhood. They survive only because they have a monopoly (no competition) There's more but I'll leave it at that. You must be a postal worker !

I have opposite problem. Postal Carrier delivered Mail, yet left mailbox lid OPEN! I've put notice upon mailbox Please CLOSE LID. Yet still left open causing my mail get soaked during Rain storms.
