People say she lost the meaning of the song, I'll argue that she just made it her own... the original song is like, if you're sad you can lean on me. Sohyang's version is like, lean on me and I'll give you hope. Same message, but different tones and both the original and this one are beautiful :)

소향님의 특기는 절대 우울하고 침울하지 않게 한다는데에 있다. 초반엔 아름다운 세상을 그리다가 후반부로 갈수록 견디어 일어서는 모습을 보인다. 난 그래서 좋다. 감성적으로 승부하는 국내 가수 널리고 널렸다. 그저 가라앉게만 하지 않고 일어서게 만드는 소향님만의 위로법이 있다. 세상 누구에게나 힘을 내어 일어서게 만드는 편곡을 한다.

For those who only watched this clip; go actually watch the full episode of the performance's review by other singers. Hyorin says that the special they were doing really gave her goosebumps. Plus So Hyang was the last performer and totally swept the trophy. (Yes spoiled it) The other singers even admit that they were not on her level of vocal range.

browneyedS ofc there will be lower and higher level, if not, everybody is in the same level? Even in your original post, you said Lena is the exception and that she can compete with SoHyang. So basically you are making a comparison too. Why are you acting all innocent now? For people at the same level like MC and Whitney Houston, ok, they cannot be compared because both have their own styles. There cannot be an anonymous agreement on whoever is better. But Lena vs SoHyang, seriously her performance here alone could put Lena in the shadow. I love both anyway, I listen to Lena long long time ago, not a typical kpop lover and I am trained as a vocalist too. If you don't agree, if you think Lena is better than SoHyang, it's your own opinion, don't need to be so worked up. I respect whatever your choice is.

Wow, so much hate and critics on this video as of lately. What?, many of you mad that she beat your so called amazing singing idols? SoHyang is an outstanding singer. She has been singing far more than any of the other singers there. She has a naturally beautiful voice that has had a lot of practice to get where she is. She has so much control of her voice it's truly amazing. And a lot of you guys are saying there's no emotion behind it, trust me, there is, but she made this song very upbeat and beautiful. Go watch her sing, Gooses dream, or the fate and tell me there's no emotion behind her voice. So many of you act like you guys are professional music critics saying she was couple beats ahead or Weird arrangements, guess what, you guys aren't. Michael Bolton truly was impressed and inspired by her. She truly is an outstanding singer. She's a mix of Whitney and Mariah with a hint of Celine.

I wholeheartedly agree! SoHyang destroys almost every "power vocalist" out there right now. It seems that k-pop has ruined an entire generation who can't tell the difference between resonant mixed-voice belts and "shouting". They also can't discern any artistic rearrangements for effect because unless someone sings a "karaoke" copy of the original song it lacks "emotion" in their minds. In my opinion however I believe that SoHyang sounds like a mix between a young Mariah and Patti LaBelle (those amazing belts)! She has the purest tone I have ever heard.

Yes! The amazing thing about SoHyang is that when she sings a cover, she absolutely makes it her own. So many times she has elevated the songs to something far beyond what they used to be. I believe "Fate" is her most successful cover...she poured all her soul into that performance and the passion and heartache is breath-taking. There is no one quite like her.

불명이 공연 중간중간 텀이 꽤 길더라구요. 세션 교체하고 준비하느라.. 그래서....박정현님 이후로? 박재범님 나올때랑 소향님 마지막 나올때 관객들은 많이들 지쳐있었고, 다들 화장실 들락거리고 있었어요. 확실히 후반부로 갈수록 산만해짐.. 신동엽씨가 그래도 박수 많이 처달라고 말하고 공연시작할 정도로 사람들 지쳐있는게 눈에 보였는데, 정작 공연시작하니까 사람들 완전 몰입해서 보더라구요.ㅋㅋ 공연 후엔 기립박수랑 환호가 진짜 많이 터져나왔어요... 환호가 너무 오래되서 무대 밑으로 바로 내려가지도 못했을 정도로 환호가 계속 됐었고... 녹화 끝나고 나오면서도 사람들 다들 소향이 우승하겠다고 수근수근.. 진짜 경악할 수준이었음.. 영상으로 봐도 놀랍지만, 그 날 현장에선 진짜 충격적으로 좋았음...ㅠㅠ

소향은 어나더 클라스 쌉인정인데 박정현보다는 손승연이 더 먹힘. 박정현은 특유의 감성이 이국적이라 한국에서 개성으로 먹히는건데 해외에서 발성적으로 '평범'이라고 얘기함.

Actually the Kpop industry houses some pretty great vocalists like Sohyang, Park Ki young, Son Seungyeon, Lee Hyuk and a lot more. And I mean ACTUAL vocalists. usually in the mainstream scene there is the main vocals in the group which are also good, like kim taeyeon of girls generation, Hyorin from Sistar,Luna from f(x) ... for example. And solo mainstream pop artists like Ailee. The Kpop industry can challenge the American industry in terms of Vocals. TBH The people Lola mentioned are ok vocalists lmaoo.

I am a huge Gospel music fan, has nothing to do with Gospel music style, the arrangement is what people are referring to. The arrangement of the song took heaps and bound away from the meaning of the song, the statement is completely accurate. However, there is give and take, the give being the entertainment of the performance of this arrangement and the vocal showcase. But yes, it is basically a different song at this point and the meaning is lost

소향님의 발음, 엄청난 음역대 그리고 다양한 장르에 잘 묻어나는 목소리 거기다 발성까지.. 엄청나게 뛰어난 가수이신 점은 분명하고 저도 공감합니다 ㅎㅎ. 다만 이번 영상의 lean on me 라는 곡의 원곡은 장르가 '팝'이 아닌 '소울'이고 편곡버전의 장르 또한 '팝'과는 거리가 멀어보입니다. '팝'이란 흔히 대중들에겐 그저 '영어권 음악 중 대중가요' 라고 많이들 알려져있는데, 사실은 '팝'이란 '대중음악'의 가장 기본이 되는 '장르'로써 중독적인 멜로디, 후렴, 메인스트림 스타일을 특징으로 하는 하나의 장르입니다. 즉, 우리나라의 대중가요 중에서도 팝, 발라드, 락, 하우스, 힙합 등 다양한 장르가 분포되어 있고 영어권이나 다른 외국에서도 똑같이 적용된다는 말입니다. ㅎㅎ 그래서 하고싶은 말은 모든 영어권 대중가요를 팝이라고 부르는 것은 잘못된 표현이다~ 라는 것 입니다.ㅎㅎ 정리하자면 팝 ≠ 영어권 대중음악 팝⊂대중음악 팝, 힙합, 락 등의 장르 ⊂ 대중음악 인 것이 됩니다. 이상 지나가던 설명충 진지충 불편충 스피드웨건이였습니다. 불편하셨다면 죄송합니다..ㅎ ( 꾸벅 )

볼튼이 와우할때소름이고 가창력은 그냥넘사벽이고 다같이즐기는분위기 코러스는그냥소향하고친구처럼즐기는분위기 볼튼기립박수는덤 진짜 다시몇번을봐도 정말 감격그자체다 소름에소름에 소름을더한다 정말 아릅답다 4월30일콘서트갈꺼다 쩐다

열창 후 웃는 모습 보기 좋아요.

국가 제한 진즉 일찍 풀렸으면 한국인들 SNS에 계속 퍼가면서 조회수 훨씬 높았을텐데

인터뷰에서 자기가 제일 목숨걸고 부른 곡이라고 했는데 ㄹㅇ 맞는듯 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ편곡 스케일부터가 이미 낫코리안에 도입부에서부터 포지션 겁나 높게잡아서 이미 에지간한 곡 하이라이트 음역대에 도달해버렸고..거기서 또 전조를 2번을 해버리고..중간중간 고음에 스케일에 그냥 본인이 가지고 있는 음역, 기교, 가스펠감성, tessitura, 리듬감, 다양한 음색, 발성, 피치, 음감 모든 능력치를 쏟아부은 무대임ㅠㅠ

코러스분들 찐으로 즐거워보이심 나같아도 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ저런 대단한 사람이랑 합맞추는 자체가 너무 즐겁고 신날듯

소향의 무대 중에 레전드 아닌 것이 있겠냐마는 "Lean on me"는 화려함이 폭발한 노래였던 것 같다. 귀와 마음이 함께 쉬고 싶을 때, 소향의 노래를 찾아듣게 되는데, 삭제된 영상이 너무 많아서 아쉬울 따름

그러게여.몇년전 영상인데 가수는 물론이고 방송국 무대 제작 퀄리티 나무랄게 없어여, 예전 그때는 그리 대단한 무대가 아니다고 생각햇는데 (( 저높은 세계무대에 비하면 아무것도 아닐듯)) 그런데 지금 국뽕도 생기고 해외반응도 보니 그 때 얼마나 우리 자존감을 떨궛는지, 생각이 잘못되었는지 생각이 들더라고요

저도 이 편 풀로 봤었는데 못하는 사람 한명도 없었고 한명 한명 다 보석 같은 사람들이었어요ㄹㅇ 충격 받아서 아직도 기억함 ㅠㅠ 그리고 이 시즌?때 불후의 명곡이 약간 아이돌들도 잘 안나오고 찐 가수들 많이 나올때라 되게 퀄리티가 높아서 매주 주말마다 힐링했던 기억이 ㅠㅠ

힘을내세요! 내게안겨요! 라는 의미를 가진 곡이였는데 RNB와블랙가스펠이 결합된 편곡+소향 그리고 연주할 때 엄격한 템포와 리듬에 미묘한 변화를 일으켜 색채감을 풍부하게 하는 편곡과 아파시오나토(분산화음) 은 정말 완벽했다. 도입부 어택부분부터 아첼란도 부분 전 까지의 블랙소울한 맛 은 일품었고. 특히 ple~~e~e~e ase 이 부분은 너무나도 청아한 음색 정의하자면 델리카토부분. 마치 천사의소리처럼 들려왔다. 특히 이번 곡의 그루비함은 굉장히 도드라졌다. 1:33부분부터 곡 끝까지 박자하나하나 흩으러짐없이 물흐르듯 타는 소향의 그루비함은 월드클래스였다. 가장 인상깊었던 2:40초의 Lean on me 의 꾸밈음(아그레망) 꾸밈음 한 소절로 이런 오묘함을 준다는 것. 경이로웠다. 또 4옥하이톤 에서부터 보컬브릿지 없이 다시 2옥 라까지 내려가는데 정말 소름이 돋았다. 파사지오구간을 돌파한정도가 아니라 그냥 두,비,흉성의 기류를 정복한 것 같았고 의상과 비팅타임모션 역시 역동적이고 아름다웠다. 마지막 hook에선 지치고 고된삶에 힘을내라고 등을 탁! 쳐주는 기분이들었다. 정말 완벽한 편곡과 가창이였다.

진짜요 사실.. 진짜 소향님이 최고이시긴한데.. 저 혼자.. 생각에 소향님고음이 방송에서들으면 좀 얇고좀..째지는느낌이들는데..화내지마시구요.. 사실 좀 듣기 불편합니다. 너무 인간의영역에넘치게 높아서 그런가요.. 근데 실제로 들으면 진짜 고음이 느낌이 다른가요? 째지는소리가아니고요? 방송에서 다 못담나봐요? 콘서트같은거하면 꼭 가봐야겠네요

Her throat likely doesn’t hurt cuz she supports her high notes, so she doesn’t use her throat to reach them

pyupanda she has a good support so most likely shes not using her throat too much she mixes well because of her support and her fking resonance is insane vocal god hha

미쳤다.....절대 이건 누구도 이렇게 못 부를 듯. 소오름...

솔직하게 나는 소향은 나는 가수다에서는 고음으로 만 승부를 보는 음악 기계로 느꼈다.... 나는 가수다에서 부른곡들 거의 회자 되지 않는다. 그 뒤 소향은 완벽하게 달라졌다. 음악에 감정을 완벽하게 실어서 불렀다. 천상의 목소리처럼 변했다. 요즘 모든곡들이 서사가 있게 들린다. 곡마다 판타지 영화를 한편식 보는 것 같다.. 건강 했으면 좋겠다. 소향님 언제나 힘내시고 오래 우리들 곁에 있으세요

몇번이고 보는데 코러스 분들이 저렇게 즐거워하는건 잘못봤네요.코러스 하시는데 메인가수가 노래를 저렇게 해버리면 얼마나 기분 좋을까요?ㅎㅎ 이건뭐...베스트 오브 더 베스트라고 말할수 있을듯요!!

진짜 나만 가수네 장난없다 ㄹㅇ

여태껏 이런 고품격 고퀄리티 공연을 하는 한국 가수는 본 적이 없습니다! 오죽하면 가왕 박정현이 마치 졌다는 뉘앙스로 두손 다 위로 들고 손사래를 치네요. 노래실력, 발음, 가스펠 편곡, 퍼포먼스, 모든면에서 다 압도하는 무대입니다.

미쳤다 노래에 대한 이해력 최강이다.

볼때마다 느끼는거 ᆢ 스테미나 오지다 말하는직업이라 잘아는데 노래는 더 큰에너지가 있어야되는데 저 극악난이도 노래를 지치지도 않고 계속 텐션유지를한다는거 ᆢ진짜 놀랍다

Seriously, she has the most stunning voice ever!!!

전 이 무대에 양쪽 코러스를 보기위해 종종 들러요. 코러스가 이렇게 즐기는 무대를 본 적이 없습니다.

What amazes me most of this performance was the lack of strain, ease and the clarity of those high notes. She has never dodged difficult notes and in fact she is perhaps the most consistent power vocalist I have ever heard. SoHyang is easily one of the greats!

She belted several Bb5s in there, which is a record among her singing competitions (like she's never done so many before in 1 perf). I'd say she might have pushed and dared herself to do it, executed it with perfection, and got the result she wanted. We can only see her improving more after this XD

And that's the amazing thing...although she had been singing for years she has been constantly improving and it's like every year she sounds better and better.

Walter Lucas Actually she can belt up to sustained C6. She did that in her performance 'Dream' in KBS open concert and 'Lean on me' with Kirk Franklin. You might find it on youtube.

Walter Lucas Those were not C#6 but B5s, and a little flat so I didn't catch them XD. She can do C6s live but they are quite seldom.

Honestly, It felt like This was So Hyang's own concert and Michael was the special guest. And the other singers were the opening act xD
