At some point in her memoirs Alma describes Gustav as being "pure oxygen" and that touching him caused one to be burn.

Elle est bonne mais she has a voice for Queen of the Night and not for Urlicht. Urlicht is supposed to be Himmel-like, like an angel. She's a great singer but this is not her best fit. With all due respect.

@@AlexToussiehChannel I think I get what you mean because her voice has a purity and clarity that is usually associated with sopranos, but as the others have said, she is a true contralto -- complete opposite end of the vocal range. Queen of the Night is only for the highest and fastest of high sopranos... a totally different sound-world.

It was that I couldn't listen to Mahler because I would get a pang in the pit of my stomach. But the depression that it triggered went away when listening to Nathalie Stutzmann. Only the Beauty was there.

That swoop she does up to the next-to-the-last note, a high E (from "Selig" to "leben" at the end is weird and isn't in the score. I suppose it's hard to get there without swooping.
