I loved the book and I’m so excited for this! I love that Lesley Manville is in this - she narrated the audiobook for the sequel!

WOW! Can not wait to see this!! It looks wonderful, suspenseful and comedic all rolled into one, and with these shows, the countryside is gorgeously filmed! I'm so excited!!!
Love this! Once again Masterpiece hits it out of the park! Watching right now! ♥️
This is fabulous!
Sounds like a British drama in the mold of "Murder She Wrote", an American series. Looking forward to watching.
Haven't seen it yet?, I'll be watching from Los Angeles on PBS🤪❤👍
I wish they would go back to period pieces. It would be great for them to do replays of former masterpieces from the 70s and eighties
Looking forward
I checked out the book from the library in anticipation of this new series. Love Masterpiece!

Can someone please tell me why Brits always get the whodunnit genre correct in everyway? I have not seen any good American whodunnits in my life!

You've never seen or read any James Ellroy or Raymond Chandler? Walter Mosley? Tony Hillerman? What is Gone Girl if not a whodunnit? American lean in more to crime drama and police procedurals it is true. But remember Poe got the whole mystery genre rolling with The Murders in the Rue Morgue. And Patricia Highsmith was famous for more what you would call a whydunnit. The Talented Mr Ripley is a great book even knowing who the killer is. Much as I love Agatha Christie, she had about six plots. And Elizabeth George is American even though her books are set in England.

I honestly think a lot about this. One thing I've come up with is the British character being more emotionally restrained (speaking generally, of course) means plots tend to be the star. Even with strong and well-developed characters, they seem less likely to get in the way of a plot. British restraint can also lead to secrets and unspoken thoughts, which can be an enhancement. Also, there aren't so many guns, which leads to more creative ways to kill people. In U.S. mystery novels, though there are absolutely many writers I like, there is often more of a willingness to put children in peril (which I most often find to be a pretty cheap and easy way to raise the stakes) and also the detective's relationships sometimes move into the fore more than I personally am interested in. Let me emphasize these are very broad strokes based on reading 100s of mysteries over the years and *of course* there are exceptions--it feels like the more contemporary writers tend to blur the lines more. I would encourage you to explore American writers more--there are some really excellent writers here, even for people who prefer British ones.
The red car is interesting. What kind is it? Yet none of the cars in the 1950s are red!
The book this is based off was so good!
Love this, despite the usual BBC need to insert brown faces where there wouldn't have been any. Nothing wrong with the actors - just distracting and very patronising, surely. The actor playing Pund is brilliant - known his face for years. Love the tone of voice he adopts - reminds me of Peter Lorre but not quite so weird. Lends a marvellous old-time sophistication to the atmos. Just love it.
1955? Where did all those black people come from. Black washing history?

@@nickmazonowicz511 Yes, I watched the first episode. Do I have to watch the whole thing to see that there is vastly more "representation" of black people than were in the general population at the time? Oh, wow. Google is now making it very difficult to look up the 1961 UK Census. I did look it up quite easily only a few months ago. I wonder why that is. I had to come all the way up to 1991 to get an answer on racial demographics. With 36 years of mass immigration after this program is set, 94.65% of the population remained white.

It was hammy, clichéd and dull with some questionable casting and acting throughout. One to miss.
