Magic of the Morgan 4/4 | INSIDE evo
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
evo's features editor Henry Catchpole is a big fan of British sports cars, especially those that require some commitment (and a sprinkle of madness) to use in bad weather. Here he talks us through the magic of the Morgan 4/4 he ran for the magazine.

The sound of the exhaust is intoxicating. Now that's the way a 4-banger should sound! It reminds me of the 4-cylinders from the 1950's and early '60's. When I heard the sound of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta they used in the movie "Day of the Jackal", I thought the same thing. Great stuff.
Henry, please continue Harry's EVO Diaries. If someone can do it, that's you.
Good to see Henry again, one of the good guys, and a ok episode too.
Ours is the 1.8 Ford Duratec that my wife and I have had for 6 years. During that period we have travelled 24000 miles in the UK and abroad. Terrific fun, very reliable and great for touring but you do have to be very disciplined as far as luggage is concerned!
The GTR guy probably wanted to see the Morgan's rear :). Really good video !
I actualy love Henry, more of him!
Every car, little, large, slow, fast deserves a bit a love. The people whom build then are proud they do so!! Great video, I hope you enjoyed the little car. :=)
Henry! What a wonderful piece!!!!!!!!!! There is no chance on earth that you'd ever remember me (we can blame that on multiple pints at Uni), but as I enter the Morgan market what happens - I see you!!! As i enter my 5th year living 'State side' and being seduced by the Shelby GT500 and Challenger Hemi, i still know that the Classic Morgan is 99.9% likely to be my next car. Phew.

Love the Car and the wolverine beard Henry! I can't imagine driving that in the snow though haha.
Great report Henry. I've got little interest in Morgans, but enjoyed that.
Catchpole should be the designated Diaries presenter with Metcalfe's departure.
Had brain fade and spent a bit looking for part 1/4 of this vid.
Styling from the 40's but with modern tech. Best of both worlds!!
Could please, please do an inside evo on the zonda cinque that you drove a couple of years ago. That would be awesome.
Changed the tires for Avon ,made a huge change on the track ,great car
Living the life. Well done. Great video review for a long termer too.
Not to surprised the pug was quicker I had one with a Mi16 lump in a few years back, rapid car! I was to wondering if we would ever find out what you were doing on fifth gear? I also saw you at goodwood when I went up the hill in the mclaren P1 with Chris Goodwin,(I've been meaning to email evo about it as a 1st issue subscriber) you were in the sprint? and wondering the corridors of the hilton looking completely lost lol
One of my dream cars. Odd for a Yank, considering everyone across the pond wants a '71 Chevelle with with a big-block.
I love Morgan!
My dream car.
Great video but I think the GTR was on a cool down lap hehe! I always enjoy your videos
Love the sub-7 comment at the end :)
to drive that Morgan looks really like an adventure, could be in an Indiana Jones Movie =D
I think John Bolster ran a Morgan as a long term car a long time ago, (but it might have been his own car!).
Yes, I saw you on Fifth gear. Wondering if we would ever know what you where doing there. So thanks for this video. (But until the bearded man spoke I didn't know you where beaten by VBH)
just a wee bit of wind buffeting there, nothing to worry about
Regarding the Morgan Plus 4 it is a pity other engines were not considered during the 16 year gap between the Standard-Triumph 4-cylinder and Fiat/Rover powered models, would have been interesting seeing a Morgan Plus 4 powered by 2.0-2.2 Rover P6 OHC (plus shelved 2.2 Rover DOHC prototype unit) or Triumph Slant-4 engines during the 16 year gap between 1969-1985. A Rover P6 engined version would have especially complimented the more powerful Rover V8 engined Morgan Plus 8.
One of few companies that is still 100% British owned, along with Mclaren
An interesting piece - although young Mr Catchpole certainly is NOT the first journalist to run a Morgan as his long term car, as the greatest motoring journalist ever, Mr William ('Bill') Boddy, had one for years in the 1950's as editor of Motor Sport magazine.
I think it's high time you were moved up the ladder to Editor In Chief, Henry. I really do. For me, Trott presents himself as aloof and pretentious and has a writing / presenting style that is as dreary as yours is enthusiastic.
Is the beard because you're all in for Movember?
I remember sitting in my uncles morgan back in the 94 next to a huge truck thinking "if that thing hit us we would just be a damp patch on the road"

The things I think every day in my Miata. My usual quip is along the lines of: "If I get hit by a truck, they'll have to pull out the dental records to identify me." Needless to say, my mom doesn't like it much.

robert nichols He also had a roadster.
And I see you even took it to Newport Pagnell dump.
Morgan wins over a Peugeot any day of the week. Doesn't matter really if the Pug/Vicky put down a better lap time when the Morgan would deliver so much more fun and involvement.

+stewitr It is not a sports car and that matters, therefore a sports car wins over a Morgan any day of the week. Peugeot RCZ wins over a Morgan any day of the week because it is more fun to drive if you love sports cars. ;)
I love how he only posted this video to explain why he was beaten by a girl.
Oxymoron: Example - "Mr Henry Catchpole who went to a state school."
I understand about 20% of what you are saying
When overtaking the GTR i heard you accelerate twice which means the GTR was not on it ! But just saying i could be wrong
@HENRY u look much better in beard .
So nice a car, but apparently overpriced which, on the plus side (pun intended), makes it even more rare. :)
want
My goodness and i thought musical instrument demos were boring!?
You would not want to roll this car.

JakeSnake07 Most convertibles have some sort of roll over protection and wouldn't shatter like a sheet of glass in a crash

It's got an ash frame though, which would absorb the impact quite well.
Why can't they just sell Morgans here!!!
@plymko900

where are you? if you mean the US they do, morgan have 14 dealers in america
That's not a safe car in case you roll it :|
this guy mumbles too much and when he is not mumbling it sounds like he trying to not disturb someone sleeping.... HOY SPEAK LAD
GTR owner shamed for life lol
excuses, excuses, excuses...blah, blah, blah
Very boring.
